Farewell (Part 4)
Zhou Zeyu put her hands on her hips, took a deep breath with all her might, and resisted the urge to punch him. Suddenly, she didn't know how to express her feelings. After thinking for a long time, she burst out laughing in exasperation.
"Are you sick, Sorkov?"
Zhou Zeyi also remembered this matter, but after thinking about it, he still felt that his injury was more important, so he unconsciously lowered his tone, "Alright, I won't say anything more to you. You should go find a doctor to apply medicine as soon as possible."
"You help me with that."
“Me?” Zhou Zeyu sneered and said without any mercy, “Back then, he was known as Breaking Bad. Think carefully before you speak.”
This wasn't just her bragging. Back then, Fang Xiaocan had a big cut on her thigh and needed to have her dressing changed every day. This coward didn't dare to do it herself, so Zhou Zeyi had to do it for her. She would swiftly pour the medicine onto her thigh, causing Fang Xiaocan to scream in pain every night. Over time, the title "Deadly Poisoner" spread.
So naturally, no one dared to ask her to change the dressing after that.
Zhou Zeyu suddenly remembered what happened back then, and it seemed as if Fang Xiaocan's pig-like screams were echoing in his ears again. The sound was like fingernails scraping on a blackboard. No matter how much time had passed, he still felt his scalp tingle when he thought about it.
She glanced at Sorkov, seemingly unable to imagine him screaming in agony as well. She couldn't help but fantasize about it for a moment, and immediately felt goosebumps rise all over her arm. She quickly shook her head, afraid to continue thinking about it.
What are you thinking about?
"It's nothing," Zhou Zeyu replied quickly, then glanced at him again, "Hey, don't waste your time here, go get treated if you're sick!"
Both of them are athletes, so they should be sensitive to injuries. If it were Zhou Zeyu who injured her shoulder today, she would probably have screamed and rushed to the doctor for an X-ray. Instead, this guy is just standing here motionless as if nothing happened.
Could this be a difference between East and West? She pondered for a while and thought it was unlikely. For example, Radetz seemed to care a lot about this. She had read in the news that he had a dedicated health care team.
If she had had such a team, perhaps the surgery wouldn't have been delayed for so long, and her injuries wouldn't have gotten worse. Maybe there would still be a chance for things to turn around, and things wouldn't have turned out like this today.
Well, everyone's fate is different.
Her change in expression was immediately apparent to Sorkov, who guessed what she was thinking almost instantly and suddenly reached out and pinched her face hard.
"Don't overthink it. You should also get your right knee checked again."
"How did you know?" Zhou Zeyu couldn't help but be a little surprised.
"Hard to ignore." He succinctly uttered these words and walked out without a word, but after taking a few steps, he turned back to look at her. "Aren't you coming with me?"
"Never mind, I need to go back and find Anna and Eric. You go find the doctor first."
"Looking for a doctor?" Sorkov seemed to be laughing, but Zhou Zeyu probably thought he was mistaken; there was nothing funny about it. "I'm going to the police station."
The moment the words "police station" appeared, Zhou Zeyi felt as if he had been struck in the head again. Confused, he said, "Wasn't it resolved? Why do I still need to go to the hospital?"
Sorkov let out a meaningless laugh, then suddenly seemed somewhat dismissive.
"Solved? Solved what?"
"Weren't you just giving a statement at the police station?" Zhou Zeyu heard himself say dryly.
"No, although I didn't cause him to fall into the river or get hit by the car, I did hit him."
Zhou Zeyi was silent for a moment, then asked, "And then?"
As if she had suddenly guessed what he was going to say next, she suddenly felt a little flustered and nervous, and frowned as she looked him up and down in disbelief.
"You're not going to tell me you're going to be detained, are you...?"
She was stunned and wanted to reach out and wipe the smile off his face, but Sorkov did keep smiling, and even seemed happier because of her words.
"So what? You're not going to feel so guilty that you can't sleep at night, are you?"
Zhou Zeyu slapped her forehead, feeling as if she could clearly hear a clump of mush swirling in her head. She almost lost her balance, but thankfully, Sorkov caught her quickly, preventing her from stumbling and falling onto the trash can again.
Seeing that she was about to faint, Solkov felt he couldn't tease her any longer, otherwise Zhou Zeyu would be the one who would actually get sick, so he honestly confessed.
"Okay, don't be so nervous, I was just kidding."
Wait, wasn't he already off the national team?
Zhou Zeyu thought for a moment and felt that he should remember correctly what the reason he was expelled was.
Oh, he kicked the coach.
Having figured this out, her anger suddenly and inexplicably subsided. Instead, she looked him up and down with a very sympathetic gaze, patted his healthy shoulder, and sighed.
"It's not your fault, you've had it tough too."
Although Sorkov already knew about her unpredictable temper, he was still a little confused by the current situation. Fortunately, Zhou Zeyu no longer seemed as frightened as before.
It's really not surprising that Zhou Zeyu was making a fuss. In this respect, Zhou Zeyu and Sorkov really couldn't empathize, after all, the situation in Belgrade and Beijing is quite different.
Zhou Zeyi couldn't have imagined that he would dare to kick his head coach into the pool. If it were her, it probably wouldn't be as simple as just being expelled. She would probably be completely banned from the entire table tennis world and never be allowed to touch a racket again.
It's a bit of an exaggeration, but it doesn't seem that exaggerated either.
The same applies to this incident. If this had happened in Beijing, Zhou Zeyu would probably have been taken to the police station once and then happily said goodbye to his career. No matter what stains or misdeeds he had, he would have been blacklisted and probably even made the news.
However, this is in Belgrade, so the situation might be different...
Who knows?
Zhou Zeyu shook his head, even feeling a little fortunate that this guy was born in Belgrade, otherwise, with his crazy temper, who knows what kind of trouble he might have gotten into.
"Anyway, thank you for helping me get the box back." She bowed her head and thanked him earnestly.
"So polite? This isn't like you."
“What else?” Zhou Zeyu raised her head again, glaring at him with annoyance. “Then I’ll just accept it as a matter of course and say that this is what you should do?”
This person must be crazy.
Zhou Zeyi studied him for a while, and finally earnestly instructed him: "If it really doesn't work, next time I go to see Mr. Elberlint for a medical consultation, you can come with me. Anyway, you are his son, so you shouldn't have to pay any consultation fees."
Sorkov's expression seemed to subtly change, but the next second he became expressionless again, reached out and pinched her other cheek hard, making it barely symmetrical.
"You're the one who's sick, you idiot."
Zhou Zeyu was too lazy to argue with him, but since her suitcase was the culprit, she couldn't just sit idly by. After thinking it over, she called Anna and the others, saying that she was going to the police station with Sorkov to resolve the matter, and would go home to continue barbecuing after that.
Am I more important to you than barbecue?
She resisted the urge to roll her eyes, but her face was anything but pleasant as she stared at him for a long time, her eyes bulging with anger.
He won't get treatment even when asked, and he won't take his medicine properly. He's become increasingly glib and doesn't seem to know what to do all day. He claims to be a promising young athlete, but he looks like an unemployed bum who does nothing.
She suddenly felt a bit disappointed in him. She was forced to semi-retire and had no choice but to leave the competition. But what was wrong with him? He was so young, how could he be so unambitious? He left the team voluntarily and ignored his injuries, completely wasting his talent.
So when Sorkov turned to look at her, he met a pair of very emotional eyes, with an inexplicable and loving look.
Being stared at like that without knowing what the other person was going to do was undoubtedly terrifying. Confused, Sorkov pushed her gaze away and subtly moved behind him.
"You...don't have any thoughts?"
What ideas do I need?
Zhou Zeyu clicked his tongue, "Stupid! Go back to the national team, participate in competitions, win a world championship or something. You're so young, why are you giving up on yourself like this?"
Sorkov didn't answer her question directly. Instead, he mimicked her earlier posture, crossing his arms and looking at her with a leisurely air: "So young? Judging from your condescending tone, it's as if you're much older than me."
Zhou Zeyu was stunned. She had never really thought about this question. If you really want to be serious, she was probably only two or three years older than him. But perhaps because she had experienced too much, she subconsciously felt that she was already an old man who had seen it all.
"Don't be silly, you're only in your early twenties."
Yes. She suddenly realized, belatedly, that she was only in her early twenties. For most people, that would be the prime of their lives, and she was no exception.
While others' careers are just beginning, hers are already completely over.
But she is only so young, not even thirty yet. She so recklessly enjoys the privileges and conveniences that youth brings, yet she also despises the regrets caused by being too old. Isn't that a contradiction?
In a daze, Zhou Zeyu seemed to understand the unspoken meaning in Solkov's words. He always spoke in that way, vague and unwilling to explain clearly. Sometimes, whether she understood him or not depended on luck.
But it seems that she has always been lucky when she is with Solkov. At least she has come to understand some things, which are exactly what Solkov wanted to tell her.
