Yan Kun chuckled and said:
"The commander was worried that it was your first time leading a mission and that you might have some difficulties, so he sent me to check on you. That's why he specially approved some food for me to bring to everyone."
He told his guards to quickly unload the things they had brought from the car.
Two large baskets of fresh, juicy vegetables, two bulging bags of rice, and four plump, robust fish weighing five or six pounds each.
The soldiers gathered around, their faces full of surprise.
Wow, green vegetables!
"Haha, cucumbers, tomatoes, spinach, and lettuce... My goodness, the commander brought us so many vegetables, and even a big fish!"
Yan Kun said, "The fish were raised on our plantation. There weren't many in the first batch, and the commander asked me to bring four."
The soldiers thanked them in unison: "Thank you for your concern, Commander! We'll have fish to eat now!"
"Great! I can finally eat some vegetables. I felt so miserable without them."
"Company commander, let's cook a big pot of fish soup. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water."
Not to mention the soldiers, Xiao Hao was craving it too. Since joining the army, he truly felt how luxurious the days he spent with his older brothers and sisters had been.
That's like comparing heaven and earth!
"Okay! Let's make fish soup, a big bowl for everyone!" Xiao Hao readily agreed.
Cheers echoed through the valley.
"Oh, that's great!"
"We've got fish soup!"
"..."
The soldiers jumped for joy.
Without Xiao Hao's arrangement, everyone sprang into action on their own. Some were killing fish, some were busy starting fires, and some were washing and chopping vegetables. Everyone was doing their job, chatting and laughing as they worked, creating a vibrant scene.
Yan Kun was lost in thought. Xiao Hao called him a few times, but Yan Kun didn't hear him.
"Lieutenant Yan, what are you thinking about?"
"Ah, ah, no, I wasn't thinking about anything," Yan Kun said, trying to cover it up.
"You don't seem like someone who hasn't thought about anything."
"Ah, haha, I envy your youth. It's so good to be young, full of energy, just looking at you makes me happy."
Yan Kun's eyes flickered, and his words seemed to conceal something.
Xiao Hao didn't notice Yan Kun's subtle changes. He really enjoyed leading troops in the field. Although the burden on his shoulders was heavier and there were more things to worry about, he was happy for the soldiers after each victory, seeing their heartfelt joy. It was an emotion he had never experienced before.
Xiao Hao said proudly, "Our soldiers are all outstanding. They always charge forward with a roar, without any fear."
Yan Kun nodded. Yes, they were all excellent. He glanced at Xiao Hao out of the corner of his eye, and suddenly became somewhat gloomy.
A soldier ran in to report that the fish soup was ready.
Xiao Hao loudly announced that dinner was served, which was met with another round of cheers.
The entire camp was filled with the aroma of food.
The bonfire blazed brightly, warming everyone.
Everyone sat together, enjoying the delicious fish soup, chatting and laughing, having a very pleasant time.
The two guards who came with Yan Kun glanced at him. Yan Kun silently finished his rice and vegetables, but didn't touch the fish soup.
Xiao Hao suddenly felt a wave of dizziness wash over him. He struggled to stay awake, but the scenery in front of him became increasingly blurry, and he gradually lost control of his limbs.
Alarm bells rang in his mind, "Something's not right..."
The alert soldier turned his head toward Xiao Hao, as if he wanted to say something.
As Xiao Hao watched them fall to the ground one after another, the bowl in his hand slipped, spilling soup and water all over the ground, turning the once tidy campsite into a mess in an instant.
"There's a spy!"
Xiao Hao shouted it out with all his might.
He thought he was very loud, but in reality, his voice was so soft it was barely audible.
In the blur, he saw Yan Kun approaching him step by step, the dark muzzle of his gun radiating a dangerous signal.
The guards who came with him, along with two members of his own team, surrounded Xiao Hao.
Xiao Hao was startled, but quickly regained some of his composure: "You, it's you!"
Yan Kun's expression was complicated. "We have no grudge against each other. I'm just following orders. Every wrong has its perpetrator, and every debt its debtor. When you get down there, don't go looking for the wrong person."
"Why? Let me die knowing why."
Xiao Hao felt his consciousness fading away. He desperately pinched his thigh, trying to wake himself up with pain, but his body felt as if it had been drained, becoming increasingly weak and powerless.
"Why... well, it's a long story. Just accept your fate. Who told you to have two troublesome older brothers and sisters?"
Having said that, he was about to pull the trigger when suddenly a sharp pain shot through his head, blood gushed from his eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, and his hand went out of control. "You..."
Two guards and Xiao Hao's two teammates fell to the ground one after another.
On his deathbed, Yan Kun finally understood many things. It turned out that the person in the file who could kill without leaving a trace was Xiao Hao!
But it was too late!
He really regrets it; he should have killed Xiao Hao immediately.
Using up his last bit of supernatural power, Xiao Hao killed five people before everything went black and he passed out.
The night wind was chilly. After an unknown amount of time, Xiao Hao gradually regained consciousness, but his head was still throbbing with pain.
Yan Kun had witnessed Xiao Hao's skills and was afraid that he wouldn't be able to subdue Xiao Hao, so he put a dose of drug in the fish soup that would be enough to subdue an elephant. If it weren't for Xiao Hao's extraordinary physical condition, he wouldn't have woken up yet.
I struggled to my feet, my body swaying. The entire camp was deathly silent, with only the faint starlight barely illuminating the surroundings.
In the dim light, one could see figures lying haphazardly all over the ground.
The sounds of laughter and joy still echo in my ears, but everything has changed.
Xiao Hao was young, and faced with such a sudden change, he was at a loss and his eyes turned red.
