teasing
After closing the door, He Lin remained silent, turning around to look at her in quiet contemplation.
Although it was her first time entering the room, Jiang Yi acted as if she were the room's owner, walking straight to the table and pouring herself a glass of water.
"Aren't you going to ask me why I came out?" Jiang Yi casually wiped her mouth.
He Lin shook his head slightly: "You must have your reasons for coming out, but..."
Looking into those bright eyes, they were just like a cunning little fox.
"Just what?"
He Lin smiled and asked, "Did the guards at the gate give you any trouble?"
"No, I sneaked out by climbing over the wall."
He Lin was stunned, seemingly not expecting that a pampered young lady like her would do something as rude as climbing over a wall. Jiang Yi ignored He Lin's expression and asked, "Do you have anything to eat?"
She glanced around but didn't see any food in the room, so she simply asked. However, the room was decorated with a festive atmosphere, indicating that it was a room for the newlyweds.
The double happiness characters on the windows and lampshades came into view, and even the screen that blocked the view had a big double happiness character pasted on it. Jiang Yi thought to herself, "Could it be that even the bedding he uses to sleep is red?"
Just as he was lost in thought, He Lin frowned and asked, "Didn't they bring you food?"
"I gave it to them, but I don't dare eat it; I'm afraid it might be poisonous."
She answered with an air of righteous indignation, as if it were perfectly normal for the food to be poisoned. He Lin silently breathed a sigh of relief: "No, don't worry. Although the First Madam is domineering, she wouldn't go so far as to harm someone's life."
Jiang Yi nodded noncommittally, then asked pitifully, "So, is there anything to eat? I've been starving all day."
He Lin choked, pulled his outer robe tighter around himself, and said, "You wait here, don't wander off, I'll be right back."
Jiang Yi obediently sat down in the chair, rested her chin on her hands, and winked at him, "Okay, go ahead, I'll wait for you."
After He Lin left, Jiang Yi picked up a book that was spread out on the table and flipped through it aimlessly.
Tsk, this classical Chinese is really obscure and difficult to understand. Ordinary people can't understand it and can't figure it out. It's like reading a book from heaven. For example, Jiang Yi couldn't help but sigh in her heart. If someone's family produces the top scorer in the country, it's truly a blessing from their ancestors. The top scorer can be called a genius among geniuses!
Just as she put down her book and looked around the room, she heard a strange noise coming from the doorway.
"Come back..."
Jiang Yi swallowed the last "了" back. She hadn't taken two steps when she met Gu Ziyu's gaze as he entered the room. Gu Ziyu looked at her with wide eyes, as if he had seen a ghost.
"Young Madam Jiang, what are you doing here? Where is the young master?"
"He just went out, he'll be back in a bit." Jiang Yi's gaze shifted to the tray in his hands, on which lay a bowl of dark, foul-smelling medicine that smelled nauseating and tasted terribly bitter. "You brought him medicine?"
Gu Ziyu placed the celadon bowl on the table and answered truthfully, "Yes, young master needs to take medicine every day."
Jiang Yi glanced down, her curiosity piqued, and with a glint in her eyes, she lowered her voice and gossiped, "Hey, what illness does your young master have?"
“This…” Gu Ziyu’s eyes flickered, not daring to look Jiang Yi in the eye. “I’m sorry, young mistress, I cannot say without the young master’s permission.”
Jiang Yi crossed her arms and stared at him suspiciously for a long time. "Why couldn't you tell me? His illness is a matter of my lifelong happiness! What if he can't make it..."
Just as she was getting into the conversation, Jiang Yi suddenly stopped talking because she caught a glimpse of a figure over Gu Ziyu's shoulder out of the corner of her eye. Who else could it be but He Lin?!
He was stunned, standing there motionless with the food box in his hand.
Seeing that she was speechless and staring blankly behind her, Gu Ziyu turned around and gasped when he saw who it was: "Young Master."
He Lin coughed lightly: "Okay. I made you a simple bowl of noodles, and there are also a few plates of snacks for you to take home and eat."
The first part was a response to Gu Ziyu, and the second part was addressed to Jiang Yi.
As he spoke, He Lin walked over and pushed the medicine on the table to the side. Although it was a very simple action, Gu Ziyu was terrified and broke out in a cold sweat.
If he doesn't understand Jiang Yi, how could he not understand his own young master?
He clearly took Jiang's words to heart. Gu Ziyu thought to himself that things were not good. It was best to make a quick getaway. Good luck to you, Jiang!
"Young master, I... I need to go to the outhouse."
After saying that, Gu Ziyu seemed to have slipped away as fast as lightning.
"Is he alright?"
"It's okay, don't worry about him. He's just bored after eating too much tonight."
Jiang Yi nodded, picked up her chopsticks, and started slurping the food as if she hadn't eaten in centuries, completely disregarding her image.
It has to be said that this guy has the face of a typical gigolo, and his cooking is surprisingly delicious. He not only poached an egg, but also sprinkled scallions and drizzled sesame oil on it. It's a feast for the eyes, nose, and palate, leaving a lingering fragrance and an unforgettable aftertaste.
He Lin sat opposite her, squinted at her for a while, and didn't say anything.
Jiang Yi took a sip of soup, sighed deeply, then scooped up a mouthful of noodles and put it in her mouth, saying indistinctly, "Why aren't you taking your medicine? It'll get cold if you don't."
He Lin smiled silently, then drank the dark liquid without changing his expression. His Adam's apple bobbed a few times, and the bottom of the bowl was already visible.
“My illness is not serious, and you don’t need to worry about your lifelong happiness. If you are willing, stay overnight tonight and you will know whether I am capable or not.”
Jiang Yi choked: "Pfft...cough cough..."
She even choked on the noodles she was chewing, but luckily she turned her head in time, otherwise she would have sprayed He Lin's face with it.
He Lin silently poured a glass of water and placed it in front of her.
Jiang Yi stopped coughing, staring at him with wide eyes and a shocked expression. Had this person been possessed by a ghost while he was out? Was this the He Lin she knew who would say such a thing?!
She had originally intended to tell Gu Ziyu, "What if he becomes incapacitated?" implying that she didn't want to become a widow for no reason!
But when it came to He Lin, it took on a different meaning. He heard it as "what if he can't do it?" Well, omitting just two words caused a huge misunderstanding!
Although she is indeed beautiful, Jiang Yi is a woman of principle, okay? Would she do something like forcibly taking a man from the common people? Of course not!
He Lin looked back at her without fear, raising an eyebrow as he did so.
As Jiang Yi watched, she couldn't take it anymore and felt her face getting hot.
Did she swallow her tongue after eating this bowl of noodles? This usually eloquent and thick-skinned person is actually too embarrassed to refute?! If it were before, she would have jumped three feet high and started cursing!
Hiss—that's strange!
Jiang Yi lowered her head and gulped down the rest of the noodle soup. Without saying a word, she picked up the wrapped pastries and was about to get up and leave.
She moved quickly, but dared not look at the person opposite her. "I'm sorry for making a mess of your room. I... I'll go now. Xia Zhi hasn't eaten yet!"
He Lin watched her retreating figure as if she were fleeing, a faint smile appearing deep in his eyes.
This guy is really something else.
"Bang—"
The door was pushed open forcefully, clearly indicating that the person who entered hadn't pulled back their strength.
He Lin looked up towards the doorway. Jiang Yi was standing there, holding some snacks in her hand, her face showing a hint of something she wanted to say but couldn't.
Fortunately, He Lin lived in a courtyard by himself, otherwise the commotion would have attracted the servants.
"What's wrong?"
"You, you just wait! I'll get my revenge! I'll be back at this time tomorrow night! Oh, and by the way, buy me some storybooks. It's so boring in the backyard, I need some to pass the time!"
Jiang Yi turned and ran after saying that, her figure quickly disappearing into the darkness.
He Lin couldn't help but chuckle, feeling that his hands and feet were no longer as cold as before.
