Thinking her brother would be depressed for a few days, Pei Nansheng emerged from his room in the evening, his eyes red and swollen, after handling their mother's funeral arrangements. He asked Zuo Ling:
"Have you decided how we're going to get out?"
Zuo Ling: ? ?
"Are you... alright?"
Pei Nansheng is different from her. He grew up with his mother and has a very good relationship with her. How did he recover so quickly?
"It was an outcome I had long anticipated. After the tears, it's over. For my mother, death is a relief, the best ending for her."
Pei Nansheng spoke calmly, even somewhat indifferently.
Zuo Ling knew that those weren't her brother's true feelings; perhaps they were half and half.
Looking at the empty space, Pei Nansheng asked, "Is there any movement outside?"
"Um."
Ding Xiaoya knocked on the cold, heavy iron door intermittently, the sound echoing in the silent tunnel.
There was a small window in the iron gate, which was pitch black inside, like a bottomless abyss, exuding a chilling silence.
He frowned, wondering to himself, "Are they really trapped inside?"
The pungent, putrid stench mixed with dampness made her instinctively cover her mouth and nose.
A sudden voice rang out: "What are you doing here?"
Immediately afterwards, a dazzling light suddenly shone, and Ding Xiaoya's vision blurred.
Upon closer inspection, it was indeed Zuo Ling and Pei Nansheng.
Finding that the two were not as disheveled as he had imagined, he felt a slight sense of disappointment.
"What, did I disappoint you?"
Zuo Ling seemed to be able to see through her inner thoughts.
Ding Xiaoya and her second uncle deceived them together, and the two sides are now on opposing sides.
Unexpectedly, Zuo Ling was so blunt. Ding Xiaoya was taken aback at first, then burst into laughter:
"No, I'm not disappointed at all. Seeing you two like poor ground squirrels, locked up in a dark, sunless dungeon, I'm overjoyed!"
"You hate us?"
Zuo Ling stared intently at Ding Xiaoya, trying to catch a glimpse of genuine emotion in her eyes.
Ding Xiaoya's face suddenly contorted into a grotesque grimace. She frantically pounded on the iron gate, screaming hysterically:
"Hate, ha! Shouldn't I hate you all? Damn it, do you even know what you've done!"
Her voice was filled with resentment and pain, as if she wanted to vent all her dissatisfaction.
She was originally the pride of the Ding family, but because of two traitors, her life was turned upside down. Thinking about what she had experienced over the years, Ding Xiaoya wished she could skin Zuo Ling and Pei Nansheng alive.
Zuo Ling looked at her coldly, without responding.
Ding Xiaoya looked at Pei Nansheng, pointed at Zuo Ling, and asked:
“She was abandoned as a child, so it’s understandable that she hates the Ding family. But what about you? The Ding family has treated you well, so why did you do that?”
Pei Nansheng's expression was complicated. He had tried his best to control the scope of his revenge, but no matter what he did, innocent people would be hurt. Ding Xiaoya was a victim of his revenge, so it was understandable that she hated him.
"It's just that you think it's generous. Do you know that the Ding family is conducting experiments to steal other people's supernatural abilities?"
"What does that have to do with you! It's not like it was yours to be plundered."
Ding Xiaoya screamed wildly.
Pei Nansheng remained silent; he couldn't bring himself to speak about his rebirth.
Ding Xiaoya's question made him re-examine himself. If it were someone else, like Zuo Ling, he would have stood by and done nothing.
It doesn't hurt unless it happens to you personally!
Ding Xiaoya sneered:
"What a moral guardian you are! You ruined the Ding family for others. Do you know how I've suffered all these years? It's all because of you, because of you two, because of you two traitorous wolf cubs! Hahaha... Do you know who I've taken my revenge on for all that I've suffered? Hahahaha..."
Ding Xiaoya laughed until tears streamed down her face.
Pei Nansheng's expression changed drastically.
