The commander summoned his adjutant and launched into a tirade.
The adjutant's face changed upon hearing this. Having just been slapped, he didn't dare utter a single word this time. He bowed respectfully and went to make the arrangements.
Two dilapidated Japanese ships, one on the left and one on the right, suddenly accelerated and swerved forward.
Despite its dilapidated appearance, the ship's speed exceeds its original specifications by more than double, suggesting it has undergone special modifications.
After sailing to the front of the cargo ship, a sharp turn was made, and two Japanese ships appeared, blocking the cargo ship's path.
The crowd exclaimed in shock, "Have the Japanese gone mad? The distance is so short, and the cargo ship is so large that it's difficult to turn around. There's no way they can avoid it."
The Japanese soldiers on the first ship jumped into the sea one after another. Some of them even made a defiant gesture towards the cargo ship before jumping.
Captain Chang was sweating profusely. This was too crazy. Given the size of the cargo ship, the two ships blocking the way wouldn't have a significant impact on the cargo ship itself, but they would definitely force it to stop.
The most terrifying thing is that if the Japanese ship were to explode, it would definitely affect the cargo ships.
"Turn right, turn right, quick, quick."
Regaining his composure, Captain Chang quickly issued instructions.
Although Captain Chang made the right choice in a very short time, the cargo ship was too close to the Japanese ship and could not avoid it, resulting in a fierce and intimate encounter.
Thump, clang, crash... a series of ear-piercing collisions and scrapes that gave one a headache.
The impact was so strong that many people were thrown off the cargo ship, and many others were knocked off balance, their hearts, livers, spleens, and lungs ruptured, and every part of their bodies ached.
Upon realizing something was wrong, Guo Qi rushed to the bow of the ship and rammed it with tremendous force, causing his body to fly uncontrollably into the air.
Guo Qi had only one thought in his mind: It's over, my life is over!
He was at the bow of the ship, flying between the cargo ship and the Japanese ship. The propellers under the two ships would smash him to pieces.
In his despair, someone suddenly grabbed Guo Qi's arm. Guo Qi opened his eyes and saw Ning Qiang!
Ning Qiang stood at a 45-degree angle, one foot braced against the ship's railing, the other hand gripping Guo Qi tightly.
As the battle has progressed, the Ning family members have only fired a few shots occasionally, and their involvement has been minimal.
Ning Qiang had his own ulterior motives. He wanted to see if Zuo Ling was nearby, but after fighting for so long, Zuo Ling and her family still hadn't appeared, so he couldn't help but feel disappointed.
Before the first impact was over, the second impact came, leaving the people on the cargo ship completely disoriented.
Even those with strong constitutions like Chen Hao, Di Fei, and Yang Chengang were suffering terribly, let alone those with weaker constitutions.
Those who weren't thrown off the ship were lucky; many were sucked into the bottom and churned into mincemeat by the propeller.
The Japanese commander shouted excitedly, brandishing his samurai sword and signaling to his soldiers, "Charge! Kill all the Chinese pigs!"
The remaining four ships surrounded the cargo ship again.
Hundreds of tiger claw ropes were thrown toward the cargo ship, and Japanese soldiers leaped aboard.
Guo Qi was so anxious that his eyes were bloodshot. Ignoring the excruciating pain all over his body, he shouted through gritted teeth:
"Chen Hao, Di Fei, take some men and protect the cockpit. Everyone else, kill them!"
Although Chen Hao and Di Fei had been training the villagers, they were still relatively new to the task and could not compare to the regular Japanese army.
As soon as the battle began, their decline became obvious. If it weren't for the Ning family members, they would have undoubtedly lost.
Ning Qiang casually snapped the neck of a Japanese soldier and shouted at Ning Xiaoqi:
"Xiao Qi, go and guard the cockpit."
The Japanese soldiers who could board the cargo ship were not ordinary Japanese soldiers, and Ning Qiang was afraid that Chen Hao and Di Fei would not be able to withstand them.
A Japanese man raised his sword and slashed at Lao Jin, while Ning Qiang kicked up the samurai sword that had fallen to the ground.
"Ah!" A cry of pain rang out as the Japanese man was stabbed in the back. He stood there stunned for a few seconds before collapsing to the ground with a thud.
Old Jin was so frightened that he broke out in a cold sweat. He nodded gratefully to Ning Qiang, picked up the wooden mallet that had fallen to the ground, and began to strike his large and small drums.
Thump, thump, thump, thump...
As long as people are here, the drum will keep beating; the drumbeat must not stop. Thinking this in my heart, I involuntarily shouted it out:
"As long as we live, the drums will beat; the sons of China cannot perish. We are invincible, for as long as we are the enemy, we are not the enemy; we will either succeed or die trying..."
"As long as we live, the drums will beat; the sons of China cannot perish. We are invincible, for as long as we are the enemy, we are not the enemy; we will either succeed or die trying..."
"As long as we live, the drums will beat; the sons of China cannot perish. We are invincible, for as long as we are the enemy, we are not the enemy; we will either succeed or die trying..."
He shouted louder and louder, getting more and more excited. The drums followed his lead, booming and booming... the deafening sounds soaring into the sky.
Japanese soldiers kept surging forward, and compatriots fell one by one. The crowd had already given up hope, but hearing Old Jin's shout, a surge of courage arose from nowhere, and they joined in the shout:
"As long as we live, the drums will beat; the sons of China cannot perish. We are invincible, for as long as we are the enemy, we are not the enemy; we will either succeed or die trying..."
"As long as we live, the drums will beat; the sons of China cannot perish. We are invincible, for as long as we are the enemy, we are not the enemy; we will either succeed or die trying..."
At first, it was just one or two people shouting along, but later the entire ship of Chinese people joined in. With each shout, they seemed to gain a bit more strength, and everyone seemed to transform.
Frail women, young children, people missing limbs—everyone who could get up joined the fight.
They fought the Japanese devils with knives, guns, clubs, and everything in their power.
As more and more people died, the bloodshed failed to break the Chinese people; instead, it fueled their deep-seated hatred, making them determined to deliver a fatal blow to the enemy, even at the cost of their own lives.
Sensing the change in the Chinese man, which seemed to be related to the old man playing the drum, one of them ran towards Lao Jin.
Ning Dage flung out a vine, strangling the man until his eyes rolled back, and then Ning Dage laughed loudly:
"With me here, what do you want to do?"
Several more Japanese soldiers rushed up, but Ning Dage and Ning Qiang cleared them out one by one.
