The room was silent.
"Great, great, that's wonderful, congratulations, Uncle!"
Ning Qiang gave an awkward laugh and forced himself to offer his blessings.
My uncle isn't one to meddle in other people's business; when he says he's going to hold a wedding banquet, he's only referring to himself.
Aside from the woman in his hospital bed, he had no other women around him. Marrying a living dead person was hardly a happy occasion.
But what could he, as a junior, do but go along with his uncle's wishes?
The old man nodded, forcing a stiff smile, then turned to look at Zuo Ling, his fingers unconsciously tightening.
He had spent most of his life for his family, and now that his time was up, he wanted to indulge himself one last time before he died.
While Xiaoqian was still conscious, they asked for her opinion. Xiaoqian looked towards the door, tears streaming down her face.
He knew she wanted to hear her daughter's opinion.
Zuo Ling was very cold to Xiao Qian, and Xiao Qian was afraid that her daughter would not like it.
The old man smiled bitterly. He was a man of some standing, yet he had to put up with the attitude of a mere young girl.
What's infuriating is that the little girl still has bastard's blood on her, and the old man is so frustrated that he wants to curse.
Zuo Ling kept her head down and remained silent for a long time, and the atmosphere in the room became increasingly oppressive.
"Sister Zuo... Sister Zuo, my uncle is having a big celebration. If you can't send a big gift, at least give me some words of blessing."
Seeing his uncle becoming increasingly depressed, Ning Qiang had no choice but to step in and smooth things over.
Zuo Ling looked completely bewildered: "What does your family's happy occasion have to do with me?"
The old man suddenly relaxed. Although Zuo Ling did not give a direct answer, her lack of objection was an attitude in itself.
Ning Qiang grinned widely:
"Look at what you're saying. We've been hanging out together for a while now, and we've even had a drink together at a wedding."
Zuo Ling glanced at him but didn't say anything.
She couldn't object, given that the old man had cared for her unconditionally for 37 years.
I'm a little envious of that guy in the story; he's so sick he's practically a skeleton, yet someone still wants to marry him.
Ah! True feelings do exist in this world.
"Cough, cough..."
The old man suppressed a cough and said, "Alright, alright, then please have a drink at my wedding tonight, young lady."
You're too kind.
Ning Qiang tilted his head, his eyes darting back and forth between his uncle and Zuo Ling.
He noticed that his uncle's expression towards Zuo Ling had softened considerably.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, love me, love my dog, he clearly remembers his uncle's disgust when he first met Zuo Ling.
"Uncle, isn't this a bit too rushed? How about tomorrow?"
Chinese people are very particular about the time of marriage; getting married at night is considered a second marriage.
My uncle is older but has never been married. The woman who gave birth out of wedlock has also never been married. The two of them could easily choose a proper date.
With the biggest obstacle gone, the old man looked relieved.
"No need for that. Just set up two tables and invite a few close friends."
The old man didn't care about the exact time; he just wanted the wedding to take place as long as it was in time.
"The new house needs to be decorated; it should look like a wedding celebration."
"Most things have already been prepared, so there's nothing else to prepare."
"..."
The uncle and nephew chatted for ages about how to arrange the wedding banquet.
Zuo Ling didn't hear a word. She was trying to sense the woman's movements in the inner room. The woman was asleep, her breathing barely audible.
Zuo Ling's heart tightened. Her woman's bodily functions were completely destroyed, and she was only holding on by the supernatural power she had lost to her.
When her superpowers were exhausted, which was also the time of her death, Zuo Ling felt extremely frustrated and took a step to walk out.
The two, who were having a lively conversation, suddenly stopped.
The uncle and nephew exchanged glances; were they unhappy? They hadn't said anything, had they?
Did she think the wedding banquet was too simple and that it offended her mother?
Pei Nansheng and Xiao Hao came to greet them.
The waterfall splashed all over her, and she looked unhappy, her eyes questioning, "Why did you take so long? Don't you have any sense of time?"
The dog pushed past Xiao Hao and stuck its tongue out at Zuo Ling in a fawning manner.
Ah Si was the furthest away, but the concern in his eyes remained undiminished.
"What's wrong? What did they say to you?"
Zuo Ling was speechless, unsure of where to begin.
"I... my mother is still alive."
Xiao Hao's mouth gaped open in an "O" shape. His sister's mother was still alive! Ahhh...
Pei Nansheng frowned. He was thinking more deeply. Was Zuo Ling's mother a member of the Ning family? Or was she being held captive by the Ning family?
"However, he's dying soon, in the next few days."
Zuo Ling's tone was icy, as if she were talking about someone else.
Xiao Hao looked worried, while Pei Nansheng breathed a sigh of relief. A man who was about to die couldn't control his sister.
They can't leave for the time being; someone is taking care of the family of six to rest and settle down.
In the evening, Ning Qiang came to invite him.
Ning Qiang was dressed in designer clothes, exuding the aura of a domineering CEO.
Zuo Ling's family is not bad off either.
Pei Nansheng and Xiao Hao were dressed in sharp suits and shiny leather shoes, each wearing a red tie to add a festive touch.
Zuo Ling's hair was styled in a high bun, and she wore a light yellow knee-length skirt, a pearl necklace, pearl earrings, and a beige casual suit jacket, which was both formal and not too old-fashioned.
The three little ones were even more eye-catching.
A wolf and a dog, both dressed in black and white uniforms, each with a cute red polka-dot bow tie around their necks.
The most beautiful one is the waterfall, dressed in a red dress, with a red bow on her head and a small golden bell around her neck. She's incredibly cute.
Looking left and right, Zuo Ling felt it wasn't enough, so she added a stylish wristwatch to each of the brothers' wrists.
I also picked out a spring-themed bracelet from a pile of high-end jewelry.
Xiao Hao has never worn formal clothes before, and he's so awkward he almost can't walk properly anymore.
Upon seeing the family dressed in their finest attire, Ning Qiang paused for a moment, then flashed a bright smile revealing his pearly white teeth.
Zuo Ling's willingness to dress up her family shows that she has accepted her uncle's identity.
