wake up

He Lin sighed softly, "Perhaps. Jiang Yi, there won't be a next time. If you dare to leave again, I will never let you go."

Jiang Yi's heart skipped a beat. What a coincidence! Her return this time was ultimately for the purpose of leaving, and leaving completely!

Perhaps she shouldn't have provoked He Lin in the first place; leaving him all alone in this world would be too cruel...

"He Lin, I...cannot agree to that."

He Lin's heart tightened, and his throat trembled: "What did you say?"

Jiang Yi closed her eyes, steeled her resolve, and suddenly opened them, saying each word clearly, "I don't know when I'll fall into this situation again, with no breath, no pulse, no heartbeat, no temperature, just like a real dead person. No, to be precise, I'm dead. But you have to know that I'm not really dead, I'm just living in another way. I don't know if you can understand... It's just that death is real, but living is also real!"

The more Jiang Yi talked, the more incoherent she became, and the less she could explain herself. It was truly a tangled mess.

He Lin didn't speak, but the force in his hands gradually increased. Jiang Yi felt like her shoulders were about to be crushed by him, but she just frowned and didn't say anything to remind him.

She admitted that she did like He Lin's face at first, and it wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that it was a masterpiece created by Nuwa. Later, the system appeared and asked her to win over He Lin and uncover the secrets of him in order to return to the modern society she lived in. Jiang Yi did as she was told, but she never expected that the two of them would actually fall in love with each other in the following days, to the point that their emotional entanglement deepened to the point that they could not let go of each other...

Even so, Jiang Yi's goal has always been clear: she wants to return to the modern world. She still has her mother to take care of and her career to strive for. She cannot abandon her real existence just because of a car accident that led to her time travel and falling in love with He Lin. She cannot do that.

Of all the things Jiang Yi has wronged from beginning to end, there is only one person: He Lin.

"...I'm sorry, after I die, you can do whatever you want. You don't need to guard my body or my grave. Find a woman who loves you, and you should spend your life with her. I won't be able to be by your side anymore..."

"Shut up!"

He Lin spat out those two words through gritted teeth, almost grinding his back teeth to powder.

“He Lin…”

Before she could finish speaking, the next second, He Lin's large hand gripped Jiang Yi's slender neck, the veins on the back of his hand bulging, as if he wanted to strangle her.

But only Jiang Yi knew that he hadn't used any force at all; he had simply been choking her neck.

Fierce on the surface, but soft on the inside.

Just like him.

"Jiang Yi, you liar! Listen to this, I won't let you leave me. I have a way to revive you once, and I can revive you a second time! You'll never leave me alone in this lifetime!"

After saying that, He Lin let go of her, stood up, and was about to leave.

Jiang Yi grabbed his hand just in time, her eyes shining, and pleaded, "He Lin! Can we have a proper talk?"

He Lin took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly, and said coldly, "On this matter, I have nothing to say to you."

After saying that, He Lin cruelly brushed Jiang Yi's hand away, leaving her alone in the room.

After He Lin left, the room was extremely quiet; Jiang Yi could even hear her own heartbeat.

After a long while, she smiled slightly, a smile that was both sarcastic and self-deprecating.

He Lin is right. If he can save her once, he can save her a second time. As long as the original owner's body has not found peace, she will not have completed her mission and will continue to travel between the two worlds, forever entangled with him.

[001, stop pretending to be dead. I'm asking you, more than two months have passed since I woke up in the hospital, so why has only a few days passed here?]

The tides rise and fall, the sun sets in the west, and the moon rises in the east...

[Tsk, speak like a human being! Isn't that all nonsense? Everyone knows that!]

[...The host can be understood as a spacetime reversal.]

[Why didn't you say that earlier? Stop making up all this nonsense. So what do we do now? He Lin won't listen to my explanation at all. Isn't there any other way?]

[This is the host's own business. Please do not seek outside assistance. Zero Zero One reminds you again that the host must not discuss anything related to the real world with He Lin. Otherwise, the host will have to bear all the consequences. Ding—]

Hey, how can a system be so petty? You've even learned to argue with people!

Realizing that the current seemed to have disappeared from his mind, he wondered if this unreliable system had actually run away.

Jiang Yi snapped angrily, "Hey! 001! I haven't finished speaking yet! Hey!"

"Holy crap? Terrible review! I'm giving you a terrible review! I'm also going to complain to the System Administration Bureau!!"

"Miss, who are you talking to? I saw the young master leave just now, and he didn't look too good."

"Hey, it's nothing, don't worry about it."

Xia Zhi came in carrying a food box and placed the food on the table one by one.

Jiang Yi's mouth watered at the aroma of the food. Without a second thought, she threw off the covers, put on her coat and shoes, sat down on the stool, and took a big gulp of the ginseng soup. She felt completely refreshed. Then she shoveled mouthfuls of rice into her mouth.

Xia Zhi was startled and quickly helped her cool a cup of tea and put it aside, then patted Jiang Yi's back.

"Miss, please eat slowly, don't choke."

"It's nothing, it's nothing," Jiang Yi mumbled, her mouth stuffed full of food, "I was starving!"

Xia Zhi smiled and said, "These dishes were made by Madam Tong herself. She said she would come to see Miss again later."

"How can that be? I already feel bad that my mother cooks for me. How can I let her come to see a junior like me? I'll go to Qinxiang Garden myself. You can come with me after dinner."

"Alright. But since you've just woken up, is there anything wrong with your body?"

Jiang Yi shook her head and buried her head in her mouth, shoveling several mouthfuls of fragrant white rice into her mouth.

"No, your young lady is in great health! She's doing wonderfully! Don't worry."

When Xia Zhi heard her say that she was alright, the weight that had been hanging over her heart finally lifted.

Before going to Qinxiang Garden, she didn't expect that Shangguan Muya and Yin Zhaobai would come to visit her first. The group chatted for about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn. He Lin used the excuse that she had just woken up and needed to rest to force the two of them to leave. In the end, he went even further and kicked Xia Zhi out as well. Gu Ziyu and Shan Yanzhi were nowhere to be seen either.

Without a doubt, only the two of them remained in the entire Luoying Courtyard.

After a moment of silence, Jiang Yi lifted her leg and walked towards him, but He Lin turned his face away and refused to look at her again.

Jiang Yi stopped and turned to walk towards the hot spring in the backyard. He Lin watched her retreating figure, pursed his lips, and looked at her with a complex expression, as if a raging storm was surging deep in his eyes.

Halfway through her bath, Jiang Yi heard footsteps outside the screen. Without even opening her eyes, she knew who it was. There was no one else in the courtyard except for her and He Lin.

From the moment Jiang Yi learned that He Lin had filled the secret room in his study with her portraits, she gained a deeper understanding of him. He Lin was a person with an exceptionally strong desire for control and possession. The reason he didn't show it much on a daily basis was because he suppressed it. He was always good at disguising himself.

He Lin squatted down by the pool and reached out to test the water temperature.

Are you cold?

Jiang Yi opened her wet eyes and smiled, "Finally willing to talk to me?"

He Lin didn't answer, just squatted there watching her for a while, then stood up and was about to leave.

Jiang Yi quickly grabbed his hand.

"He Lin!"

"Let go."

"No, I won't let go!"

He Lin's dark eyes were fixed on her, and Jiang Yi instantly cowered. She let go of his hand and took a small step toward the edge of the pool, as if she had only just realized how shy she was. The water in the hot spring was not enough to submerge her entire body, and her fair and fragrant shoulders were exposed above the water.

"I'll go outside and wait for you."

"Wait for He Lin!"

He Lin paused at the screen. The sound of rushing water came from the pool. Jiang Yi came up from the hot spring. Hearing the movement behind him, his Adam's apple bobbed slightly involuntarily.

Jiang Yi stepped onto the wooden plank and approached him step by step, leaving behind clear, wet footprints.

When Jiang Yi quietly walked around to the front of He Lin, his eyes widened slightly. After glancing at her, he quickly turned his face away, reached out and grabbed a garment from the wooden rack next to the screen, draping it over her shoulders.

Jiang Yi couldn't help but find it a little funny. She smiled and then stepped forward, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed his beautiful lips.

He Lin was clearly stunned, his whole body stiffening.

Being careful that Jiang Yi's clothes might fall off, He Lin wrapped his arms around most of her waist. Noticing this, Jiang Yi's smile widened slightly when they kissed.

After an unknown amount of time, Jiang Yi felt her mouth go numb, and He Lin finally loosened his grip on her a little.

“Jiang Yi, if you feel guilty towards me and that’s why you’re doing this, then you don’t need to. I’ve said it before, everything I’ve done for you is of my own free will.”

"No, I do. He Lin, I love you..."

The two stared at each other at close range, their eyes shining with an alarming brightness, even brighter than the stars in the sky.

Are you serious?

Jiang Yi smiled: "Yes, I'm serious."

He Lin pursed his lips, shook his head, and said disbelievingly, "But how much truth do you actually tell? You've fooled me too many times, how can I trust you?"

Jiang Yi tiptoed up and gave him a quick kiss, then asked with a smile, "How about this?"

"Stop fooling around. If you're done soaking, hurry up and put on your clothes. You just woke up not long ago, so don't catch a cold."

Jiang Yi sighed silently in her heart. It was true, her credibility with He Lin was ridiculously low! Who was to blame? She could only blame herself.

He Lin was about to take her hands off, but Jiang Yi refused, clinging tightly to his neck and pulling back against him.

With a splash, the two of them fell into the hot spring...
