3. Chapter 3
"A little trouble is coming"
Qi You didn't meet the Third Prince and the others for several days. He was busy going to school and had no time to take care of other things, so he put the matter aside for the time being.
Whenever Kangxi had time, he would come to the Shangshufang to see how the princes were doing in their studies, and he would check their homework when he came.
Qi You proved his golden finger, essentially achieving a photographic memory. Memorization was no problem, but writing required practice, as memorization wasn't very helpful. Three parts talent and seven parts effort—writing was the only way to learn.
Qi You, like his classmates, was just starting out. Qi You worked hard every day, spending all his time after school, except for eating, sleeping, and going to the bathroom, practicing his calligraphy.
After writing for a while, Qi You stood up and walked around for a while, then looked into the distance. His legs were already disabled and he couldn't become nearsighted.
Whenever Kangxi checked Qi You's homework, he always left with satisfaction. However, he gave special instructions on his calligraphy: "Your calligraphy is like a person's face. You must write well and don't rush for success."
Qi You responded obediently, taking the opportunity to say, "Khan Ama, I'm almost done with my Thousand Character Classic. Can I learn other lessons from you?"
Kangxi pondered for a moment, then smiled and said, "As long as you can understand it, you can learn whatever you want."
"Yes!" Qi You answered loudly, and then he took advantage of the situation again. "Khan Ama, I still want to learn arithmetic. I am not good at counting. I can't even count how much money I have."
Kangxi laughed heartily, stroking Qi You's little head and saying repeatedly, "Good, good, good! It's rare to find someone interested in learning mathematics. Since you haven't learned to draw a bow yet, take advantage of this time after school to learn from someone in the Hanlin Academy who's good at mathematics. If you do well, you can later learn from Nan Huairen, who came from the West."
Qi You knew that Kangxi liked mathematics, and because of his interest, other officials studied mathematics. In addition to studying eight-legged essays, the Hanlin scholars also studied some mathematics they could.
Studying with teachers in the Hanlin Academy, including the current early childhood classes, can only be regarded as a temporary measure for Qi You.
Qi You’s goal is to skip a grade and be on the same level as other princes, or even graduate early and start working.
Because of Qi You, the Manchu, Mongolian and Han teachers gained face in front of Kangxi. Not only did they pay more attention to him, but they also gave him special treatment.
Qi You's learning progress left other students far behind. He finished learning "Thousand Character Classic" ahead of time and started learning the Six Classics.
At first, since Qi You was a prince, his classmates naturally did not dare to bully him openly, but they all isolated him and never spoke to him during breaks after class.
When Qi You was really far away from them, these people surrounded him, took the initiative to talk to him, and asked him for advice on his homework.
Qi You never cared about their attitude in the past. His identity was a natural oppression, but his classmates were all from the Jueluo clan and were descendants of Nurhaci.
Even if Qi You is a prince, he is just a lame prince, and in the future he will be a prince at best. Among them, there is no shortage of iron-hat princes, so who can be more noble than who.
However, Qi You is so powerful that they have to look at him differently. Making friends with him will not arouse suspicion of forming a clique for personal gain.
Although Qi You does not take the initiative to interact with others, he will answer questions patiently and carefully. He is quite gentle and approachable, which makes him more popular than ever in the school.
Except for his own brother, the Third Prince.
That day, after Qi You finished lunch, seeing that it was almost time for class, he went to the bathroom with Yang Dan.
Yang Dan was a sturdy, intelligent man, though he didn't apply his intelligence to studying. As the second son, Prince Jian didn't hold him to high standards; as long as he stayed out of trouble and could write and do math, that was all he needed.
Qi You walks slowly, and Yang Dan never walks straight. He likes to walk along the edge, kicking the pillars and then stepping on the floor again.
He was running around like a monkey in front, running a long way away, then running back, slamming his head and glaring, urging Qi You: "Go faster, I'm about to pee my pants."
"You go first, don't worry about me." Qi You didn't believe Yang Dan, and he didn't dare to jump around because he was in a hurry to pee.
As expected, Yang Dan said with a smile, "I was kidding you. It's better for us to go together. If I'm late getting back to the classroom and Mr. Che sees you're there, I won't scold you."
Their Chinese teacher, Che Wanyu, wrote the book "Sound and Rhythm Primer." "Clouds are paired with rain, snow is paired with wind, and sunset is paired with clear sky." It's so catchy that even Qi You, a later generation, memorized it.
However, this book has not been published yet, and Qi You and his classmates are still learning "Lisheng Duiyun" written by Li Yu.
"Lisheng's Rhymes" mainly involves recitation. Yang Dan recited the next sentence and forgot the previous one, and was often punished by Mr. Che, whom Yang Dan was most afraid of.
Qi You smiled without saying anything, still walking at his own leisurely pace.
Yang Dan circled around Qi You, approached him with a smile, and pleaded pitifully, "Good brother, when Mr. gets off the car and tests me on how to recite, can you secretly stand the book up? I have good eyesight, I can see it clearly with just one glance and I will be able to recite it right away."
"Do you recognize all the characters?" Qi You smiled and stabbed Yang Dan.
The smile on Yang Dan's face immediately disappeared, and a bitter face turned into one. He said in frustration, "Really? Why are those characters so difficult? My father said that the characters know me, but I'm not familiar with them. Writing is also difficult. There are so many gestures, my hands are broken from writing, and there is endless homework every day."
Qi You couldn't help laughing, "You can't finish it anyway, so it doesn't matter if there are more."
"That's right." Yang Dan scratched his head and chuckled again. He never finished his homework every day, and even if he did, he would just scribble on it to make up the numbers. He had been punished by Mr. Che so hard that he didn't take it seriously at all.
After chatting and laughing, they arrived at the toilet, and Yang Dan and Qi You went in separately to relieve themselves.
Qi You had just entered and was halfway through peeing when the door suddenly banged loudly. Qi You shuddered and almost peed on his hand, and asked loudly, "Who?"
"I! Seventh Brother, are you laying an egg in there? You've been in there for so long, why aren't you done yet? Come out quickly, I need to go to the bathroom!" The angry voice of the Third Prince followed.
Qi You frowned. When he came in earlier, he saw two doors on the left that were ajar, and there was no one inside.
The Third Prince knocked on his door deliberately, and trouble came.
