Liu Kandao brought a fair scale. He said he would exchange 200 grams of compressed biscuits for 100 grams of gold, and he wouldn't give up even a single gram.
Zuo Ling gave her a whole box of unopened compressed biscuits, which she bought at the Xinfa Market. She didn't know if they were missing any weight.
After weighing, it was exactly one gram, and even a little too much.
You inspect compressed biscuits, I inspect gold, scissors, and blowtorches—I inspect them more thoroughly than Liu Kandao.
Not bad, Liu Kandao didn't try anything fancy.
Zuo Ling wasn't one to haggle; she treated the extra as a gift.
Liu Kandao's face lit up with joy: "Miss, if it's convenient, could you exchange a few more boxes for me in a few days?"
In a post-apocalyptic world where people can't even get enough to eat, how could someone raise two little beasts to be so well-fed and healthy?
Liu Kandao was a shrewd businessman; he didn't believe Zuo Ling could only produce two boxes of compressed biscuits.
Zuo Ling hesitated. There were plenty of compressed biscuits, so there was no point in keeping them. She might as well exchange them for gold. After the apocalypse, she would still be rich!
Pei Nansheng interjected, "The transaction will still take place here three days from now."
"Okay, okay, okay, see you in three days, see you in three days."
Liu Kandao bowed and scraped as he left.
Zuo Ling was puzzled; they hadn't planned to stay in Anshi for three days.
Pei Nansheng said:
"People's hearts are unpredictable. If we tell him now that we won't be staying in Anshi for long, do you think he might rob us?"
"Cunning and treacherous!"
Pei Nansheng retorted, "I'm only two years older than you, how am I old?"
The group strolled around, stopping frequently, and unknowingly wandered into what used to be an antique street.
If it weren't for seeing a shop sign, Zuo Ling would hardly have recognized that this used to be a bustling antique street.
The house was mostly destroyed, and the remaining part was also dilapidated.
Many people set up stalls on the street, selling antiques and jade artifacts everywhere, but business was generally slow. When they saw Zuo Ling and her group coming over, they all shouted to attract customers.
Zuo Ling walked away feeling regretful. Apart from recognizing energy crystals, she knew nothing about jade and antiques. Even if she wanted to exchange them, she didn't have the expertise.
The waterfall pointed its little paw in a certain direction. Zuo Ling looked in that direction. The little guy had good eyesight. On that jade stall, there were two energy crystals, one red and one purple. The quality wasn't great, but the level was high.
Zuo Ling turned her eyes away expressionlessly.
Pei Nansheng also noticed, but pretended not to see it and continued shopping as if nothing had happened.
The waterfall looked puzzled and patted Zuo Ling with its little paw. "Didn't you want that? Why didn't you buy it?"
Zuo Ling couldn't explain to the waterfall, so she stroked the little guy's fur. The little guy then pointed to a stall at the end of the street.
One orange and one green, both energy crystals.
Pei Nansheng leaned close to Zuo Ling and whispered, "There are two people at each end of the street, watching those two stalls."
Zuo Ling sneered. The Jin family was still up to no good and was still playing this trick.
Seeing that Zuo Ling remained unmoved, the waterfall, being a protective creature, pointed to the crystal, saying, "Why don't you want that?"
"Honey, that's a bad person's, you can't take it."
The waterfall is confusing; it belongs to a bad person. Why can't we take it?
Finding a slightly drier spot, Zuo Ling laid out a tarpaulin, used the large bread for cover, and set up her stall with some toiletries, moisturizers, hand creams, face masks, and other items.
Xiao Hao blinked his big eyes, his mind full of questions: "Sister, do we sell things too?"
The little one is very sensitive. Is there a shortage of supplies at home? Should he eat less? We only changed his things, but his older siblings didn't change anything. There must be a shortage of supplies.
Looking worried, she offered to help Zuo Ling set up her stall, and when someone walked by, she was very sweet-talking:
"Uncle, come and take a look at my stall. See if there's anything you need. The price is negotiable."
The snowy night chimed in from the sidelines: Woof, woof, woof.
"Pretty auntie, would you like some face cream? No, how about a face mask?"
The pretty lady stopped in her tracks, and Xiao Hao quickly started promoting his product:
"Look how good my sister's skin is! She uses our face masks. Auntie is pretty, so if she uses these, her skin will definitely be even better than my sister's."
The pretty aunt was very pleased with herself. After some deliberation, she used two bundles of noodles to exchange for two face creams and 40 face masks.
Zuo Ling: "..."
Who taught this little guy to be so glib? It must be his father's genes showing up in Xiao Hao.
Hmph, that's not a good sign!
"Grandma, come and take a look at my stall, I'm sure you'll find something you need."
...
Zuo Ling didn't say a word, but Xiao Hao kept talking non-stop.
He's small, sweet-talking, and cute, so many people stop to see if he's interested.
In no time, they returned with four bundles of noodles, two bottles of vinegar, a bottle of sesame oil, and a bottle of chili oil.
The little guy is not only sweet-talking, but also a good bargainer; he never suffers a loss.
Zuo Ling stared in disbelief and whispered to Pei Nansheng, "Who taught him?"
Pei Nansheng shook his head: "It's not me, I don't have his talent."
Zuo Ling chuckled: "Looks like we'll have to rely on him to support us in the future."
Pei Nansheng nodded seriously: "More or less."
As they were talking, Pei Nansheng glanced at a certain spot out of the corner of his eye and said in a low voice, "Wait for me to come back."
As soon as she finished speaking, she darted out. Xue Ye tried to follow, but Zuo Ling grabbed her and held her down.
Xiao Hao wondered where his brother had gone. Zuo Ling gave him a reassuring smile, and Xiao Hao grinned before turning back to his little business as a vendor.
Without Pei Nansheng to keep things in check, a woman setting up a stall with a toddler of a few years old quickly attracted the attention of those who were interested.
Seven or eight shady-looking young men were picking and choosing items at the stall, stuffing them directly into their large bags.
Xiao Hao held one of them down and said urgently, "You haven't exchanged your things with me yet."
They stopped what they were doing and let out a malicious laugh.
