Why should a mother sacrifice herself to atone for her sins?
Sasuke was furious, but that wasn't the reason he wanted to stop Madara Uchiha and Hyuga Kaze. The more important reason was that he didn't want to see Konoha disappear. He wanted Itachi to become a hero!
If Madara were to destroy Konoha, then the last trace of Itachi's existence would be erased, and if Konoha were destroyed, how could he let others know the sacrifices Itachi made for the peace of the village?
Even if Hyuga Kaze wins and Konoha is destroyed, would people believe what Hyuga Kaze or his mother say?
The only way to restore Itachi's reputation is through an official announcement issued in the name of the village, while Konoha still exists.
