Zuo Ling took out her sniper rifle. She had never used a sniper rifle before, so this was a good opportunity to practice.
Standing on the north balcony, the distance to shoot towards the entrance of Building 5 is just right.
He fired five shots without hitting anyone, but he wasn't discouraged and kept shooting. On the tenth shot, he finally got the hang of it.
One falls, then another... the more you play, the better your feel for the game gets.
Some people looked back, trying to find where the shooting was taking place.
What are you looking at? If you look, I'll shoot your eyeballs.
With a loud cry, he covered his eyes and rolled around on the ground... Zuo Ling felt sorry for him.
Realizing that there were people supporting them in Building 3, the people in Building 5 resisted even more fiercely. The mob was caught in a pincer movement and retreated to Building 4.
The second building continued firing at the rioters, who, having nowhere to hide, began to retreat.
In front of the main gate of the residential area, the bodies were piled up like a small mountain, all of them belonging to rioters who had looted supplies and were trying to escape from the community.
Unable to exit through the main gate, the rioters climbed over the walls, while those who couldn't climb over sought other exits.
Building 3 is close to the East Gate, and many rioters wanted to rush out through the East Gate.
Zuo Ling fired shot by shot, and she discovered that, besides her, there were other people firing in Building 3, but it wasn't Professor Jin.
The battle lasted for more than three hours, with sporadic gunfire in the neighborhood before gradually subsiding.
People from Building 2 came out, leading community security guards and some thugs to clear out the remaining rioters.
After putting down the gun, Zuo Ling felt a soreness in her arm. She rubbed it a few times, yawned, and, feeling extremely sleepy, went to bed.
The waterfall seized the opportunity and plunged into Zuo Ling's arms, insisting that Zuo Ling hold it while it slept.
Pat it gently, like you would a child, and soothe it as well. Before long, it fell into a deep sleep.
Zuo Ling was fast asleep when she was woken up by a loudspeaker outside. Listening carefully, she heard the property management ordering residents to come downstairs to remove the body.
Pulling back a corner of the curtain, I saw that all the streetlights in the neighborhood were on, creating a scene of great prosperity and bright lights.
This is the first time the property management has been so generous since the complete power, water, and gas outages.
Normally, it's good enough if there's one light in each of the four corners.
The body downstairs was covered by heavy snow, and only irregular bulges could be seen; the bloodstains had faded.
After washing up and leisurely eating breakfast, I went downstairs yawning.
Hearing the sound of people coming downstairs, Professor Jin and his wife followed behind Zuo Ling.
They exchanged a glance and nodded, which was considered a greeting.
Zuo Ling went to the underground garage to get a tricycle, and using the garage as cover, she took out another tricycle.
She didn't want to go through the trouble of unpacking the carriage and then reinstalling it.
Outside each building, property management staff directed the collection of bodies, and the romantic snowfall largely concealed the bloody scene.
The body was frozen stiff and incredibly heavy. Zuo Ling gestured for Professor Jin and his wife to help her load the body onto the tricycle.
Many people in the building came down to clean up the body. Most people were afraid of the body, while a few remained expressionless, but they all persisted and remained silent.
Taking advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention, Zuo Ling stored all the arrows she could into her spatial storage.
While collecting the arrows, she discovered that many of the corpses had wooden chopsticks stuck in them instead of nails—the most common and cheapest wooden chopsticks used in ordinary restaurants.
Professor Jin is a genius! He can even use such ordinary chopsticks to kill people!
He leaned closer to the old man and whispered:
"How about you make me two of the crossbows you use, and I'll trade you bamboo for them?"
Bamboo chopsticks are much sharper than wooden ones; the elderly will definitely be interested.
Professor Jin glanced at her: "You have bamboo? I need the long ones, not the short ones."
"no problem."
Zuo Ling dug up a lot of bamboo in her space. For her, bamboo is a renewable resource and much cheaper than nails, although making bamboo nails is laborious.
She pondered what tools she could use in the space that could help her achieve her goal with less effort.
An agreement was reached to continue moving the bodies.
Having suffered such a great calamity, Zuo Ling thought that today she would see many people crying out to heaven and lamenting the injustice of fate.
But there are none, or almost none.
Intermittent crying could be heard from only a few rooms.
The damaged unit was so quiet it looked like no one lived there; the oppressive atmosphere was suffocating.
There were too many bodies, so the property management decided to take them to the square and burn them.
Thousands of corpses, piled up like frozen meat, were a sight that sent chills down one's spine.
A middle-aged woman with a bruised and swollen face, her eyes red, was pulling and tugging at He Guizi:
“My family’s belongings were stolen, and my son, grandson, and daughter-in-law were all injured. Your property management company should be held responsible.”
He Guizi said coldly:
"I know you. Last time at the homeowners' meeting, your family was the biggest troublemaker, saying you couldn't spare anyone for patrols. Humph, now look at you, can you spare anyone now?"
The older woman sat on the ground and threw a tantrum:
"Good heavens, we can't go on like this! We've paid so much in property management fees, and nobody cares! Everyone, please be the judge..."
He Guizi coldly swept his gaze across the onlookers:
"Who wants to judge? Hmph, the apocalypse is here. After last night's bloodshed, everyone should know that the meager property management fees are not enough to keep everyone safe. Don't say we can't, even if you piled up a mountain of gold here, no one could guarantee our safety."
The old lady jumped up in a flash:
"What do you mean? Are you saying that we've been paying property management fees for nothing? Shouldn't we ask you for a refund? Everyone, do you agree?"
She thought someone would respond to her, but instead, everyone remained silent.
He Guizi sneered:
"With your meager property management fees, we really can't provide the services to ensure your safety. If you don't like living in Noah's Ark, feel free to move out. Don't worry, someone else will move in the moment you leave."
"Oh dear, the world has changed! There's nowhere to seek justice anymore! What can we do?"
