Chapter 33 Island Survival 11

It was only then that Ivan caught a glimpse of something unusual in his anger at the use of the anti-infection item. Ivan's team now had two engineers, but no doctor, so for the sake of team harmony, all eight of them kept their distance from each other, barely maintaining team harmony.

They had finally found a cure for the infection, only to have it used right under their noses, which is why Ivan was blinded by rage. However, his emotions subsided, and he quickly noticed something was wrong with Wang Quan.

Wang Quan's heart skipped a beat. Oh no, the worst had happened.

Xu Yang took something out of his pocket—a prop gun, the muzzle of which was pointed directly at Wang Quan's bracelet.

Wang Quanxin was in his throat. He wanted to run, but the two guards at the gate were both Ivan's men. When he reached the gate, they closed it from the outside, and he was ultimately eliminated.

As Xu Yang drew closer, Wang Quan could no longer hear any human noise. It was as if the only sounds in the air were the ticking of a heartbeat and the invisible, intangible aura of fear.

"What are you doing?! Why are you pointing guns at Wang Quan?!"

Before the outcome was decided, Zhang Nan suddenly rushed out and stood in front of Wang Quan.

Wang Quan felt his eyes instantly well up with tears. Zhang Nan was such a fool! He was truly inhuman! For such a stupid show, he actually betrayed Zhang Nan, who trusted him implicitly. He already knew he wouldn't win the grand prize, yet he hurt Zhang Nan, the person who trusted him most, for that unattainable 50 million yuan. He deserved to die! He lied to Zhang Nan, and even influenced her twice, yet Zhang Nan still believed him without hesitation. Wang Quan declared that from now on, Zhang Nan would be his best friend for life, without exception!

Xu Yang's tone had turned extremely cold, "Go away, so you don't get hurt by accident. I won't feel sorry for you."

Wang Quan composed himself and patted Zhang Nan's shoulder firmly. "Zhang Nan, stay away from me. I don't want to get hurt later. You have to work hard. I'll go backstage and wait for you. We'll go back together after this is over."

Zhang Nan was quite stubborn, "No, we agreed to come and play together, what's the point of me doing it alone? Hey, clearly one of you approached me just now, why are you only suspecting Wang Quan? Are you trying to pin this on Wang Quan?"

Zhang Nan's gaze fell on Xu Yang, who was holding a gun, and the eyes of Ivan's team members also flickered.

Ivan had a bad feeling. His team of seven were all elites, very proud, and they had only temporarily put aside their differences to cooperate in order to reach the finals. Although they were working together, they were also wary of each other. He couldn't let this kid stir things up here.

"Kid, don't talk nonsense. You yourself said you've been infected twice. We weren't together before. When we met you two, there were only two of you."

The others exchanged thoughtful glances, and the team's harmony was solidified once again.

Xu Yang, who was being questioned, looked terrible. After all, no one would be in a good mood if someone framed him.

"If you say anything more out of line, I'll beat you up."

Ivan didn't stop Xu Yang. Xu Yang was a retired national level-two Sanda athlete, and his family owned a martial arts school. Although he had a bad temper and was unapproachable, he wasn't the type to bully the weak. Ivan knew that Xu Yang was just venting his anger, and after the show ended, everyone would return to reality.

Zhang Nan hesitated for a long time. "I won't let you. If you suspect that Wang Quan is a fake, we'll leave. But I believe that Wang Quan is not a fake."

Xu Yang hadn't lost his mind; he wasn't stupid enough to beat someone up in front of so many surveillance cameras. However, Zhang Nan, being a fool, couldn't be threatened or dissuaded with words, so Xu Yang couldn't do anything about him and could only swear in the end.

Ivan then took a good look at Zhang Nan. He hadn't expected this man to be so loyal and righteous, and he could be considered somewhat courageous. It was just a pity that the person he was protecting wasn't him.

"Fine, let them go. You can't reason with a damned devil. Since he trusts Wang Quan, he should bear the consequences himself."

Wang Quan breathed a sigh of relief, and his body finally relaxed. He never expected that even after he had been exposed like this, Zhang Nan would still manage to pull him out.

"but."

Wang Quan's heart tightened again.

Ivan's eyes turned cold instantly. "Next time we meet, I'll send you backstage."

Wang Quan's pupils dilated, and a chill ran down his spine. He knew Ivan wasn't lying; the next time they met, Ivan would really eliminate him.

Fortunately, they got through that ordeal. Under the watchful eyes of Ivan's team, Zhang Nan and Wang Quan left the morgue without looking back.

Back on the ground, the warm sunlight streaming through the window shone on Wang Quan, and the weight on his heart finally lifted. But soon, he felt a little awkward, unsure how to explain things to his new good brother, Zhang Nan.

Wang Quan figured that whether he cowered or faced the consequences, he might as well be direct. So he stammered, "Zhang Nan... well, actually..."

Zhang Nan interrupted him, "I know everything. There must be a fake among them. They must have infected me while I was looking at the freezer. It's a good thing we're leaving them, Wang Quan."

Wang Quan's words were abruptly cut off, and he could only weakly ask, "What about the previous infections?"

Zhang Nan laughed smugly, "It must have been Brother Xu who did it. He was the closest to me before."

"Yeah, Brother Xu," Wang Quan suddenly remembered the scapegoat he had initially planned.

Wang Quan asked with a hint of bitterness and despair, "Don't you doubt me?"

Zhang Nan looked incredulous. "How could it be you? We've been together all along, and I've never been infected. I've only been infected twice, both times after joining the team. How could it be you?"

Zhang Nan's seemingly closed-loop logic and the sudden interruption made it difficult for Wang Quan to speak up and reveal the truth.

Wang Quan looked at Zhang Nan's bright smile, his own dark figure reflected in her clear, large eyes, the contrast stark and incongruous. Oh well, at worst he'd be eliminated. Anyway, he wouldn't infect Zhang Nan again. Consider it an act of kindness; what achievement could he possibly gain from harming a complete idiot?

Zhang Nan and Wang Quan were alone again, and to avoid running into Ivan's team again, they had no choice but to leave the clinical trial center.

"How about we go to the inpatient ward, the tallest building? We're sure to run into lots of groups there, and we'll find one that's willing to take us in. What do you say, Wang Quan?"

Wang Quan's eyes reddened again. Zhang Nan actually remembered his previous talk about joining the team. It was so touching.

The inpatient ward has seven floors and is the tallest building in the entire plague hospital.

When Zhang Nan and Wang Quan arrived, the rooms on the third and fourth floors of the inpatient building had been turned upside down. Even so, they still occasionally ran into small groups of five or six people. However, when they encountered each other, everyone tacitly kept their distance and did not speak to each other.
