Chapter 258 What is Right and Wrong?

With the troublemaker gone, things became much simpler.

Chen Hao and Di Fei led their men to search one by one, causing quite a commotion.

There were two people with children; one was stuffing compressed biscuits into the child's mouth, and the other was stuffing canned fish into it.

Chen Hao closed his eyes. He was tall and had a fierce face, but he wasn't that hard-hearted. He tried to pretend he didn't see it, but Di Fei saw it and snatched it away. The child was so frightened that he cried loudly.

The woman rushed up and tried to snatch it:

"Please, the child is so young, please give him some food, please, please..."

Another person berated Di Fei: "How can you be so inhumane? You can tolerate adults, but you don't even spare children."

The onlookers pointed and whispered, all criticizing Di Fei for being inhumane. They said, "What's wrong with a child eating a couple of bites? You'd rather throw it away than give it to the child. You're really inhuman!"

Having learned from past mistakes, no one dared to speak loudly, and the buzzing of mosquitoes was incessant.

Di Fei listened, his face cold, and kicked the man away.

If we use children to soften their hearts this time, we can use them to get more next time. Will we have to compromise every time?

If you retreat, the other party will advance; how can the rules be established?

Guo Qi wasn't idle either.

A middle-aged man with gray hair and broken glasses took a few steps back, then turned back unwillingly.

"Guo...Guo, I just heard the villagers say that we can get food based on our contribution points, right?"

"That's right."

“I…I’m a mechanic. Aren’t you repairing a ship? I’m sure I can help.”

Mechanic? What does that do? Guo Qi asked Yang Chengang with his eyes.

Yang Chengang asked, "Airplane repairman?"

"Yes, yes, I repair airplanes. Not only airplanes, I can repair other things too. There must be blueprints on the ship. Let me see them. I can really help."

The middle-aged man was afraid that Guo Qi wouldn't use him.

Guo Qi said to He Xiao:

"Give him a compressed biscuit first, let him try it, see if it works... treat him the same as the villagers."

There was a shortage of repair personnel, and Guo Qi was very willing to give the middle-aged man a chance.

The middle-aged man left, thanking him profusely.

As soon as they saw a door, the newcomers rushed up to tell them what they were good at and what they could do.

Two of them were the chief mate of the passenger ship and an ordinary crew member.

Guo Qi asked Tao Dali to test them. Although Tao Dali was just a fisherman, he had been at sea for many years. He had never sailed a big ship, but he had sailed a small one.

When there's really no one else to use it, even a small fry can be used like an elephant.

One by one, a few more engineers arrived, and the makeshift team was finally set up.

Guo Qi selected 200 honest, strong, and hardworking young men from among the migrant workers to do odd jobs.

First, it can divide outsiders and reduce conflicts; second, it can strengthen one's own forces, thus stabilizing morale.

Third, resolve the issue of food rations for migrant workers, so that if there are any further disturbances, there will be an excuse.

If you're not capable enough to earn contribution points, who can you blame?

Of the 200 people, not all are single; many have families. As long as one person has a job, the whole family has hope.

Unconsciously, they won over half of the people.

All the able-bodied men have been taken away, so outsiders can't cause any trouble even if they want to.

The new residents were appeased, but the original residents became unhappy.

Many people approached Guo Qi:

“Guo, those jobs are all done by people in our village. Why should we delegate them to outsiders?”

They certainly didn't like working; they just didn't like having supplies distributed. The supplies looked plentiful, but when divided equally among the villagers, there wasn't much.

With over 200 more mouths to feed, the consumption would be staggering, so the villagers were naturally unwilling to accept it.

According to their wishes, they would naturally want to receive as little as possible.

"Even if we use them, we can't use all those old people. It's a waste to give away so much stuff."

The villagers are currently doing some finishing touches, and they don't have much work to do.

Guo Qi, of course, could not tell the villagers about his little scheme. He could only keep reassuring them, saying things like, "We are all descendants of the Chinese nation, and we can't just stand by and watch everyone starve to death," to appease them.

"Before they came to Chinatown, I saw that they were living well. Oh, now that they've come to Chinatown and see that we have supplies, do they suddenly lose their ability to survive?"

"That's right, boss, you can't side with outsiders."

"..."

Guo Qishen's face darkened:

"What can I say to you? The people of Tangren Village came first, and then the village came into being. Who are our own people and who are outsiders?"

Just a few months ago, we didn't even know each other. Oh, is it appropriate to push our own people away for such a small gain?

Alright, alright, get back to what you were doing. Have you collected all the firewood I asked you to? Is the water ready? Is the stove set up? Don't come back to me saying this isn't done or that isn't collected, all you're doing is fighting amongst yourselves.

"Go, go, go, I'm busy, I don't have time to argue with you."

After much persuasion, they finally managed to convince everyone to go home.

Zuo Ling witnessed the entire spectacle. Although she didn't know the details clearly, she could roughly guess what had happened.

This is also one of the reasons why she is unwilling to live with the villagers.

Xiao Hao's mental strength is stronger than Zuo Ling's, so he can see more clearly.

Zuo Ling asked him, "If you were Uncle Di Fei, what would you do?"

Xiao Hao lowered his head and thought for a long time, but didn't answer his sister when they arrived.

He never told his older siblings that he had thrown a small child into a large pot and slaughtered the entire village.

But when he saw Uncle Difei take away the food from the two children, for a moment, he also felt that Uncle Difei had gone too far.

It's just a bite to eat. There are two little kids, so we just gave it to them. It's no big deal.
