Chapter 354 I've been waiting for you for a long time

Pei Nansheng observed for five days, but gained very little. Only a few guards came out to urinate, sunbathe for a while, chatted for a few words, and then went back inside.

The rest of the time was quiet; not a single person was seen.

The secret base was built at the foot of a cliff, expanded from an existing cave on the cliff, with only one entrance, which was a heavy iron gate.

Pei Nansheng speculated that there were at least two more doors inside, each guarded by no fewer than two fully armed soldiers, making it impossible to enter without alerting anyone.

"Have you decided when you want to go in?" Zuo Ling had been waiting impatiently for a long time.

Putting down his binoculars, Pei Nansheng thought for a moment and said, "Let's do it today."

Zuo Ling was overjoyed and was about to get up when Pei Nansheng stopped her, saying, "I meant tonight."

"That works too, it'll get us to our optimal state."

The two went into the space to wash up and rest. At 8 p.m., Zuo Ling woke up to the smell of food.

When I got to the living room, I saw that there were already four or five dishes on the table.

Braised prawns, boiled pork intestines, stir-fried pork slices, and sweet and sour ribbonfish are all dishes that Zuo Ling loves to eat.

Pei Nansheng was a very responsible older brother. He remembered exactly what she and Xiao Hao liked to eat, and he learned most of the recipes by following them. The food tasted quite good.

On the contrary, neither Zuo Ling nor Xiao Hao could figure out what he liked to eat. When asked occasionally, Pei Nansheng always said that he liked everything he ate.

The aroma of the food wafted through the air, creating a warm and cozy scene, but for some reason, Zuo Ling felt a pang of sadness in her heart.

Pei Nansheng carried a steaming pot of soup out of the kitchen. Seeing that she had gotten up, he smiled and said:

"There are two more vegetarian dishes, they'll be ready soon, you can eat first."

Zuo Ling keenly sensed something was off about Pei Nansheng. She followed him to the kitchen and sniffed:

"What, the Last Supper?"

He regretted the words as soon as they left his mouth and slapped himself twice.

Pei Nansheng had his back to her, didn't turn around, flipped through the dishes a couple of times, and then said:

“You and Xiao Hao often try to avoid cooking, so I always end up cooking instead. You’ve eaten less of my cooking, haven’t you?”

Zuo Ling remained silent for a while before speaking:

"Brother, when we go back this time, find me a sister-in-law. I think Zhou Yuanyuan is pretty good."

Pei Nansheng still didn't turn around: "Okay, if you think she's good, then let's go with her, so as to avoid future difficulties between the sisters-in-law."

Hearing his heavy nasal tone, Zuo Ling pretended to be relaxed:

"You rejected her last time, maybe she got angry and stopped talking to you. By the time we get back, she might already be married."

"Then find someone else. So many people are pursuing your brother, you won't have trouble finding one. Hey, don't just talk about me, you should hurry up and find me a brother-in-law too."

"Then I'll have to be careful. I'll look for someone like Tan Guanghao, tall and handsome. If he's not handsome, I won't accept him."

"Ha, so you've taken a fancy to Tan Guanghao..."

"..."

The two were talking about lighthearted topics, but the atmosphere grew increasingly dull, and eventually neither of them spoke, making the meal tasteless.

After cleaning up the dishes and resting for more than half an hour, the two of them were fully armed with bulletproof vests, bulletproof helmets, bulletproof backpacks, and night vision goggles. Fearing that there might be devices restricting supernatural abilities in the base, they had packed a lot of guns and ammunition, as well as first aid kits and other items in their backpacks.

As they were about to set off, Pei Nansheng said, "How about I go and scout out the situation first?"

The feeling of panic grew stronger, and Pei Nansheng didn't want Zuo Ling to take the risk with him.

Zuo Ling patted him on the shoulder and said, "Stop talking nonsense and hurry up. If you're quick, you can still come back for a late-night snack."

With that, he rushed into the night.

"Hey, slow down." Pei Nansheng hurriedly followed.

It was nearly midnight, and the mountains were quiet, with only the faint moonlight illuminating the road ahead.

Two figures darted swiftly through the darkness, their toes barely touching the ground as they leaped and bounded, reaching the edge of a steep cliff.

They swung out the tiger claw steel cable to hook onto the rock, exchanged a glance, took a deep breath, and swooped down the cliff like large birds.

The wind whistled in her ears, and Zuo Ling recalled the first time she went down the cliff. It took her a full fifteen minutes to descend 200 meters, and she was even laughed at by the waterfall.

Recalling the past softened her expression, and her heart palpitations improved significantly.

A sudden tightening came from behind; the tiger claw steel cable was no longer long enough, and at the same time, Pei Nansheng's steel cable also reached the bottom.

Judging by sight, there is still more than 200 meters to the bottom of the cliff.

Pei Nansheng retracted the steel cable and looked at Zuo Ling. Zuo Ling put her hand on Pei Nansheng's shoulder, and the two jumped down. When they were still twenty meters away, they flashed into the space.

No one spoke. They closed their eyes and regulated their breathing for half a minute. With a single glance, they left the space.

A height of twenty meters is no longer a challenge for them.

The moment her feet touched the ground, a barely perceptible sensation spread through her body like an electric shock. Zuo Ling knew she was in trouble and, in a flash, moved herself and Pei Nansheng into the space.

Boom, boom, boom, boom... In an instant, the sound of explosions echoed through the night sky, and flames shot into the sky, illuminating the mountain scenery.

A piercing alarm sounded, five or six beams of light shot straight toward the explosion site, and hurried footsteps and voices filled the air.

"There has been an intrusion. Increase security."

"Stay at your post, and kill without mercy if you spot a target."

"They're coming from the north, snipers, get ready."

"..."

The explosion triggered a chain reaction, detonating nearby landmines one after another. The shockwaves kicked up waves of smoke and dust, and flames spread rapidly, turning half the sky red.

Looking at the commotion outside, Zuo Ling felt a pang of fear. If she hadn't reacted quickly, she and Pei Nansheng would have been torn to pieces.

A few crackling noises came through, followed by the sound of a loudspeaker:
