Chapter 98 Teaming Up Again

Traffic lights were rendered useless, traffic rules vanished overnight, and vehicles of all sizes crisscrossed the streets quickly and cautiously.

Fortunately, the snow was heavy and the weather was cold, so there were few people and cars on the streets; otherwise, there would have been many traffic accidents.

Professor Jin murmured:

"If the capital city has become like this, what must it be like outside?"

Zuo Ling didn't reply and silently drove.

The place they were going to was still the villa area owned by Professor Jin's son.

The two had walked more than half the distance, and all the broken branches and twigs along the way had been picked up by others.

After searching for a long time, the military net bag wasn't even full.

They exchanged a glance, understood each other's intentions, and proceeded to saw the tree.

After sawing down a tree, Zuo Ling said:

"Just fill the net bag, leave some space to see what your son's friend has. If it's not full, we'll saw it when we get back."

Having reached an agreement, they then headed towards the villa area.

The neighborhood was eerily quiet, and there were no security guards on duty. Zuo Ling had a bad feeling.

I first went to Professor Jin's son's house and found all four doors wide open, clearly indicating that it had been ransacked.

The items that weren't taken last time—the lady of the house's bags and shoes, the gentleman's clothes, household appliances, furniture, and even the car in the garage—are all gone.

It wasn't just Professor Jin's son's family that was looted; two other villas along the way also showed signs of having been burgled.

Professor Jin's face was so dark it could drip rain. He went to his study, and when he came back with a package in his hand, his expression softened a bit.

Zuo Ling didn't ask what it was, but guessed it was something like a hidden compartment in the study.

Having given up hope on the trip, I thought I'd go back and cut down a whole trainload of timber, so the trip wouldn't have been in vain.

With the thought of going to take a look, I arrived at the door of the doomsday theorist.

Upon closer inspection, two human figures appeared, like ice sculptures stuck to the tightly closed door.

After circling around the doomsday theorists for a long time, they found several more corpses.

The ice sculpture and the other corpses were likely killed by electrocution.

What a relief, the doomsday theorists haven't been caught yet.

Zuo Ling watched Professor Jin's movements; she didn't want to be electrocuted into an ice sculpture.

Professor Jin then took out something that looked like a remote control and pressed a few buttons on the door.

The red light flashed, then the green light stayed on... and the door opened.

Zuo Ling stared wide-eyed, surprised that it was so simple! She suddenly realized that her home's security door was no longer safe.

The ice sculpture was an eyesore, so Professor Jin swung his entrenching tool twice to remove it and then gave it a cool kick.

He intended to kick the obstruction a few meters away, but he couldn't move it. Instead, he hurt his foot, grimacing and jumping up and down.

Zuo Ling suppressed a laugh and helped him by kicking the ice sculpture into the snowdrift.

Professor Jin was embarrassed and touched his nose as he walked inside.

Zuo Ling drove the car into the yard, got out, closed the gate, and bolted it to prevent any unsuspecting people from barging in while she was organizing the supplies.

Having just lost face, Professor Jin decided to play a prank.

After pressing a few buttons on the remote control, the door clicked and emitted a pleasant musical sound, while the colored lights flashed and the words "Caution: Electricity" appeared.

The sudden noise startled Zuo Ling, who retreated repeatedly, fearing she would bump into the door and be electrocuted.

Professor Jin's orange-peel-like face broke into a wide grin, making him look like a mischievous old man.

I may not be as good as you at fighting, but as for everything else, hmph! You're far inferior to this old man.
