She returned unharmed, but Zuo Ling was not in a good mood.
The shooting location was too close to the residential area, which is mostly inhabited by wealthy and powerful people. It had been polar night for some time, and many households had night vision devices. Too many people saw them firing the gun.
Professor Jin and his wife also thought of this and were equally upset.
After the supplies were brought upstairs, Zuo Ling said to the two elders:
"Give me all the firearms in the house first. I'll find a place to hide them and return them to you after this is over."
The elderly couple readily agreed.
Although the outside world is in complete chaos, the public security department is still operating. The deep-seated reverence for the country's legal system can never be erased in a lifetime.
If the police come to your door and you have so many guns and ammunition hidden in your house, it will be evidence that could kill you.
After carrying everything upstairs, Zuo Ling was exhausted.
With the hot potato finally out of their hands, Professor Jin and his wife felt a great sense of relief, without even asking where Zuo Ling had hidden the item.
Hearing the noise, the waterfall rushed towards Zuo Ling, whimpering and asking Zuo Ling why she had abandoned it at home, saying it was very scared, did she know?
When she left, the little guy was sleeping. Afraid that it would be anxious if it woke up and couldn't see her, Zuo Ling left a light on for the little guy.
Patting the rabbit's head: "You were sleeping, so I didn't wake you up."
Waterfall sniffed; Zuo Ling smelled of gunpowder, which choked Rabbit, but Rabbit still leaned closer to Zuo Ling.
"Alright, you're back now, sweetie, go to sleep."
The waterfall didn't sleep; it tilted its head and stared at Zuo Ling, as if afraid that Zuo Ling would abandon it again.
"Okay, if you're not going to sleep, then take another shower with me."
It was freezing cold, and taking two showers a day made the waterfall very uncomfortable, but it didn't struggle and let Zuo Ling do as she pleased.
After taking a shower, I let out a big yawn, feeling so sleepy I could barely keep my eyes open.
The waterfall couldn't be left to Zuo Ling, so she had no choice but to sleep with the warm little one in her arms.
When I woke up, it was still dark.
Running, boxing, and playing tag and climbing games with the little one—working up a sweat and feeling refreshed.
Just as I was wondering what to have for breakfast, someone knocked on the door.
When the security company installed the door, Zuo Ling asked them to install a monitoring system and a small loudspeaker in the fire escape.
Press the call button: "What's up?"
The nightlight was on on the fire escape door, and Bai Hongwei and Lin Wang were standing outside.
The two waved and greeted each other, grinning slyly at the monitor.
"Could we come in and talk? We brought gifts."
Lin Wang held the object high and even made a circle around himself.
Two 5kg bags of premium rice, two cans of cooking oil, and a bunch of things like cured meat, dried vegetables, and canned goods.
In the apocalypse, sending food and oil supplies is just as valuable as sending gold bars in peacetime.
"It's inconvenient. Just say what you want to say and take your things back."
Zuo Ling was aloof; she carried a secret and didn't want to deal with people from the reclusive family.
Despite being met with indifference, Bai Hongwei remained good-natured, saying, "Could you come out for a moment? It's awkward for you to talk like that."
Bai Hongwei is the actual person in charge of Noah's Ark, and Zuo Ling doesn't want to offend him too much.
Five minutes later, he appeared before the two men with all the necessary protective gear except for not wearing a bulletproof helmet.
Bai Hongwei extended his hand: "Hello, let's get to know each other formally. My name is Bai Hongwei."
Lin Wang quickly followed: "My name is Lin Wang."
Zuo Ling shook hands perfunctorily, "Sure, what is it?"
Bai Hongwei smiled warmly: "I would like to ask you and Mr. and Mrs. Jin Jiaoyuan to help the community screen potential disaster victims."
By listening carefully to the implication, the mention of her and Professor Jin and his wife suggests that they were aware of what happened at the entrance of the residential complex.
Screening disaster victims? Why choose them? Just because they dare to shoot and kill?
Zuo Ling didn't speak, but the message in her eyes was clear.
“Screening disaster victims is also part of community work. It earns contribution points that can be exchanged for supplies. Professor Jin and his wife are highly respected, and you have a close friendship with them. We all agree that such an important task is best left to the three of you.”
Zuo Ling's mouth twitched. "Which eye of yours saw that such an important job is suitable for us?"
Lin Wang continued:
"The disaster victims have varying levels of education and skills, so we need to select those who are useful to the community and will not pose a threat. There are many tasks to be done, and the property management staff is short-staffed. We hope you can actively participate."
You're really good at talking. "Us"? Who's talking to you about "us"?
"Professor Jin agreed?"
Upon hearing that there was a chance, Bai Hongwei's eyes lit up:
"Agreed, agreed. Professor Jin and his wife are truly exemplary figures of high moral character. They agreed immediately when we mentioned it."
Zuo Ling: "..."
If you agree, you become a model of high moral character and prestige.
She disagrees, why?
Not sensing any hostility from the other party, Zuo Ling didn't want to cause any unpleasantness over such a small matter.
After a moment's hesitation, he accepted the task.
The two were very happy and insisted on leaving the gifts behind when they left.
"It's just a small token of our appreciation, please don't refuse it. If you don't accept it, how can we possibly come back again?"
It wasn't an excuse; she genuinely didn't need these things.
Besides, come to my door? What's the point of coming? It's best if you don't come at all!
I had just seen them off when Professor Jin called.
"Girl, they went to your house, didn't they? Did you agree to go?"
"Since you've already agreed, how can I refuse?"
There was a barely perceptible hint of resentment in Zuo Ling's voice.
Professor Jin chuckled twice:
“There aren’t many jobs suitable for my husband and me. Screening disaster victims doesn’t require much physical effort, and we can earn contribution points, which is a rare opportunity, so we agreed.”
Professor Jin's thinking was too simplistic. In reality, he found that screening people was also a headache.
