Chapter 24 There's Where They Go

Officer Qin observed Zuo Ling's expression discreetly.

Seeing that the two had stopped talking, he said, "Would it be convenient for me to take a look at your warehouse?"

Zuo Ling opened the courtyard gate wide and gestured for people to come in: "It's convenient, please come in."

Upon entering the warehouse, one is greeted by neatly arranged honeycomb briquettes.

Officer Qin scoffed, "So much coal."

"Ah, I heard this winter will be cold, so I'll stock up on more. That way, coal prices will be high and it won't be easy to buy it in winter."

Officer Qin neither confirmed nor denied the question.

"Where does the young lady work?"

As he walked, he asked questions and saw dozens of water towers, which he touched.

"I just resigned and plan to start a small business."

"Oh, what kind of business are you doing? Have you found a good location yet?"

Officer Qin seemed very interested.

"We're still looking at locations for the snacks."

"..."

Officer Qin asked a bunch of other questions, jumping from one topic to another, leaving everyone confused.

Zuo Ling answered cautiously, revealing nothing.

The young police officer accompanying him looked around, not missing a single corner.

After the tour, the three said their goodbyes.

After closing the courtyard gate, Zuo Ling breathed a long sigh of relief.

After walking a distance, the village chief said to Officer Qin:

"Old Qin, I'm sorry to trouble you. Lin Dacheng's wife is crying and begging me to help her find a man. Don't laugh at me, but I'd love for him to die out there."

Over the years, that brat has caused me a lot of trouble. Renting out the village warehouse brings in some income, and the villagers benefit a bit more. But that rascal is always eyeing the warehouse, stealing this and that.

It's gotten to the point where not many people can rent long-term. Sigh, if I really die out there, I'll finally have some peace and quiet.

Officer Qin listened to his complaints expressionlessly, then suddenly said:

"Lin Dacheng's family can go to the police station to formally report the case. If they don't, we can't get involved. Out of respect for you, I'm letting you borrow this uniform to walk around here, but that's not in accordance with our rules."

The village chief quickly said:

"I know, I know, thank you for your trouble, Officer Qin. Sigh, they don't deserve to waste police resources..."

Young police officer interface:

"It's easy. We'll get Lin Dacheng's family to confess honestly. They'll tell us who they offended, how much stuff they stole, and to hand it all over or return it to its rightful owners. If the owner suffered serious losses, they'll have to compensate them accordingly. This will also provide us with clues. However, she's suspected of harboring stolen goods, so according to the law, the punishment could be lenient or severe."

village head:"……"

I understand. Da Cheng's family isn't afraid of getting themselves arrested and losing their life savings, so let's just handle this officially.

Da Cheng's wife is just like Da Cheng; what good could she be? She only takes advantage of others; she has no reason to give anything away.

If you scare them, they'll definitely stop causing trouble for their own benefit.

That's a great idea!

Officer Qin glared at the young officer, his eyes filled with reproach, but he didn't argue back.

Having worked in the police force for many years, he was unwilling to waste his time on scumbags.

However, whether one is willing or not is one thing, and the responsibility of being a people's police officer is another.

Xiao He had just graduated from police academy and hadn't experienced the harsh realities of society. He was outspoken and dared to say anything.

Seeing his boss glare at him, Xiao He scratched the back of his head.

Isn't that right? I'm an outstanding graduate of the police academy, after all. I don't want to waste my energy running around for scumbags.

"Understood, understood. I'll go talk to Da Cheng's family right away and see what their plan is."

After parting ways with the village chief, Officer Qin looked serious:

"Xiao He, don't forget you're a people's police officer. The people's interests come first. Whether it's murder or arson, as long as someone reports a crime, you have to follow the rules and regulations. You can't judge right and wrong based on personal likes or dislikes. Your kind of thinking is dangerous, do you understand?"

Xiao He was indignant, but on the surface he was sincere: "Chief, I know I was wrong, and I will never dare to do it again."

Officer Qin turned around with his hands behind his back and said nothing more.

Having led troops for many years, he had seen many young men like Xiao He.

A small gesture is enough to tell what the other person is thinking.

Young people today are different from those back then.

They have innovative ideas and unique insights.

I can't stand their fallacies, but what's infuriating is that sometimes I feel they make some sense.

He didn't want to argue with young people, fearing they would lead him astray.

The car drove for a while.

Officer Qin suddenly asked Xiao He:

"Don't you find it suspicious that a young woman would dare to rent a warehouse without security cameras? I heard she buys a lot of goods. Isn't she afraid of being robbed?"

Xiao He's eyes widened: "You suspect that woman? How could someone as small as her handle three big men?"

A sharp glint flashed in Officer Qin's eyes: "With such a large volume of goods, she must have accomplices."

Xiao He straightened up: "Does the director mean... to investigate her?"

He had no connections and was able to stay in Kyoto only because of his excellent academic performance.

My dream is to become a criminal investigation police officer; I don't want to deal with trivial family matters or mother-in-law affairs.

I was frustrated for a long time because of this.

Given the opportunity to try his skills and achieve great things, Xiao He's fighting spirit was ignited.

After a moment of contemplation, Officer Qin shook his head slightly:

"Let's see if they report it or not. Our station is only responsible for the security of the area. For investigations, we have to report to the municipal bureau."

Xiao He was discouraged and reported it to the Municipal Public Security Bureau! He reported it to the Municipal Public Security Bureau again!!

Officer Qin glanced at him sideways: "What, is the station treating you badly? You really want to go to the Criminal Investigation Brigade?"

Xiao He pouted: "How could I dare to feel wronged? I'm already so grateful that I can stay in Kyoto."

Officer Qin smiled kindly: "You still say you're not wronged? Your mouth could hold an oil lamp."

Xiao He turned his face away and didn't say a word.

After teasing Xiao He for a while, Officer Qin was thinking about Zuo Ling's warehouse.
