Chapter 42 Another Trap

The lean man quickly stopped her:

"Sister, don't be angry. I was just checking. It was my mistake. I apologize. Please calm down."

Zuo Ling wasn't really angry; the other person was offering her a way out, so she took the opportunity to back down.

The lean man led Zuo Ling to an empty room in the service area, made her a cup of tea, and handed it to her.

"Ma'am, please wait a moment, I'll process your paperwork right away."

He made several phone calls, and in one of them asked Zuo Ling:

"Ma'am, would you like us to arrange a delivery for you?"

Zuo Ling said no.

The formalities were completed quickly, and each type of gasoline and diesel had its own receipt, with the quantity and price clearly marked.

The buyer on the list is a certain food factory.

"Ma'am, take this receipt to the factory to pick up your goods. The clerk will record the quantity on the receipt and give you a return slip. After the checkpoint verifies everything, they will collect payment based on the quantity picked up."

He smiled ingratiatingly and said:

"It'll be more reassuring if we're delayed at the checkpoint, right?"

Indeed, there's no way to benefit from both sides.

The oil depot is more than 20 kilometers away from the gas station.

Zuo Ling's truck was too small, and it took him more than ten trips to haul away all the oil.

Each time they make a trip, they circle around outside and then come back to load up a truck.

Apart from a slight delay at the checkpoint where verification and payment took place, everything else went smoothly.

Just as I was about to breathe a sigh of relief after the last load was finished, someone stopped me.

Two policemen and several military police officers wearing armbands stopped her. Zuo Ling's mind suddenly cleared.

Open the car door and get out calmly:

"Officer, is there something wrong?"

One policeman had a dark expression, while the other was more amiable.

The stern-faced policeman said, "It's a random safety check. Open the trunk; we need to inspect it."

Zuo Ling obediently opened the trunk.

The carriage was completely empty!

The dark-faced policeman couldn't believe what he was seeing. He subconsciously rubbed his eyes and looked again.

The few officers stirred for a moment, but quickly calmed down, staring wide-eyed at how the dark-faced policeman would proceed.

Zuo Ling sneered. The checkpoint was located two traffic lights away from the checkpoint.

After passing the first traffic light, she put all the oil drums into her storage space.

It wasn't that she had foresight; it was that she was cowardly. She always felt that the back of the truck was full of oil drums, which was no different from carrying a truck full of bombs.

She was afraid that some clueless young man would run into her and lose his life, so this was a lucky accident.

"Officer, it's not illegal to have an empty train carriage, is it?"

Realizing she had been set up, Zuo Ling's tone turned sour.

She was willing to believe that the vast majority of police officers were good, but there were always a few bad apples mixed in.

The dark-faced policeman was speechless. He had worked with the lean-faced man many times before, and there had never been a mistake.

Is he seeing a ghost today? Or is that skinny face playing a trick on him?

To demonstrate impartiality in law enforcement, he specifically brought his colleagues to witness the proceedings.

As a result, we witnessed an empty train carriage!

Zuo Ling was certain that the stern-faced policeman wouldn't dare take her to the oil factory for a face-to-face confrontation.

The oil vendors were taking advantage of her being an outsider, wanting both money and oil. It was clearly a trap, no wonder they sold it so cheaply!

They dared not make a big fuss and expose their own secrets.

If there is fuel in the vehicle, they will confiscate it under the pretext of verification and require the food factory to send someone to cooperate with the investigation.

The investigation was a pretense; the real purpose was to take away the oil.

Zuo Ling's purchase of oil under someone else's name was illegal, so she had no choice but to suffer in silence.

I can't help but think of Yang Chengang; Brother Yang is still the most reliable.

The mild-mannered policeman, with a knowing look on his face, smiled and said, "Of course, please continue on your way, and be careful."

Zuo Ling said, "Thank you."

He glanced meaningfully at the dark-faced policeman, then turned and got into the car.

As I left, I politely honked my horn.

The dark-faced policeman knew perfectly well that Zuo Ling was provoking him.

After Zuo Ling left, the gentle-faced policeman glanced at the dark-faced policeman, said nothing, and left on his own.

The dark-faced policeman stood frozen in place, his expression grim. After his colleague had walked away, he took out his phone and made a call.

The moment the call connected, he immediately started yelling, "Are you fucking playing me?! I think you're asking for trouble."

The skinny man looked confused: "Brother Zhang, what do you mean?"

"What do you mean? What do you mean? An empty carriage, what the hell are you asking me to check? Losing face is a small matter, losing my skin is a big deal. If I'm not having a good time, you won't have a good time either."

The person with a very thin face was inexplicably criticized:

"That's not right, Brother Zhang. There must be cargo. The truck is full of oil. How can it be empty? Are you sure you're not mistaken?"

The black-faced policeman was even angrier:

"I'm blind, I can't see a whole truckload of oil. Don't believe me? Ask your brother."

He angrily handed the phone to one of the guards.

The inspector confirmed: "Brother, it's an empty carriage. Are you sure you haven't made a mistake?"

"Impossible. The oil refinery made it very clear that I only called you after the last truckload of oil was loaded."

The inspector said:

“Brother, it’s a straight road with two traffic lights. The first traffic light is at a T-junction, and she didn’t turn. Where could the oil have been hidden? It’s definitely an empty car.”

The thin-faced man was completely bewildered, unable to figure out what had gone wrong.

Zuo Ling escaped unharmed, but was drenched in a cold sweat. The lean-faced man gave her a good lesson.

I originally wanted to stock up on some local specialties in Longzhou, but after being framed, I lost all interest and just wanted to leave as soon as possible.

On the way, I saw a coal mine. Still angry about being tricked, I turned around and went to the coal mine.

While buying honeycomb briquettes at the gate, I learned by chance that you can load lump coal onto your own truck. I'd like to go and see if it's the same for coal from Longzhou.

She could load the truck herself, huh! Her anger finally found an outlet.
