A few minutes later, the two arrived at the village clinic.
The clinic was small, with two rooms: a consultation room and a room for storing medicines and miscellaneous items.
Ding Xiaoya, the granddaughter of the second uncle, is the only resident doctor at the village clinic.
Upon seeing Pei Nansheng, Ding Xiaoya was overjoyed: "Brother Pei, when did you get back? Oh dear, what happened to you?"
She looked behind Pei Nansheng but didn't see Ding Jiaojiao. Instead, she saw a girl with an unfamiliar face.
"Where's Sister Jiaojiao? Didn't she come with you? She must be your uncle's daughter who lives away from home."
Ding Xiaoya is petite and cute, with a lively and cheerful personality, and is very talkative.
In her past life, Ding Jiaojiao intentionally or unintentionally prevented Zuo Ling from making friends, so Zuo Ling didn't have much contact with Ding Xiaoya.
"Her name is Zuo Ling. Your sister Jiao Jiao has gone missing."
Ding Xiaoya's eyes widened: "Disappeared? What happened?"
Pei Nansheng repeated what he had told Ding Fengguo and the others to Ding Xiaoya.
Ding Xiaoya asked worriedly, "Brother Pei, it must be dangerous outside. Will we be able to find Sister Jiaojiao?"
Pei Nansheng didn't want to answer, so he changed the subject, saying, "Get me some ointment for my wounds. You're about to get off work, right?"
"Oh, okay, okay, okay, Brother Pei, where are you hurt? Is it serious?"
Ding Xiaoya liked Pei Nansheng very much and was extremely attentive to him.
"It's not serious, some medicine will do the trick, I can handle it myself, it won't keep you from getting off work."
"It's alright, I'll be fine when I get home."
Ding Xiaoya turned to Zuo Ling: "Sister, are you injured too? Do you need me to take a look?"
Pei Nansheng gave Zuo Ling a wink.
Zuo Ling pulled up her sleeve. "The abrasions on my arm are more serious, but the rest are fine."
To gain the trust of the Ding family, Zuo Ling's arm injury looked quite frightening.
Ding Xiaoya took a deep breath: "Oh, it's such a big spot. It won't look good if it leaves a scar. Let me put some medicine on it for you first."
Ding Xiaoya bent down to treat Zuo Ling's wound.
Zuo Ling glanced at Pei Nansheng out of the corner of her eye and saw that Pei Nansheng stayed at the window monitoring point for a moment before leaving.
After treating the wounds and taking two bottles of external medicine, the two chatted for a while before saying goodbye to Ding Xiaoya and leaving.
Ding Xiaoya said with a smile, "Sister Zuo, come visit me when you have time. It's so boring for me to be alone."
"Okay, I'll come visit you whenever I have time."
"Sister, you keep your word."
Ding Xiaoya couldn't connect with the girls in the village, and being a lively person, she was very bored staying in the clinic every day.
Since a lady had finally come, I naturally didn't want to miss the opportunity.
"Okay, definitely." Zuo Ling replied absentmindedly.
She had a good impression of Ding Xiaoya, but unfortunately, Ding Xiaoya was there for revenge, not to make friends.
Pei Nansheng led Zuo Ling to his simple second-floor room.
Downstairs was the village committee, and upstairs there was a row of more than a dozen rooms. Pei Nansheng's room was at the far east end, and Zuo Ling was given the empty room next to him.
The house is all white, the decoration couldn't be simpler.
No one lived there; the house was like an icebox, with thick frost covering the windows.
All the furnishings in the house, including a single bed, a desk, a chair, a wardrobe, and a shared bathroom.
Houses in Sichuan don't have as thick walls as those in the north, and locals don't have the habit of lighting fires for warmth inside. The temperature inside and outside is the same, so cold that it hurts to the bone.
Zuo Ling sighed. Living here, the Ding family probably intended for them to freeze to death.
She really wronged the Ding family.
Apart from a few powerful figures such as the head of the family and elders who have quotas for starting fires to keep warm, others who want to stay warm have to find their own way.
More than twenty members of the Ding family, young and old, have succumbed to the extreme cold and frozen to death.
Judging from their living arrangements alone, the Ding family treated Pei Nansheng as a staff member, not as one of their own. No wonder Pei Nansheng wanted to destroy the Ding family.
Now, I've joined the ranks of the Ding family's staff.
Zuo Ling laughed self-deprecatingly. In her previous life, her living conditions at the Ding family's house were much better than here, but so what? She was still tied to the operating table.
The door wasn't closed, and Pei Nansheng came in carrying a basin of water:
"There's no hot water, so just make do with this shower. Dinner will be served soon. I'll get you a set of bedding later."
Zuo Ling watched helplessly as the water in the basin froze. She breathed on it, creating a white mist, smacked her lips, and tried to wash her face with the ice water, but it froze solid.
Zuo Ling remained silent, her refusal quite clear.
Pei Nansheng said:
“Your arrival has angered the head of the Ding family. And since it’s not the spatial ability they want, it’s naturally not the same as before. Just make do with it.”
Zuo Ling curled her lip and said nonchalantly, "When I was in Kyoto, I even lived in a basement. This place is much better than a basement."
She wasn't there for the Ding family's superior conditions, so this little bit of attitude is nothing to her.
Pei Nansheng patted Zuo Ling reassuringly, sighed softly, and went out.
The simple furnishings have their advantages; everything is clear at a glance, and there's nowhere to hide cameras.
After locking the door, Zuo Ling entered the room and took a comfortable hot shower.
Pei Nansheng brought the water; let him use it himself.
I hadn't showered for several days because of acting, and my hair was incredibly greasy. I endured it with great difficulty.
As soon as the waterfall saw Zuo Ling enter the space, it rushed over and pounced on Zuo Ling.
"Not now. Go play with your underlings. I'm busy right now."
The waterfall was dissatisfied, and the little paw patted Zuo Ling's foot, "When can I get out? Staying here is so boring."
Rub the rabbit's head:
"You, you don't know how lucky you are. Nothing outside is as good as this space. Here there are mountains, water, and grasslands. Outside it's pitch black and freezing cold. What's so good about it?"
