Chapter 321 Proposing Marriage

After leaving the chicken coop, Zuo Ling went to the fish pond.

Qian Yu was willing to invest heavily, perhaps out of a bright future. A dozen or so fish fry occupied a pond covering two acres, and the water for raising the fish was carried back bucket by bucket by the soldiers who found the fish fry in the river.

Several retractable sheds stand beside the pool, providing shelter from the wind and rain, and even temporary protection against acid rain.

When Zuo Ling arrived, a man who looked like a fisherman was sitting on the edge of the pond, lost in thought. He had been invited to take care of the fish fry.

It's laughable to think that one person is in charge of more than a dozen fish; there's no job more leisurely in the entire base.

Hearing footsteps, the fisherman stood up in a panic. He had been there for more than two months, but he was still not used to it, mainly because it was too leisurely.

In the past, I worked from dawn till dusk just to earn a living. Now, I receive my full contribution points every month, but I have nothing to do.

The fisherman was very guilty, afraid that someone would see him not working and think he was being lazy.

It's not that he's being lazy, it's that he really has nothing to do.

Zuo Ling, without much self-awareness, blurted out, "I'm busy."

The fisherman panicked even more: "Ah, ah, no, don't rush."

I'm thinking, you clearly saw that I was free, but you still said you were 'busy'. Are you trying to give me a warning?

"You're busy, I'm just browsing."

"Look, look."

In the fisherman's eyes, Zuo Ling was someone he couldn't reach.

I heard that this smiling woman just kicked so-and-so out of the base, so he didn't dare stop her from seeing it.

The fish is about the length of a hand and is growing very well; it's clear that it has been taken very seriously.

Zuo Ling reached into the pool and scooped up a few handfuls of water, but in reality, she poured a large amount of spatial well water into the pool.

The fish ran wildly towards Zuo Ling, much to the fisherman's surprise.

Chinese people love fish. Fish bring wealth and joy, and are auspicious symbols. Zuo Ling really enjoyed being surrounded by fish and played with them for a while before leaving.

Finally, he was gone. The fisherman breathed a long sigh of relief. He cherished his current job and was afraid that others would say he hadn't done his job well, so he was anxious about losing it.

Zuo Ling first went to see the breadfruit trees planted in various places. Since she left, the breadfruit trees not only haven't grown much, but they've also been drooping.

Using his special abilities, he forced each seedling to grow faster, and incidentally watered them with some spatial water.

She then walked around the vegetable garden and the grain garden. By the end of the day, even with her strong physique, she was exhausted.

As they approached home, they saw two unfamiliar women standing at the gate of the yard, and the three little ones were confronting them.

The barking continued incessantly in the snowy night. Ah Si remained indifferent, tilting his head and coldly surveying the newcomers, while the waterfall lazily watched the show from the sidelines.

Knowing that they shouldn't bite people indiscriminately, the wolf and dog will not attack people unless the other party behaves aggressively.

Even so, it terrified the two men.

Upon seeing Zuo Ling return, the older woman greeted her with a forced smile:

"Girl, you're back."

Zuo Ling looks young, only in her early twenties. Others don't think it's a big deal when they call her "girl," but she herself feels awkward when she hears it.

Looking at the younger women beside the woman, Zuo Ling vaguely knew their purpose.

With a calm expression, he asked, "What is it?"

"Ah, ah, yes, yes, there is something."

Looking at the fierce wolf and dog, he timidly said, "Miss, could we come into the courtyard to talk?"

"Come in."

He picked up two small chairs. "Sit down."

The woman looked around, praising incessantly:

"Your home is really nice. Look at this little vegetable garden, so neat and tidy. You can tell it's a family that lives a good life."

I had already seen it from outside the hospital, and I was incredibly envious at the time.

The perspective within the courtyard varies, and the experience is naturally different; one might even wish they were the owner of the courtyard.

The younger women weren't as overtly expressive as the older women; they would glance around from time to time, their eyes filled with envy.

Zuo Ling's family's living environment is comparable to a detached villa before the apocalypse.

The privileged class lives better than Zuo Ling's family, but they certainly don't have Zuo Ling's small vegetable garden. This alone makes them far superior to all other high-end residences.

He poured each of them a glass of water, then smiled faintly and waited for what was to come.

The woman's eyes lit up. Fresh water was supplied in fixed quantities, and being offered water when visiting was already a privilege for a distinguished guest. The woman felt more confident about her purpose for visiting today.

"Young lady, it's like this. Our family is neighbors with Professor Jin, and we're on good terms. During a casual chat, we heard that your brother isn't engaged yet?"

Zuo Ling looked at the girl who came with her. The two had similar features and were probably mother and daughter.

The girl was about twenty-seven or twenty-eight years old, with a beautiful face, about 1.65 meters tall, and a slender figure. She was a good match for the brother.

He smiled and said, "Yes."

The girl blushed. Zuo Ling found it amusing. They didn't even know each other yet, and she dared to visit the man's house on her first visit. She couldn't possibly be a shy person.

The woman breathed a sigh of relief. She had seen Zuo Ling's family visiting Professor Jin's house that day.

The three siblings were good-looking, and with wolves and dogs around them, it was clear that they came from a well-off family, so the woman immediately took a liking to them.

Her husband was a military officer, and she was highly educated. They lived in a military compound and later moved with the troops. Although they didn't live as comfortably as before the apocalypse, they didn't suffer much hardship either.

My only worry is that I have an elderly daughter at home.

My daughter is almost 30. She can still live with her parents now, but what about the future? Who knows when this hellish life will end?

What if something were to happen to the elderly couple? The woman was so worried that she couldn't sleep for nights on end.

Upon seeing Pei Nansheng's outstanding appearance and demeanor, she took a liking to him at first sight and, with a keen interest in inquiring, managed to gather a fairly comprehensive understanding of Zuo Ling's family situation.

She had intended to ask Professor Jin and his wife to arrange a marriage for her, but for some reason, the elderly couple made an excuse to decline. However, they pointed her in the right direction and told her to come and find Zuo Ling.
