Chapter 27 Island Survival 5

Following the clues provided by Zhang Nan, Brother Xu opened several locked cabinets on the first floor. He was secretly pleased and even became much more amiable towards Zhang Nan.

"Zhang Nan, you're really something! You actually cracked all the codes."

Xu thought to himself, "Zhang Nan is really smart. With Zhang Nan and my current men, we'll definitely escape successfully within 24 hours." As he thought this, Xu called Zhang Nan over to look at all the documents they found in the cabinets.

Zhang Nan didn't stand on ceremony and sat directly in the middle of the only sofa in the hospital office. Compared to the others who were wary of each other, he seemed completely unaware of the danger and casually invited Wang Quan to watch along.

Xu Ge's face darkened slightly, which he showed to Zhang Nan because Zhang Nan was a bit smarter than the others. However, Xu Ge truly had no liking for Wang Quan whatsoever. During the evidence search, Wang Quan had been slacking off and didn't seem to be paying attention, so compared to the clever Zhang Nan with her clues, Xu Ge was wary of Wang Quan.

Sure enough, when the others heard Zhang Nan's words, some of the team members who were serious about collecting evidence became a little emotional. Fortunately, Brother Xu still had some prestige in the team and suppressed the other team members who had opinions and were making a fuss with his eyes.

Wang Quan hadn't expected Zhang Nan to actually find a clue and even know the passwords to all the locks. Then, in front of everyone, he made Zhang Nan, a newcomer who hadn't contributed anything yet, the first to look at the information. Was Zhang Nan really that lacking in emotional intelligence?

If everyone else's gazes were like daggers, Wang Quan felt as if his back was riddled with holes. He could only awkwardly touch the tip of his nose and say, "You and Brother Xu should take a look first."

After Wang Quan finished speaking, he clearly felt that the fierce glares behind him had lessened considerably, but he still felt a bit bitter inside. He hadn't expected Zhang Nan to be so troublesome, making him the center of attention all of a sudden.

However, Zhang Nan, sitting on the sofa, looked completely bewildered, as if oblivious to the atmosphere around them. Her clear eyes sparkled with confusion. "Huh? Why? Wouldn't having more people look around help us find the clues sooner? Wang Quan, don't you want to find the clues as quickly as possible?"

Zhang Nan's tone wasn't blaming; in fact, it sounded like she was trying to be considerate of Wang Quan. However, as soon as she said the last sentence, everyone around her turned their suspicious gazes toward Wang Quan, and those who were close even took a step back.

Now everyone's eyes, including Brother Xu's, were on Wang Quan with suspicion.

Wang Quan belatedly realized that his answer had aroused suspicion among the others. Before he could figure out what to do, he quickly tried to cover it up, saying, "I wanted to see it, but I was thinking that I didn't contribute anything earlier, so I'm sorry to be the first to see it. Brother Xu and you both contributed a lot to this clue, so you guys should see it first. I didn't help much, so I'll see it later."

Although his explanation was hesitant and stammering, some members of the team still believed him. This was because there were always some people in the team who couldn't find as many clues or explore as others, and they would feel inferior to others in the team. So they sympathized with Wang Quan and put their previous suspicions aside.

After all, Xu Ge had just asked Zhang Nan, who had just joined, to look at the documents. They felt there should be a first-come, first-served order, and they should be the ones to look first, but none of them dared to say a word. They had only obtained the documents because Zhang Nan had provided the password, and the clues were right there on the wall in such a conspicuous place, yet none of them had noticed them.

Although the others had no objections, Brother Xu hadn't completely let his guard down around Wang Quan. This Wang Quan was clearly suspicious; he wasn't paying attention to the evidence and kept glancing at the wristbands of the other people around him. His identification of the imposters was spot on. It seemed that when searching the next floor, he'd have to separate Wang Quan and Zhang Nan, having Zhang Nan stay with him to prevent her from being influenced by Wang Quan, as Zhang Nan's importance to Brother Xu had increased significantly at this point.

Zhang Nan, however, was not about to give up. "It's okay, come sit next to me, we can look at it together. Nobody else will mind. After all, the sooner we find clues, the sooner we can clear the game, right?"

Wang Quan felt the hostile gazes of others focused on him again. He wasn't some novel protagonist; was it appropriate for the spotlight to be shining on him? Of course not.

But if he refused again, it would seem as if he genuinely didn't care about the clues, which would immediately cast doubt on his good-guy status. He couldn't bring himself to back down and refuse. How come he hadn't realized Zhang Nan was so stubborn before? With so many people watching, he'd already refused, and now Zhang Nan was still pressing him—wasn't that putting him in a very difficult position?!

Under the resentful gazes of the crowd, Wang Quan reluctantly sat down next to Zhang Nan. He felt helpless; he knew Zhang Nan wouldn't give up if he didn't come over. Just like earlier, when he asked Brother Xu if he wanted to join the team, Zhang Nan persisted even after being rejected. He was a fake, and couldn't afford to get too involved with Zhang Nan in front of everyone, lest he attract attention.

Seeing Wang Quan's actions, Zhang Nan smiled and handed over the few documents in her hand to Wang Quan.

Xu Ge pursed his lips tightly. He felt that Zhang Nan's approach was somewhat inappropriate. What if Wang Quan was indeed a fake, and his mission was to destroy their escape route? These materials hadn't even been reviewed by them, and now they were in Wang Quan's hands. If they contained important clues, Wang Quan could easily conceal them. However, since Zhang Nan had handed them over, he didn't want to contradict Zhang Nan in front of everyone. After all, Zhang Nan's current abilities were beneficial to him and the team.

Xu glanced at his trusted partner Hong Yang, then at Wang Quan, who was staring blankly at the documents, sweat beading on his forehead. Hong Yang, true to Xu's trust, understood immediately after their eyes met. He moved closer to Wang Quan's other side and patted him on the shoulder like a close friend.

"Wang Quan, right? You look a lot like one of my cousins. It's really fate that we can still recognize each other. Let's watch it together."

Wang Quan dared not refuse anything. Everyone else in the team was practically shooting him in the eye. He was overjoyed that someone was being friendly to him at this moment.

Zhang Nan glanced at it briefly before continuing to look through the documents in her hand.
