Chapter 17 The Murderer is Right in Front of You 8

On the other side, the film crew was celebrating joyfully.

"Cheers, everyone! To celebrate the phenomenal ratings of 'The Murderer'!"

Everyone clinked glasses happily, and Zhang Erdai was the happiest among them because her father praised her for the first time and even posted on his WeChat Moments to promote "The Murderer." She was so excited that she almost cried.

Nevertheless, Zhang Erdai was not complacent, but instead discovered more of his shortcomings. It can be said that if it weren't for Director Lin, this drama might have really been lost among many suspense dramas.

After a satisfying meal, Zhang Erdai couldn't help but exclaim again, "Director Lin is truly amazing! At first, I was quite skeptical about using amateur actors, wondering if their acting and dialogue could keep up. Now I realize the profound meaning behind Director Lin's decision."

Everyone else waited for what would follow.

Zhang Erdai didn't keep them in suspense, explaining, "The more amateur the actor, the less obvious their acting, the more detached they are from the character when playing the murderer. The audience immediately feels that this can't be the killer. Plus, Director Lin specifically chose actors with ordinary looks, which subconsciously allows the audience to project the image of ordinary people around them, making them subconsciously believe the killer's words. That's why the audience's emotions are so intense when the killer's lies are finally revealed. That's a truly brilliant move!"

The murderer in this drama is designed to mislead the audience, both in appearance and in words. If the audience suspects a wrongful conviction or that there is more to the story, they have fallen into the director's trap. This is because there are many loopholes in the murderer's narrative, such as how he entered the victim's home and how he explained that the victim was stabbed in the back. These details are clearly inconsistent with the honest and law-abiding image that the murderer portrays himself as.

However, after the killer recounts his tragic life story, the audience is once again caught in an emotional turmoil, only to discover they've been deceived again. After the truth is revealed, the audience experiences a sense of psychological deception, subconsciously becoming wary of the killer. Rather than employing sophisticated methods, the killer effectively manipulates the audience's emotions through this psychological shift.

However, when viewers want to criticize the show, they will find that the title itself tells them that the murderer is right in front of them from the beginning, and the show starts with scenes of him being arrested and interrogated behind bars.

While viewers offered various excuses for the murderers, they overlooked the fact that the murderers never believed they were wrong. Their so-called repentance was merely crocodile tears, a tool to escape punishment; they might simply be pure evil. After all, so many people have experienced hardship, why did they alone choose to commit evil? Aren't those excuses another form of evil?

After listening, everyone spontaneously applauded, and their admiration for Director Lin grew even stronger. They thought, "He truly deserves to be called Director Lin. I'll follow him in the future!"

Wang Li, sitting at the dinner table, had a complicated expression. He called himself a seasoned suspense enthusiast and had even filmed two suspense web series. Although both flopped, he never felt that it was because he lacked ability. Instead, he lamented that he was born at the wrong time and that the audience lacked the ability to appreciate his work.

However, nowadays, Director Lin, who has never worked on the suspense genre before, has seen his first suspense drama not only become a huge hit but also generate constant discussion, with trending topics dominating the search terms for a whole day before and after its release.

During the script preparation stage, he had already given up on himself because of the requirements set by Director Lin, only to find out later that he was a frog in a well. He thought suspense was a niche genre, but now he can hear children and the elderly discussing the plot and characters of the show everywhere he goes, with everyone having their own opinions.

What's niche isn't suspense, but rather rigid thinking and self-imposed limitations.

Wang Li honestly admitted that he couldn't direct a drama like "The Murderer," and couldn't even come up with the core of the script. It seems he really lacks the ability to be a good director, nor can he create a good suspense film.

Perhaps, as his family says, he might as well go back to being a programmer.

Lin Xiaoxiao was surprised to receive a call from Wang Li resigning, after all, Wang Li was one of the screenwriters of the show. Hearing that Wang Li had decided to retire from the entertainment industry, she was even more at a loss.

Lin Xiaoxiao told Wang Li to think it over carefully, because she was really busy right now.

The movie "The Murderer" became a huge hit, and then major TV stations, including digital channels, also imported it. Various interviews followed one after another, but Lin Xiaoxiao declined them all. After all, no one can accept rubbing salt into the wound again and again.

Seeing this, the digital television station turned to Zhang Erdai, wanting firsthand interview materials about "The Murderer".

Zhang Erdai was riding high, praising her father, so of course she accepted the interview. Not only did she accept it herself, but she also brought He Yue and Wang Li along.

——————

"Hello everyone, this is MTV80's interview program 'I Love Watching Dramas,' and I'm your host, Miko."

Today we have invited the screenwriting team of the recently popular drama "The Murderer Is Right in Front of You"—Zhang Erdai, Wang Li, and He Yue. Welcome to the three of you. Please say hello to our viewers at home.

The three introduced themselves and greeted each other in turn.

"Before 'The Murderer,' Wang Li had already written and directed two suspense dramas. He Yue was the screenwriter of 'Love Under the Moonlight 1,' which was a huge hit last summer, and I believe everyone is familiar with her. Zhang Erdai is also a familiar name to many viewers. Apart from Wang Li, none of the three of you seem to have worked on suspense dramas before. Could you tell me what led you to join this project?"

It was He Yue's first time being interviewed, and she was a little nervous, so she looked at Zhang Erdai.

After following in his father's footsteps into the industry, Zhang Erdai has given countless interviews, both official and unofficial, making him a seasoned veteran. So, he was the first to answer, "It all started with Director Lin. Last year, Director Lin's two hit dramas sparked a craze for melodramatic dramas in the industry. As everyone knows, most of my previous dramas were family dramas, which are somewhat similar to Director Lin's style. Then, when I heard that Director Lin was preparing a new drama, I submitted my resume, hoping to learn more from him."
