Chapter 10: Starting to Stockpile

As the energy crystals are absorbed more, the space will continue to grow. Five hundred shelves may sound like a lot, but they won't take up much space inside.

After a long day of running around, Zuo Ling was exhausted and found a chain hotel near the Xinfa Market to stay in.

The next day, Zuo Ling arrived at Xinfa Market early.

She lives far away and had never been to Xinfadi before, but her first impression upon entering was that it was huge.

If you can't tell which one is good and which one is bad, just look at the brand.

Many signs read things like "50-year-old store", "30-year-old store", "20 years of integrity".

After looking at the signs, you can see the customer flow and the sales volume. If you can't figure it out in a short time, just look at which store is clean and tidy.

A clean and tidy store indicates that the owner is diligent and keeps things organized, making it less likely that there will be old stock.

In the end, I chose a 30-year-old grain and oil store.

The shop assistants were busy taking orders from customers. The shop owner was a man in his early fifties with slightly graying hair.

A young woman, whom the shop owner didn't recognize, entered. The shop owner, with droopy eyelids and little interest, mechanically said:

"What would you like? Feel free to look around."

He focused on checking the accounts and didn't devote any extra energy to Zuo Ling.

Zuo Ling wasn't angry and took out the list of orders.

Upon seeing the order, the shop owner couldn't help but look up at Zuo Ling. Surprisingly, he hadn't realized she was such a big customer; he had thought Zuo Ling would only buy ten or eight bags at most.

10,000 jin of Northeast rice, 10,000 jin of wheat flour, 2,000 jin of glutinous rice, 2,000 jin each of large and small millet, 2,000 jin each of coarse and fine corn grits, 1,000 jin of black rice, 1,000 jin of purple rice, 500 jin of Job's tears, and 200 jin of white sorghum.

Rice and flour products, totaling a little over 16 jin (approximately 500 grams).

This amount of grain is nothing; the shop owner handles countless large orders, so it won't scare him.

To the shop owner's surprise, Zuo Ling was a first-time customer who gave him a pleasant surprise right away.

He secretly pondered Zuo Ling's identity, becoming much more cautious.

Zuo Ling doesn't have hundreds of millions in assets, so she doesn't dare to buy grain without a plan.

The total cost was over 12.3 million, with over 500,000 spent upfront.

Assuming she consumes one pound of grain per day, and she's 28 this year, even if she lives to be 100, she'll still be around.

Let's round it up to 70 years, that's a total of jin of grain.

In the end times, many checkpoints require food supplies, so Zuo Ling had to prepare more.

Oils in 5-liter containers: 200 barrels of soybean oil, 200 barrels of peanut oil, 200 barrels of sunflower oil, 200 barrels of corn oil, and 200 barrels of rapeseed oil. Must be pressed oils; blended oils are not acceptable.

Also, 50 bottles of olive oil, 750ml each.

Assuming one barrel of oil per month, that's 840 barrels over 70 years. Zuo Ling needs 1000 barrels, which is more than enough.

A rough calculation shows that, with this ratio of grain to oil, the cost of both is about the same.

10,000 jin each of soybeans, red beans, mung beans, and adzuki beans, and 5,000 jin of black beans.

Beans can sprout, and in the apocalypse, being able to eat bean sprouts is an extremely luxurious thing.

10,000 catties of peanuts, and 200 catties each of black and white sesame seeds.

While others struggle to get enough to eat, I can enjoy a delicious snack of fragrant roasted peanuts. Just thinking about it makes me incredibly happy.

Occasionally, I'll make a sesame seed and pepper flatbread. One bite and it's so crispy and delicious!

Licking her lips, Zuo Ling seemed to see herself in the apocalypse, eating and reveling in the moment.

Zuo Ling had no intention of remarrying; everything was calculated based on one person's needs. Surviving in this apocalyptic world is difficult enough; why make things harder for yourself and others?

While she was having her fun, the shopkeeper wasn't idle either.

"Young lady, I have everything you need. There are several kinds of rice and flour, each with a different taste. Let me introduce them to you, and you can see which one you choose. The prices vary quite a bit."

The shop owner was quite honest, clearly explaining the pros and cons of each item, which is worthy of a 30-year-old, reputable establishment.

Zuo Ling tried to choose the best options; life was tough in the apocalypse, and she didn't want to compromise her stomach's quality.

After calculating, Zuo Ling was surprised to find that the money spent on beans was equal to the total cost of grains and oils combined.

Upon closer examination, it makes sense. Beans can be used as a staple food, a vegetable, and can also be pressed for oil. They are versatile and therefore naturally more expensive.

The shopkeeper rounded down the price, bringing the total to 390,000 yuan, and also gave away two cans of peanut oil from Zuo Ling.

Zuo Ling paid quickly and readily.

The store said they could deliver it today.
