With a loud thud, everyone's expression changed.
Guo Qi took off running outside, and Zuo Ling's family chased after him.
Upon reaching the top of the cliff, they saw a medium-sized warship from the Rose Kingdom anchored on the distant shore, its several dark cannons pointing directly towards Chinatown.
A person was holding a megaphone and talking non-stop.
"What did he say?"
The villagers volunteered to act as translators: "He said the cargo ship belonged to them and that we should hand over the ship and the goods on board."
Zuo Ling snorted, "I fished it out, why should I give it to you? You're dreaming!"
Looking around, they saw rows of gun bolts being pulled back on the cliffs, and the villagers were glaring angrily at the warships in the distance.
His lips twitched involuntarily. A gun barrel fighting against a naval cannon? How could that possibly win?
Although she couldn't win, Zuo Ling was still quite satisfied with the villagers' performance.
When faced with a challenge, the fear of backing down diminishes one's momentum by more than half, turning a good thing into a bad one.
"He said he'd give us an hour to think it over, and if we didn't hand it over, he'd bomb us all to death."
Zuo Ling chuckled mockingly, "Ha, blast us to death..."
On the warship, several people stood under parasols, while the officer in the middle sat, wearing white gloves and holding a coffee cup. Judging by his demeanor, he was of high rank.
The gentlemanly demeanor of Western men is something that Easterners can't learn. In terms of temperament alone, they are far inferior.
Don't be resentful; even if you are, they still won.
Zuo Ling reached out and made a gesture of pulling back.
The people on the warship suddenly felt a tremendous force pulling at their chests. Before they could react, they were already on the cliff.
The same postures the men were in on the warship remained the same on the cliff.
Everyone else was fine, but the officer remained seated, still holding a full cup of coffee, steaming hot.
He glanced at his feet, then looked back at the warship in the distance, and in a panic, he fell to the ground with a thud, spilling coffee all over himself.
The other officers were terrified. Good heavens, what happened? How did they get here?
A chorus of exclamations erupted both above and below the cliff.
Pei Nansheng and Xiao Hao reacted quickly. Pei Nansheng had two guns in his hands, one of which was pointed at the temple of one of the men.
Xiao Hao wasn't as tall as his older brother, so he had to settle for being as tall as his brother's waist.
The remaining man was about to draw his gun when he was simultaneously subdued by the villagers who were a beat too slow to react.
Zuo Ling glanced sideways at the villager who was acting as a translator. The man was startled by Zuo Ling's cold gaze. Everyone else's attention was on the warship, but he was the only one who saw Zuo Ling make a dragging motion.
Just as she was about to speak, she remembered something, covered her mouth in terror, and shook her head violently, as if to say, "I didn't see anything, please don't kill me."
Seeing that he was quite clever, Zuo Ling snorted and ignored him.
She wasn't sure she could succeed from that distance, but she was just trying. She succeeded, but she was dizzy for a moment.
He glanced at the group, frowned, and said, "They're too tall. I don't like talking with my head tilted back."
The group of men, averaging 1.9 meters tall and dressed in naval uniforms, exuded an imposing presence, making the villagers, dressed in tattered clothes, look as if they had been dug out of a pile of dirt.
Pei Nansheng grabbed his superior officer and kicked him in the back of the knee.
The villagers followed suit, each one kicking several people to make them kneel down.
Zuo Ling glanced at the coffee cup that had shattered into several pieces, clicked her tongue twice, and thought, "What a pity, what a waste!"
The soldiers of the Rose Kingdom were dumbfounded. Good heavens, how did their officers get up to the cliff?
When they saw their superior being forced to kneel, it was as if they had been greatly humiliated. They all clenched their fists in hatred, some pulling the trigger, others setting up their cannons.
"Bastards, you're disrespecting our superiors, I'll kill you all."
“Bastards, get your paws off me.”
"Get your weapons and get them."
...
The officer remained relatively calm, staring at Zuo Ling as he spoke a long string of words.
"What did he say?"
The translator squeezed in, saying, "The gist is: A scholar can be killed but not humiliated."
Zuo Ling smiled and said, "Whether it's humiliating or not depends on whether you know what's good for you."
The translator hadn't felt so triumphant in a long time; hands on hips, he rattled off the translation to his superior.
The officer remained silent, staring at Zuo Ling, waiting for further instructions.
Zuo Ling turned to Guo Qi:
"Aren't you short of heavy oil? Ask him for some. Judging from his appearance, he can't be of low status. If you need anything else, don't be shy, have He Xiao make a list, and get everything you need."
He Xiao, panting heavily, said, "I'm here, I'm here. What do you want me to do?"
Not only were the people of Rose Country unaware of what had happened, but Guo Qi, He Xiao, and a group of villagers were also completely baffled.
How could someone appear on a cliff from such a great distance? That's something you only see in cultivation novels.
Everyone knows that Zuo Ling and her brother are superpowered individuals, but there are many different opinions about what kind of superpowers they have. Almost no one has ever seen them use their abilities. Today, I've really learned something new.
However, now is not the time to think about these things. What benefits do we want? We need to think about it carefully.
Pei Nansheng searched the group thoroughly, took their weapons, and then taught the villagers how to tie people up. When they couldn't untie them, he handed the people over to them.
As for what they ultimately asked for from the Rose Kingdom, Zuo Ling didn't care; that was Guo Qi and He Xiao's business.
When she turned around, Yang Chengang was staring at her with a complicated expression.
He was just below the cliff, ready to fight the Rose Kingdom people to the death.
If he hadn't seen it with his own eyes, he would never have believed that Zuo Ling and the others were superhumans.
Zuo Ling gave an awkward laugh: "Brother Yang, I didn't see you just now."
Yang Chengang was even more awkward than Zuo Ling. He tugged at his skin and forced a smile: "I'm busy down the cliff."
The shock was too great; he didn't even know how to deal with Zuo Ling anymore.
A speedboat was lowered from the warship, and two junior officers came forward, demanding to see their superior. Yang Chengang sent men to bring them aboard.
