Having obtained the submarine, Zuo Ling felt much more at ease.
As the vegetable and grain gardens were replanted one after another, Zuo Ling secretly took out some grain and vegetable seeds, grateful that Chief Mei had not upset her about the submarine incident. She didn't dare to take too much, and only replanted about one or two acres of land.
Zuo Ling has been busy with the base's vegetable and grain gardens, and hasn't had time to grow her own small vegetable garden.
After sorting things out, Zuo Ling made use of her small courtyard and planted fewer vegetables.
Pei Nansheng found an open space near the vegetable garden to train, and rarely took Xiao Hao out of the base anymore.
The people in the planting company got to know the two brothers well, and in their spare time they often liked to come and watch them train. When they were in the mood, they would even play a few rounds together.
Their skills are so bad that, let alone compared to Pei Nansheng, even Xiao Hao is a match for most people.
Xiao Hao was very excited. He had no idea how powerful he was! Even the older brothers and uncles in the planting team couldn't beat him.
He was always laughing and snoring, never stopping, and didn't even want to study anymore, which prompted Professor Jin to come and complain to him.
Zuo Ling's face darkened: "My sister didn't study much and suffered a lot. Do you want to be like her?"
Xiao Hao blinked his eyes. His sister was living such a carefree life. How could she have suffered?
"Okay, you don't have to study. Skip the fruit and pastries, eat vegetarian meals for all three meals. No dry food, just porridge. Don't even think about meat. Only people who overuse their brains need to supplement their diet with meat."
Xiao Hao is at a rebellious age and won't listen to reason, so Zuo Ling directly resorts to high-pressure tactics.
The two humans and two animals accompanied Xiao Hao for more than a week on a diet of bland, watery soup. The porridge was so thin that the bottom could be seen, and the only vegetables were pickled vegetables, and there were hardly any of them.
The two little ones knew that Xiao Hao was the one who was making them go hungry. Waterfall would roll its eyes at Xiao Hao from time to time, and would jump on Xiao Hao and stomp on him with its little paws.
Xueye, who usually clung to Xiaohao the most, was not clinging to him at all. She leaned weakly against Pei Nansheng's legs, sticking out half of her tongue and looking at her little master with a mournful expression.
Xiao Hao asked his older brother for help, but Pei Nansheng ignored him with a stern face. He thought that Xiao Hao had been living too well with Zuo Ling and had become complacent. It was time to discipline him properly.
Xiao Hao had no choice but to give in, but Zuo Ling remained cold-faced.
"Many adults can't beat you, and they think they've become capable and don't want to listen to us anymore. Why don't you go out and make a living on your own? With your skills, ordinary people are no match for you, and you can easily save your life. Raising you and teaching you is the responsibility of your biological parents, not mine and your brother's. We've done right by raising you all these years. Pack your bags and get out of here."
Zuo Ling and Pei Nansheng had never had a child and didn't know how to educate Xiao Hao. They didn't expect Xiao Hao to be exceptionally good, but he couldn't just know violence and killing.
During this extraordinary time, being able to learn from a great professor is such a blessing. Xiao Hao doesn't appreciate it, and Zuo Ling is truly angry.
Because of the age difference, in Xiao Hao's mind, his older brother and sister are no different from his biological parents.
When his older sister suddenly kicked him out of the house, Xiao Hao felt like the sky had fallen, and he cried miserably.
"Sister, I was wrong. I will learn from Grandpa Jin from now on. Please don't abandon me."
When he was with his older sister, Xiao Hao was already old enough to remember things. He never wanted to live a life of hunger and cold again.
So many capable adults couldn't survive in the apocalypse, and he was just a child. Even if he had some skills, without the protection of his older brothers and sisters, where would he find a way to survive?
Xiao Hao's older sister usually seems to have a smile on her face and always grants his requests, but he knows that his sister is the hardest-hearted person in the family. His brother may seem unapproachable, but he actually has the softest heart.
Zuo Ling wasn't good at reasoning, and she knew it was inappropriate to force Xiao Hao to submit, but she didn't have a good solution.
As long as Xiao Hao is willing to back down and learn properly from Professor Jin, he will be the one who gains knowledge and will eventually understand her good intentions.
Xiao Hao lowered his head, but the family's meals didn't change much; the thin porridge became drier, and they were no longer hungry.
There was no sign of fruit or pastries. Knowing that his sister was really angry, Xiao Hao didn't dare to express his dissatisfaction. He obediently followed Professor Jin's instructions and dared not cause any more trouble.
Zuo Ling only lifted the ban after Professor Jin praised Xiao Hao for being well-behaved and learning well.
The heat persisted, and the days slipped by uneventfully.
After two harvests of vegetables from the garden, everyone could finally relax a little.
One day, the whole family was taking a nap at home when they heard screams and cries outside.
Zuo Ling suddenly stood up; outside the window, everything was a blood-red mess.
Xiao Hao shouted, "Brother, sister, it's raining blood outside! It's raining hot blood!"
Blood rained down, and layers of smoke rose from the small vegetable garden, as if blood were boiling.
The rice seedlings soaked in the bloody rain turned scorched red in the blink of an eye, and the seedlings on the higher up were pierced with bloody holes.
It's acid rain, red acid rain!
Oh no! The sweet potatoes and potatoes in the grain field are almost ripe.
Someone in the neighboring plantation was shouting, "Come back quickly, come back quickly..." and there was also a howling sound that sounded like a human but was actually a ghost.
The blood rain lasted for more than ten minutes before gradually stopping.
Zuo Ling's house has acid-resistant tempered glass on the roof, so it is not afraid of corrosion.
Professor Jin's house was in trouble, so Zuo Ling asked Pei Nansheng to help Professor Jin, while Xiao Hao, Xue Ye, and the waterfall guarded the house.
She then put on acid-proof clothing and acid-proof boots and went to the plantation.
The plantation was a blood-red muddy mess, silent and still. Vegetable and grain seedlings lay crooked and withered, soaking in the blood.
Yu Lianhai and the soldiers of the planting company stood blankly in the fields, their bodies and faces bearing burn marks to varying degrees.
The most severely burned was Yu Lianhai; it was impossible to tell whether the burns on his body and face were from acid rain or his own blood.
When Zuo Ling arrived, He Guiqi did not greet her with a smile as usual. His eyes reddened, and he grinned as if he was about to cry.
Zuo Ling brought some ointments for treating burns, scalds, and scar removal, but she didn't know which ones would work. After leaving some iodine and disinfectant, she quietly left.
