Mei Yanqing looked tired, pinched the bridge of her nose, and looked at Professor Jin.
Professor Jin was very self-aware and took the initiative to say to Zhao Hongyi:
"You two talk, I'll wait outside."
He had a vague feeling that things were not going well. Even Zuo Ling, who had made great contributions to the base, was not treated with any leniency by Mei Yanqing, let alone himself.
Professor Jin deliberately walked further away, his steps unusually heavy.
This was his first time stepping onto an aircraft carrier. Looking down from above, he felt a surge of exhilarating pride and a sense of control over everything.
Power is the most unpredictable makeup artist in the world. The kind and amiable Chief Mei in his memory is so unfamiliar that he can hardly recognize her.
As Professor Jin's footsteps faded into the distance, Mei Yanqing pointed to the sofa:
"Sit down, don't just stand there like a silly little blanket, do you want to fight me or something?"
He sat down at the other end, casually tossing Zhao Hongyi a cigarette, lit one for himself, took a deep drag, and exhaled a long smoke ring as if exhaling stale air. The smoke dissipated, and his face was vaguely visible through the smoke, instantly revealing the distance of his high position, which calmed Zhao Hongyi down a bit.
He plopped down on the sofa, still somewhat emotional, and said:
"The base is counting on Zuo Ling. You put her brother on the wanted list. What do you think she'll think? Does she still want him to work for her?"
Mei Yanqing leaned back on the sofa and said slowly, "She... won't be coming back."
"What did you say?" Zhao Hongyi jumped to his feet in shock. "Wh...what do you mean? What do you mean we can't come back?"
"It means what you heard."
Mei Yanqing suddenly sat up straight, forcefully stubbed out the cigarette he had only taken two puffs of, and a fierce glint flashed in his eyes.
"Explain yourself clearly, what exactly happened?"
Zhao Hongyi and Mei Yanqing grew up together and had an extraordinary relationship; otherwise, Mei Yanqing would not have entrusted him with all the logistics matters.
“As far as I know, she and Pei Nansheng are already trapped. It’s all because she offended the wrong person. Ha,” Mei Yanqing changed the subject, “Even if she hadn’t offended anyone, I still wouldn’t let her live.”
Zhao Hongyi felt a chill run through his body, "You..."
Mei Yanqing waved his hand to stop Zhao Hongyi:
"It's just that she was born into the wrong family. Of all the people she could have been born into, she had to be born into the Bai family. Since I'm competing with Bai Liguo, I naturally can't tolerate her."
"Are you mistaken? How could she be a member of the Bai family? Isn't she a member of the Ding family?"
Zhao Hongyi was very surprised.
"She is the daughter of Bai Liguo's younger sister, Bai Qian. For some reason, Bai Liguo has never acknowledged her. Zuo Ling probably doesn't know this yet."
Mei Yanqing explained.
Zuo Ling is actually Bai Liguo's own niece!
Zhao Hongyi closed his eyes. Old Mei was vying for power in China with the Bai family, so naturally he couldn't let go of Zuo Ling, who was a direct blood relative of Bai Liguo. This matter couldn't be resolved. Zhao Hongyi left Mei Yanqing's office as if he were in a daze.
Professor Jin hurried over, his face full of anxiety: "How is it?"
Zhao Hongyi didn't say anything, and walked out stiffly.
Professor Jin quickly reached out and grabbed him, pressing him again: "What did Chief Mei say? Give me an answer."
Zhao Hongyi opened his mouth, unsure of what to say. The news he had just heard was too shocking, and he hadn't fully processed it yet.
Upon catching sight of Mei Yanqing standing at the doorway watching them, Zhao Hongyi tensed up and whispered:
"Let's talk about this after we leave here."
Noticing Zhao Hongyi's odd expression, Professor Jin followed his gaze and saw Mei Yanqing smiling and giving them a look of respect.
In an instant, the kind and approachable old man returned.
After leaving the aircraft carrier's monitored area, Zhao Hongyi stopped and turned to Professor Jin, saying:
"If you want to save your life, then stop interfering in Xiao Hao's affairs."
After saying that, he ignored Professor Jin and left on his own.
Professor Jin was struck dumb, standing there in a daze.
After a long while, he finally came to his senses. Xiao Hao was someone he had watched grow up like a grandson, how could he not care? But he had no official position or authority, how could he possibly care?
The highest-ranking official he knew was Zhao Hongyi. If even Zhao Hongyi couldn't persuade Chief Mei, who could possibly change Chief Mei's mind?
Professor Jin couldn't understand why things had turned out this way; he felt desperate, lost, and helpless.
Zhao Hongyi was in a state of turmoil and did not return to his office, but went straight back to his residence.
As a major general in charge of logistics at the base, his residence was set up on a specially modified small yacht. Although the yacht was small, it was more than enough for him to live alone.
He didn't like living in the lower deck; his bedroom was located behind the cockpit. The room wasn't big, but it was furnished quite cozy.
Exhausted, I collapsed onto the bed, not wanting to think about anything, and afraid to think about anything.
Half asleep and half awake, an unusual noise broke the silence. Zhao Hongyi's nerves tensed instantly, and he sat up alertly, his sharp eyes scanning his surroundings.
The door creaked open, and Zhao Hongyi's heart raced. He reached for his gun, only to find a cold, hard object pressed against the back of his head.
"You'd better not touch me like that."
Zhao Hongyi froze, and asked in a low voice, "Who are you? What do you want?"
The room wasn't big, and he didn't even figure out how the person got in.
The man chuckled, "Your guest isn't me."
The door was pushed open, and Zhao Hongyi's eyes widened: "Bai... Bai Liguo!"
The person Lao Mei had been searching for had actually appeared on his yacht. Zhao Hongyi looked out the window and saw a group of soldiers patrolling not far away.
Suddenly, several gunshots rang out, and the soldiers ran towards the source of the gunfire. Then, gunshots rang out from all directions, and the once peaceful base was thrown into chaos.
