Zuo Ling transformed into a swift and circled the entire enclosed area, intermittently spotting several people who had entered with them.
The fact that the exit was random, and that people who came in didn't all end up in the same place, made Zuo Ling even more wary of the mysterious reclusive elder. This was a fantasy novel technique that had actually appeared in reality.
It flew to a certain place, and then... landed on a tree, quietly watching the commotion below.
The wicked mother-in-law who came with her hugged a man who was even older than her and cried her heart out, while her daughter-in-law stood aside with an indifferent expression.
"My son, what happened to you? You look older than your mother! Waaah, it breaks my heart..."
"Mom, how did you get in here? This is no place for humans. We've all been fooled."
The old woman wiped away her tears, then, remembering something, pointed at her daughter-in-law and scolded:
"It's all that wretched woman's fault. She said that if we came in to work, we would have food and lodging, and our families could be reunited. Who knew we would end up in a den of wolves..."
With her son's support, the old woman was filled with righteous indignation and picked up a stick to beat her daughter-in-law.
The woman grabbed the stick, and the old woman became furious:
“Your wife has grown bold, daring to hit me. If you don’t teach her a lesson, I’ll kill myself.”
The man was thin and bony, but had a fierce look on his face. He cursed viciously:
"You filthy bastard, how dare you hit my mother! I'll skin you alive!"
As he spoke, he lunged forward and began to punch and kick him.
Thinking the woman was about to suffer a loss, Zuo Ling was about to secretly help her when she saw the woman snatch the old woman's stick and strike the man head-on.
"Hit me, I'll let you hit me! You two have been beating me for over ten years! You beat me when the food is too salty, when I have no food, when I have no money! You beat me over the smallest things! I'm just your punching bag! I owe you something! I'll let you hit me, I'll let you hit me..."
The woman went mad, raining blows on the man with the stick.
The man never expected his usually docile wife to fight back. He was already weak and frail, and after a few blows, he was beaten to the ground by the woman.
"You wretched woman, stop! Stop!"
"Oh dear, Mom, Mom, quickly drag this crazy woman away."
The old woman was stunned and started attacking her daughter-in-law.
The woman, caught up in the excitement, then started hitting the old woman as well.
Looking at his wife, who had gone mad, the man muttered, "She's gone mad, she's gone mad, she's really gone mad..."
He scrambled to his feet and protected his mother, saying, "Let's go, let's go, let's not stoop to the level of a madwoman, let her wait here to die."
He spat as he walked: "You filthy woman, you just wait, you'll see."
When the woman got tired of beating, she threw down the stick, covered her face, and cried out all the grievances she had suffered over the years.
Zuo Ling watched quietly. Her relationship with her former mother-in-law was neither good nor bad, so she couldn't understand the woman's pain. But seeing her crying so sadly, she couldn't help but feel sorry for her.
The woman cried for a long time. Hearing a noise behind her, she was startled, grabbed a stick, and turned around warily.
“It’s you.”
Upon seeing that it was Zuo Ling, the woman relaxed.
"I saw it all just now, well done."
The woman's eyes were terribly swollen. Years of pent-up frustration had finally subsided, and she was living for herself. After calming down, she began to worry about the future. How could she, a frail woman with no one to protect her, survive in this cannibalistic apocalypse?
Seeing through the woman's thoughts, Zuo Ling said:
"What's there to miss about that kind of man and that kind of in-laws? It's better to get rid of them sooner rather than later."
The woman was in low spirits, and a few words couldn't comfort her; Zuo Ling wasn't good at that either.
He slowly approached and raised his hand to chop at the woman's neck.
The woman was stunned, "You..."
He closed his eyes and fainted, then waved his hand to send the woman into his spatial dimension.
As it grew darker, Zuo Ling decided to head back and rejoin her brothers, no longer wanting to wander around.
They could see someone talking to the two brothers from afar.
Xiao Hao, with his sharp eyes, exclaimed, "Sister!"
Zuo Ling looked at the man, one of the scouts, who was using the alias Liao Jie.
Liao Jie's temples were graying, making him look more than ten years older than in the portrait. If it weren't for 017's excellent sketch, I almost wouldn't have recognized him.
Liao Jie's eyes were wary; he didn't trust Zuo Ling and her brother.
Pei Nansheng said that they had sent in three people in succession. They knew the aliases and mentioned 003 and 017, but could not say their code names, which aroused Pei Nansheng's suspicion.
Pei Nansheng smiled and said:
"It's okay if you don't believe us. Just find the other two, tell them this place isn't safe, and tell them to find somewhere to hide. Hmm, that would be best..."
Zuo Ling suddenly made a move, and Liao Jie collapsed to the ground before he could finish saying "you".
Xiao Hao chuckled and nudged Liao Jie, "Go keep your comrades company."
Zuo Ling handed the photos she took to Xiao Hao for image comparison.
Xiao Hao had only been learning to draw for a week and was unfamiliar with everything. It took him a long time to determine the proportions and distances.
Some data points are unclear and need to be checked again.
The three siblings lit a fire and ate and chatted until midnight, but Xue Shan and Jiang Ya still hadn't come looking for them.
Xiao Hao asked Zuo Ling, "Sister, do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Zuo Ling felt really uncomfortable; it was a strange feeling, as if something was slowly being pulled away from her body.
Xiao Hao and Pei Nansheng had similar feelings.
This is bizarre, so very bizarre!
I flashed into the space, slept soundly through the night, and felt a little better.
The next day, Zuo Ling transformed into a swift to locate the area where the data was unclear.
Colorful leaflets fluttered like rain, and someone shouted, "What, what is that?"
One person picked up the colored paper and saw that it was written on it:
This place is dangerous. Try to move towards the edge of the clouds and fog. Remember! Remember!
"Where did the paper come from, and what does it mean?"
Nobody knows where the brochures came from; they seem to have just floated over.
