Chapter 272 Shadows in the Woods

The appearance of the blood-sucking vine was too strange, so Zuo Ling said, "How about we stay in a submarine?"

Xiao Hao was the first to object:

"Sister, even living in the sea can pose a danger like a volcanic eruption."

Pei Nansheng agreed:

"There's no way to avoid it. You might encounter unknown risks no matter where you live, so be careful."

Neither brother agreed. Zuo Ling patted the waterfall's head and asked, "Aren't you scared?"

The waterfall didn't answer. It licked Zuo Ling's hand, rolled over comfortably, and imitated Xue Ye's coquettish manner, turning its belly over so that Zuo Ling could scratch its itch.

I poked its little belly, and said, "You seem to be enjoying yourself."

Seeing the snowy night, I felt a pang of envy and went up to Xiao Hao, nudging his head and begging for a pet.

With the waterfall and snowy night distracting them, the matter of the vampire vine was temporarily put aside.

The fire flickered, the waves rolled, and the sky twinkled with starlight. The seaside at dusk was more enchanting than during the day.

Enjoying the sea breeze, sipping fish soup, and eating pancakes, the three chatted and laughed, feeling quite relaxed.

The fish were river fish raised in the space, and the fish soup had some bitter lettuce added; the bitter lettuce was picked from the forest.

During their time on the island, whenever possible, they prepared food fresh, and the whole family loved the warmth of cooking.

Xiao Hao is addicted to picking wild vegetables and has already learned to recognize many kinds of them.

"Sister, shall we make wild vegetable dumplings tomorrow?"

"OK."

Pei Nansheng's palate had become picky: "Add some meat, it won't taste good without meat."

Zuo Ling smiled and scolded:

"Making wild vegetable dumplings is meant to remind us of the hardships we endured, but you've gone too far by adding meat. Is that still a wild vegetable dumpling?"

Xiao Hao felt sorry for his brother: "Make two different dishes, one with meat and one without."

Snowy night, woof, woof, woof, I agree.

The waterfall tossed its head up and nodded twice, showing its support.

"..."

The family of five were so engrossed in their conversation that none of them noticed a dark figure leaping and soaring through the woods in the distance, using tree branches for support or swinging on vines like a swing.

With a few leaps and bounds, it flew over most of the mountain in the blink of an eye.

He moved with lightness, landing silently, as agile as a mountain spirit.

The three siblings practiced their skills in the night, and, not wanting to be lonely on a snowy night, they followed along, running around.

The waterfall is a lazy fellow, occasionally jumping onto the snowy night, just to participate.

The three humans and two beasts worked up a sweat, took a hot shower in the space, and then snuggled comfortably into bed to sleep.

As night fell, Zuo Ling's family was fast asleep.

The shadowy figure crept into the outer perimeter of the wooden house, its dark eyes gleaming with cunning. It crushed the large eggshell in its hand, spilling juice all over the ground.

Feeling it wasn't enough, he took out a few more from the bag behind him, squeezing and sprinkling them as he went, the fishy smell spreading in the wind.

He grinned, revealing a sinister and eerie smile, and towards the wooden house, he made a gesture across his neck, proudly raising his chin.

He glanced around, grabbed the fire tongs from beside the stove, and quickly disappeared into the forest.

As soon as the shadowy figure left, Zuo Ling suddenly woke up. She carefully sensed the surroundings but found nothing amiss. She turned over and went back to sleep.

Soon, large creatures, about 5 or 6 meters long, began to wag their tails and crawl toward the wooden house, following the distinctive scent.

Every few meters along their path, there was a broken eggshell with a little bit of egg liquid inside.

The creatures sniffed and sniffed, growing increasingly annoyed. The largest one patted its large, powerful tail, opened its mouth wide, and roared to the sky.

As if summoned, all the big guys let out a long howl.

Zuo Ling, Pei Nansheng, and Xiao Hao sat up at the same time, and Xue Ye slammed his head into the half-closed wooden door.

Waterfall was stunned for a moment, rolled its eyes in annoyance, and kicked Snow Night with its paw. "You rascal, you woke me up, don't you know that?"

Meanwhile, hundreds of large, ugly, and ferocious creatures with sharp beaks and teeth emerged near the cargo ship; they too had been attracted by the egg liquid on the ground.

The largest one is over ten meters long, with rough, thick skin and scales that gleam with a brownish light.

Several relatively neatly arranged large eggs were laid out on the shore. When the claws reached closer, each eggshell was cracked, and sticky egg liquid dripped down.

The giant creatures angrily shook their massive bodies and thrashed their tails restlessly, as if they wanted to tear apart the villain who had ruined their reproduction.

Looking up at the cargo ships quietly anchored in the distance, the leading vessel narrowed its eyes and issued a command to the sky.

The crew all entered the water and climbed up to the cargo ship, stacking themselves on top of each other like a human pyramid.

The rustling sound startled Ning Qiang, who was half asleep. Thinking it was another snake, he quickly woke up the rest of the Ning family members.

Ning Xiaoqi rushed to the front and crashed head-on into a huge creature, instinctively ejecting a fireball.

Thud...

The big guy was startled by the fireball, and Ning Xiaoqi finally saw clearly that the big guy in front of her was actually a crocodile.

Looking at the deck, there were more than a dozen crocodiles, each with sharp snouts and fangs, and many more were climbing onto the deck.

"Second Young Master, crocodiles, crocodiles are climbing up, so many, so many."

"Old Guo, Old Guo, get up, get up, the crocodile is coming."

"Ah... crocodile, oh my god, go away, go away..."

"Ah, help me, help me..."

Bang, bang, boom, boom—gunshots, the sound of fireballs exploding, interspersed with screams of agony—the cargo ship was in complete chaos.

A dark figure emerged from the woods, hopping and skipping to the shore, hands on hips, gazing at the distant hustle and bustle.

The screams seemed to trigger the shadowy figure's senses. It grinned foolishly, revealing a set of white teeth and a sinister expression.

The shouting grew louder and louder, and the cries of pain increased.

With a thud, people and crocodiles fell off the cargo ship, one after the other.

The shadowy figure was delighted, its mouth practically stretching to the back of its head in a wide grin.
