At this moment, Sheng Yiyi and Kang Le were sitting by the roadside, eating ice cream and trying to find their way back.
"This ice cream has melted a bit."
Kang Le looked at the ice cream he bought for Lin Yang, swallowing hard. He wanted to eat some too, but it was for his older brother, so he had to resist.
Kang Le, trying to look away from the ice cream, said, "The person who gave us directions pointed in a direction that wasn't the square. What do we do now?"
Sheng Yiyi was also a little flustered, but she wasn't too scared, because if she were scared, Kang Le would definitely sense it and get nervous too.
"That person was probably a tourist too. I didn't expect tourists to look so much like locals."
Kang Le laughed and said, "Yes, I thought the blue-eyed, blond-haired people were locals. I didn't expect there to be tourists too."
Sheng Yiyi looked at the camera. The cameraman probably wouldn't tell them anything. It seemed they would have to figure out a solution themselves.
After finishing the last bite of her ice cream, Sheng Yiyi stood up and said with great determination, "Let's go! We'll knock on doors. I refuse to believe there aren't any locals inside."
Although Sheng Yiyi's behavior was very presumptuous, it must be said that her beautiful appearance dispelled the locals' resentment, and they still kindly gave them directions.
When the two finally returned to the square, they were dumbfounded—where was everyone else?!
Kang Le was getting anxious, her panic visibly evident. "Did they abandon us?"
Sheng Yiyi had to admit she was a little panicked. She had finally found her base, only to find that there was no one there.
"They definitely wouldn't abandon us. They probably came looking for us since we haven't come back for so long. Yes, that must be it. We'll definitely run into them on our way to the ice cream shop."
Feeling uncertain and clearly insecure, Sheng Yiyi tightly held onto Kang Le's hand and walked towards the ice cream shop.
"Have you found it?"
"There isn't one here."
"I haven't found them either; they didn't go back to the ice cream shop."
Everyone was in a bad mood. They had searched all the alleys, calling out as they went, but there was no trace of them.
Looking at Peng Lei and Zhao Shufang, whose legs were trembling from searching for someone, Lin Yang suddenly thought, "Could they have gone back to the hotel? Why don't you go back to the hotel first, and I'll go to the square to check again. Maybe they've found their way back to the square."
Zhao Shufang insisted on going to the square with them, saying, "If I hadn't asked them to buy ice cream, they wouldn't have gotten lost. I want to go with them to look for them; I won't feel at ease going back to the hotel."
Peng Lei and the others tried to persuade him, saying, "It's not just your fault. You meant well. None of us adults thought it was wrong to let two kids go buy ice cream, so we're also at fault."
Lin Yang also felt a little guilty. "I should have gone with them just now. If I hadn't been a bit lazy and thought the distance wasn't far, I would have just sat there and let them go. They wouldn't have gotten lost. In the end, it's my fault as the older brother. Once they find their way back, I'll go with them no matter what we do next time."
After feeling guilty, everyone set off again to search for the two. Zhao Shufang and Peng Lei, due to their leg problems, were left behind at the stall.
Peng Miao and Zhang Jian were still quite agile, so they continued their search into the depths of the other two alleys.
If you can't find them, go back to where Zhao Shufang and Peng Lei were and go to the police station.
Lin Yang ran to the square, ignoring the sweat covering his body. Seeing that no one was at the original spot, his heart sank. It seemed that they had not been found. He was afraid that the two of them might have unintentionally wandered to a place further away, outside this area.
Sheng Yiyi and Kang Le walked back to the ice cream shop. They didn't encounter anyone else along the way. When they saw the empty ice cream shop with no customers in the distance, Kang Le gripped Sheng Yiyi's hand tightly, her voice trembling with tears, "They're not at the ice cream shop. They abandoned us."
Sheng Yiyi was also surprised to find the square and ice cream shop deserted. Where had the person gone? She could only feign nonchalance, "They certainly wouldn't dare abandon us. Abandoning a child is illegal in other countries; you'd get arrested and spanked."
Kang Le's attention was immediately diverted. "Really? Do children really not just get abandoned abroad?"
Sheng Yiyi noticed that Kang Le kept talking about lost children, guessing that he might have gotten lost before. So she tried to distract him, saying, "No one would intentionally lose a child, so don't worry. I assure you, I'm swearing on this ice cream. Have you ever gotten lost before?"
Kang Le listened to Sheng Yiyi's promise to the ice cream and finally relaxed a little. "When I was little, my dad took me out to play once, but before I even got in the car, he drove off."
"Then he must have come back to you, right? He definitely didn't abandon you on purpose."
Kang Le nodded. "He came with his mother, grandparents, and maternal grandparents. I even saw grandparents hitting dad."
Kang Le laughed as she talked, and Sheng Yiyi breathed a sigh of relief, at least the trip hadn't had a bad psychological impact on the child.
"Let's go find the police. They'll definitely find a way to locate them."
Kang Le nodded. "They're so naughty, they actually got lost. Unlike me, I stayed where I was and waited for my dad."
Sheng Yiyi smiled and agreed, "Then you're very smart."
"Of course."
Just as the two were eating their seventh cookie like little hamsters at the police station, Peng Miao, who was supporting Zhao Shufang, Peng Lei, who was using crutches, and Lin Yang and Zhang Jian, who were covered in sweat from running, appeared at the entrance of the police station.
"Officer, I want to report a crime."
When Kang Le saw Lin Yang, he jumped up and exclaimed, "Big brother! You guys have finally been found! Don't run around like that next time!"
