"Gold bars?! Where did you get them? We'll split them in half when we meet."
Qu Lixin never expected to encounter such a good thing. Ouyang Weidong also realized at this moment that this person did not know that he was wanted by the police.
"You don't recognize me?"
Should I get to know you? Is it alright to get to know you now?
Ouyang Weidong was somewhat frustrated; he had just given it away for nothing.
Qu Lixin heard Ouyang Weidong's stomach suddenly rumble and pulled out a flattened, cold vegetable pancake from his clothes.
"Here, have some, but make this clear beforehand: you need to give me extra gold bars. Don't rush me! This is my hand, this is my hand!"
After the chaos, Qu Lixin listened to Ouyang Weidong's tearful account, his expression complicated. "This contestant has had quite a lot going on these past two days."
Compared to the other party, Qu Lixin felt like he was just a supporting character in a supporting role.
"So what are you going to do now? You can't use your identity information, you have no money, and I feel like the gold bars wouldn't amount to much money anyway. As they say in novels, these things are hot potatoes in this day and age."
Ouyang Weidong looked dejected. "I don't know what to do either. If I still can't figure it out in a few days, I'll have to withdraw from the competition."
Qu Lixin looked at Ouyang Weidong's identity certificate, a thin piece of paper with writing and a stamp, and a flash of inspiration struck him, "I thought of a place where you might be able to update your identity."
"Where? How do I update it?"
Qu Lixin said enthusiastically, "Look, there's no photo on your ID card. Taking photos wasn't common back then. Maybe you can buy a new ID card on the black market."
After he finished speaking, he looked at the gold bars in Ouyang Weidong's hand. Ouyang Weidong understood and became somewhat excited.
"When are we going?"
Qu Lixin thought for a moment, "Tomorrow, I'll go to the black market to ask for you after my exam, but, hehe, you know what I mean."
Ouyang Weidong handed all the "hot potatoes" in his hands to Qu Lixin, saying, "I'll give you all of these, as long as you can give me a normal identity."
Qu Lixin never expected Ouyang Weidong to be so easily fooled. The two girls he met yesterday weren't so gullible! It's truly touching that he managed to run into such a fat sheep.
However, in the end, since Ouyang Weidong had given him all his belongings, Qu Lixin felt a little embarrassed, so he added, "I'll take it first. After it's all done, I'll give you back whatever's left, including my share."
Ouyang Weidong's eyes welled up with tears. "You're such a good person!"
Qu Lixin felt a pang of conscience. "What kind of identity do you want? Maybe you have a choice."
"I want to be a farmer!! The city is too dangerous!!"
Qu Lixin was speechless. Everyone else was rushing to the city, but this kid wanted to run to the village. It seemed that he had left a deep impression on Ouyang Weidong these past two days.
That's why people say there are too many tricks in the city; the countryside is much better.
Oh dear, these two have actually gotten together.
Can I change my identity? Isn't that against the rules?
[I don't know. This show even has a black market, so it probably has a lot of freedom. Maybe I can switch it.]
If this can be swapped, wouldn't other participants' identification cards be easily found and used by others?
[I have an even bolder idea: why not just steal the identity information of other people we want?]
It seemed okay at the beginning, but now that everyone knows the NPCs around them, it probably won't work anymore.
[Looks like identification is really important. Thinking about it that way, the guy who hid it in his crotch isn't entirely innocent.]
The moonlight was alluring, but the sun rose as usual, and a new day began.
Many registered participants and NPCs headed to various factories for a two-hour exam.
Xie Chunmei and Wang Cuihua also arrived at the food factory with their city entry permits.
"Line up, show your identification, one by one. Anyone who causes trouble will be disqualified from the exam!"
The factory's recruitment manager shouted through a loudspeaker at the entrance.
When it was Xie Chunmei and Wang Cuihua's turn, their identity information was checked, and after they signed to confirm that the information was correct, they went to find a good seat according to the examination room number given by the registrar.
Xie Chunmei applied to the soap factory, while Wang Cuihua was more interested in the food factory, so she applied to the food factory.
Xie Chunmei instructed Wang Cuihua in another examination room, "Hold your pen carefully, don't lose it. If you don't have an eraser, you'd better think it through before you write."
Wang Cuihua's excitement suddenly waned. The two of them had finally managed to buy an ordinary pencil yesterday, but since they weren't applying to work in a factory, they had to carefully split it in half with a wood-chopping axe, one half for each of them. She had never experienced such hardship before!
Back in school, we never used up a pencil before discarding it. Now, however, one pencil costs one cent for two people, and brand-name pencils cost one and a half to two cents each. The two of them couldn't bear to buy one and only bought the cheapest one.
They went to buy erasers, only to discover that they needed to buy industrial rolls, and the cheapest ones cost one cent each—small, yellowish-brown ones. White ones cost three cents each, but they didn't have any coupons, so they could only look on longingly.
I asked around among the ticket scalpers and NPCs, and found that industrial tickets were scarce and expensive. It wasn't that I couldn't afford them, but I just felt it wasn't worth spending so much money on a small eraser.
As for the fountain pen, neither of them dared to look at it more than once.
Wang Cuihua pouted and walked into the house, finding a wooden stool that was reasonably sized for her to sit on.
Wow, this perspective on job recruitment exams is quite interesting. I feel like a school leader watching several exam livestreams, so (spits goji berries back into the cup), looking completely serene.
