A piercing alarm blared, and a large searchlight suddenly shone in their direction.
Zuo Ling and Pei Nansheng quickly lay down.
Someone was shouting, "Sheep, sheep, come quick, lots of sheep!"
Where? Where is it?
"Outside, outside."
"Quick, quick, quick, don't let them get away, catch them quickly, catch them quickly."
"..."
A jumble of voices and footsteps filled the base.
The sheep, just awakened from their slumber, were terrified by the piercing alarm and scattered in all directions.
They ran a few steps into the darkness, unable to see the ground clearly, and fell several times. They got up and ran back towards the light.
Several people in military uniforms and carrying guns ran out of the gate.
When Zuo Ling took a look, she was surprised to see that not only were they dressed the same as them, but even their large masks were exactly the same.
Taking advantage of the chaos, the two mingled with the sheep herders.
Seeing the sheep gathered together, Zuo Ling shot two darts into the sheep pile. The sheep were in pain and ran around in fear.
Pei Nansheng and Zuo Ling had already approached the gate. Taking advantage of everyone's attention being on the sheep, they each grabbed a sheep and slipped into the base.
Someone above shouted happily:
"Hey, caught two! Haha, we'll have mutton to eat! We'll roast mutton and have hot pot later. It's been so long since I've had fresh mutton."
"Tell the kitchen to get ready; we'll have a few drinks later."
"Okay." Many responded.
Pei Nansheng raised his hand to indicate that the idea was good.
As they were talking, more sheep were driven in one after another, and many people ran out to see what was going on.
Some people became suspicious. In temperatures of minus seventy degrees Celsius, even rats, which have a high reproductive rate, have disappeared. Where did these sheep come from?
But the Ding family is powerful, and the entire Shu Province is their territory. Who would dare to disturb the Ding family's land?
Having lived in a position of power for too long, their vigilance has diminished by more than half, with the remaining half being devoted to their appetites. Surprisingly, not a single person voiced their doubts.
Pei Nansheng and Zuo Ling silently withdrew from the crowd and headed towards the place where the airplane was located.
There were more than twenty aircraft parked on the tarmac, including gliders and helicopters. Zuo Ling didn't recognize most of them, but she did recognize one model: the NH90 helicopter.
Zuo Ling quickly ran to the inside of the tarmac and retrieved three aircraft.
Pei Nansheng gestured for her to run towards the plane closest to the roadside. Everyone in the base was focused on the sheep, and no one was looking in their direction.
Zuo Ling then collected another airplane and ran towards Pei Nansheng.
Pei Nansheng started the plane, and Zuo Ling had just sat down when a roar arose, and the huge propellers whipped up a biting cold wind.
People who were discussing how to eat sheep looked in surprise toward the roaring sound. The plane was taxiing and rushing toward the crowd without regard for anything else, and screams erupted.
Someone shouted, "Someone has sneaked in! Stop them! Stop them quickly!"
"Quick, quick, quick! Someone's stealing the plane! Don't let them get away!"
There were people catching sheep outside, and the gate was not closed.
The sheep, which had just been calmed down, panicked and huddled together, their bleating sending chills down one's spine.
Zuo Ling craned her neck, looking at the 'fresh meat' below with a face full of regret. My 'fresh meat'! It was all bought with money, and now it's being given away to someone else so cheaply...
Pei Nansheng roared, "Fasten your seatbelts!"
Zuo Ling muttered to herself, enduring the pain as she fastened her seatbelt.
The base personnel frantically raised their weapons, trying to shoot the plane down, but it was too late.
In the blink of an eye, everyone watched as the plane glided into the sky.
Zuo Ling laughed heartily, "Bye-bye, dear Ding family."
Once out of danger, Zuo Ling counted on her fingers how many sheep she had lost, and the more she counted, the more heartbroken she became.
Twenty live sheep! Live sheep! All fresh meat!
After flying for more than half an hour, Pei Nansheng landed in a gentle river valley.
