Pointing to Zuo Ling, who was working diligently between the fields, He Guiqi instructed the young soldiers under his command:
"Take a good look, ah, take a good look. Sister Zuo was invited here by a high-ranking leader of our military region on a special plane. Look at her, she has no airs at all and does everything herself. How can you slack off? Get back to work!"
He kicked each of them in the butt, saying, "Whoever slacks off, I'll teach them a lesson."
In a short period of time, He Guiqi had already gained some official influence.
After scolding the young soldier, he scurried over to Zuo Ling, his face beaming with a fawning smile:
"How can I let my sister do such a low-skilled job? Please guide me, let me do it."
The young soldiers' eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, and they frantically cursed, "Sycophant! Sycophant!! Sycophant!!!"
The vegetable garden changes every day, and the tender seedlings attract many visitors.
Zhao Hongyi would come and stroll around every morning and evening, so hungry that he wished he could force the seedlings to grow quickly so that they could become a delicious dish on the table.
He boasted that he would reward everyone involved in the planting team handsomely when the first batch of vegetables was harvested.
The hefty reward he mentioned was points added to his redemption card.
With points, the soldiers could exchange them for the supplies they needed at the supply depot, which made the soldiers in the planting company extremely excited.
Having not seen Zhao Hongyi, Zuo Ling had almost forgotten about the 200 bullets.
"Bullets." Zuo Ling reached out to Zhao Hongyi.
Zhao Hongyi had long forgotten about the bullets. "Look how stingy you are. It's just 200 bullets."
Zuo Ling snorted, "Is 200 bullets a small matter? If it's a small matter, why don't you hurry up and bring them to me?"
"Okay, okay, okay, I'll bring it over to you in a bit."
Zhao Hongyi didn't mean to renege on his debt; he was just too busy and genuinely forgot.
Before noon, someone delivered the bullets.
Having passed the critical period for the seedlings, Zuo Ling planned to go out with Pei Nansheng to get some items to exchange for points. If they didn't hurry, who knew when the next natural disaster would strike?
After leaving three large bottles of space well water for He Guiqi, they said goodbye to Researcher Tang, and the three of them and two beasts left the military camp one after the other in a van and a pickup truck.
She planned to stay away for three days, just to make a show of it, and then come back.
The family deliberately went to remote places, away from the military camp. Pei Nansheng let Xiao Hao sit in the driver's seat and taught him how to drive.
Time waits for no one, we can't delay any longer.
Pei Nansheng had planned to teach Xiao Hao when he was older, but the unexpected arrival of Chief Mei and Zhao Hongyi caught him off guard.
Teach Xiaohao some practical skills so that he can protect himself and help others in times of crisis.
Xiao Hao doesn't think he's a child. If you dare to teach him, he dares to learn.
Children learn things very quickly; once they grasp the essentials, they can drive very well after just a few hours.
The land was barren and sparsely populated, making it a natural driving practice ground, where Xiao Hao drove his car with ease.
At the hottest time of day, the family found an abandoned gas station and took a break.
Having just learned a new skill, Xiao Hao was overjoyed and kept chattering away.
This made the dog spin around in circles, extremely excited.
The waterfall leaned lazily against Zuo Ling, its rabbit-like face showing disdain. "It's so hot, can't you even take a break?"
The three people and two animals shared three iced watermelons to cool off. Back in the military camp, they were afraid of being caught eating watermelons, so they acted like thieves.
After eating the watermelon, each person ate a few vegetable dumplings to fill their stomach.
After resting until the temperature wasn't so high, we continued our journey. In the evening, we arrived at the foot of a mountain and could faintly hear the sound of rushing water.
The waterfall, which had been languishing all day, suddenly perked up, jumped out of its backpack, and ran up the mountain to play.
Xiao Hao and Xue Ye chased after them, howling.
Pei Nansheng and Zuo Ling parked the car and prepared their dinner.
Zuo Ling wanted to eat barbecue, even though the weather was a bit hot, she just wanted to eat it.
Since buying the six famous sheep, I haven't eaten a single one yet, but I brought out a Hengshan goat.
"Brother, do you know how to skin a sheep?"
When Pei Nansheng stole the Ding family's plane, he learned that there were live sheep in Zuo Ling's space; he had never seen dead ones before.
"Probably...yes."
Pei Nansheng deliberately whetted Zuo Ling's appetite; if his sister wanted to eat it, she had to learn how, even if she didn't know how.
Zuo Ling took out the stainless steel baking table and had Pei Nansheng peel the pastries on it.
She then set the table, washed some fruit, and prepared a few cold dishes to enrich the variety of food.
Pei Nansheng peeled the sheepskin quickly and skillfully, clearly showing he was no novice.
Remove the tendons and membranes, cut the mutton into pieces, and wash it inside and out several times.
The internal organs were placed in a large basin and will be processed when water is readily available.
Pei Nansheng's barbecue method is different from others. He first puts scallions, ginger, and cooking wine in a wood-fired pot to boil and remove the blood foam. Then he changes the water, adds braising spices, and cooks the mutton until it is half-cooked. He then skewers it, dips it in seasonings, and grills it over the fire.
Zuo Ling preferred Pei Nansheng's method; the mutton was too gamey, and this way of cooking it suited her taste better.
The dog barked, and the child shouted, "Waterfall, run, run, go find your older brother and sister!"
Pei Nansheng and Zuo Ling got up at the same time, and Pei Nansheng rushed out before Zuo Ling.
Most of the food was on the pastry counter. Zuo Ling casually tidied up the counter and table, leaving the mutton roasting over the fire unattended.
Following behind Pei Nansheng, they caught up but didn't see Xiao Hao. Instead, they saw the waterfall, which was fleeing in a disheveled state. The waterfall jumped onto Zuo Ling in a panic.
When Zuo Ling arrived at the scene, the two sides were facing off.
On one side, there was a large and a small beast; on the other side, there were more than twenty villagers holding wooden sticks, shovels, and pitchforks.
The villagers had sallow skin, sunken faces, bulging eyes, and were as thin as ghosts.
Xiao Hao's clothes were torn and he was dirty. He must have gotten into a fight with the villagers. If Pei Nansheng hadn't arrived in time, he would definitely have been at a disadvantage.
