Chapter 1: The baby looks completely bewildered.

"Um?"

Ji Yueyao stood up, staring blankly at the desolate scenery around her. "Where...is this?"

The wind was biting cold all around, and the landscape was desolate, covered with a black, disgusting mess. Ji Yueyao lifted her foot and realized she was stepping on the sticky, disgusting stuff, but being a clean freak, she couldn't care less about the nausea at the moment.

"What's going on?" Rubbing her arms, which were stiff from the cold wind, Ji Yueyao mustered her courage and took a few steps in the unknown direction.

She's a senior high school student. Having just finished her first mock exam, she was preparing to work even harder to get into her dream school, so she made sure to memorize vocabulary words before leaving home this morning. Unfortunately, she had some bad luck today; she missed a step while going downstairs and fell hard. After getting up, she found herself in this place.

Could it be time travel?!

Ji Yueyao was completely bewildered.

When she was in her second year of high school, she read all kinds of time-travel novels and sometimes fantasized about time-traveling herself. But when it actually happened to her, she... really couldn't accept it. Anyone would feel uncomfortable if they suddenly found themselves in an unfamiliar environment!

Is this some ancient era? An alternate history? Or perhaps the Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, or Qing dynasties?

Ji Yueyao shook her head. She didn't have the mind to think about these things now. What would happen to her parents? What would happen to her loving family? And... what should she do now?

Ji Yueyao clutched her head, feeling like she was about to collapse.

Wait, the sound of a car ahead made her look up. Did they have cars in ancient times? That thing driving straight ahead... is it a car?

Ji Yueyao looked closely and, after confirming it was a car, felt a surge of excitement. Without thinking twice, she ran towards the car, shouting, "Wait, please wait!"

Her voice was filled with anxiety, a shrill sound that seemed to pierce the sky in this desolate land.

"Hey boss, look over there's a woman." A man in the car yawned, glanced at the girl running towards them, and looked uninterested. "A woman who dares to walk in the wasteland... is she looking for death?"

The man sitting opposite Mu Yanxuan seemed to have no interest in even looking up. He lowered his eyes and wiped his beloved gun, his handsome face devoid of any emotion, as if there was nothing in the world that could arouse his interest.

"Ignore her."

The cold voice was devoid of any emotion. The man sitting opposite him curled his lip. This guy really didn't know anything about chivalry. But...

Ling Yang turned around and whistled at the driver: "Don't worry about anything, just drive. How much longer until we get to the military region?"

"Yes." The driver remained unmoved, stepped on the gas, and sped up the car. "There's still a day's journey to go."

"Oh, there's still one day left, boss. You... um?" Ling Yang looked out the car window, a hint of interest in his eyes. "Boss, is that woman still pursuing you?"

Ji Yueyao felt like she was running so hard she could hardly breathe. Her chest ached, and the heavy backpack on her back felt like it was going to break her shoulders. Why didn't that bastard in the car stop?!

After hesitating for a moment, Ji Yueyao took out her water bottle and wallet from her schoolbag, then casually threw the schoolbag on the ground. She gritted her teeth; throwing away the schoolbag was more painful than throwing away her life. There were many important points highlighted by the teacher in the workbook inside!

I'll have to wait until I catch up with the car and come back to get it.

Looking at the water bottle and wallet in her hand, Ji Yueyao twitched her lips. She took the water bottle because she needed to drink water in this desolate place, and taking the wallet... was purely out of instinct.

She really does love money... Wait, is this the time to be thinking about these things?!

Watching the car drive further and further away, Ji Yueyao staggered in frustration. Why wasn't that car stopping?

My lungs are about to explode.

Ji Yueyao felt a sharp pain in her foot, as if she had kicked something, and she staggered and fell to the ground.

"It hurts..." Her skin rubbed against the ground, and blood immediately seeped out. Spoiled since childhood, Ji Yueyao couldn't bear this crying. At this moment, the panic in her heart and the pain in her hand made her eyes redden.

But before she could get up from the ground, something suddenly grabbed her neck and choked her. She gasped for breath and, filled with fear, struggled desperately to get up.

Out of the corner of her eye, Ji Yueyao caught sight of a huge, dark gray figure and a head reaching out. Her heart skipped a beat. What was that?!

"Bang—" A gunshot ripped through the sky. Ji Yueyao only realized that the head of the monster next to her had exploded, and sticky flesh and blood covered her. Her mind went blank, and she had no idea how to react.

"Tsk, so he knows how to be a hero and save the damsel in distress now." Ling Yang raised an eyebrow as he looked at Mu Yanxuan, who had withdrawn his gun.

Mu Yanxuan didn't speak, but glanced at Ling Yang, who immediately became obedient.

The boss's eyes are so fierce, aren't they? Is teasing the boss really a death wish?

As the vehicles drove away, Ji Yueyao stood there, stunned. Her neck, which had been gripped, was still very painful, but she could do nothing but gasp for breath.

Just now... was that a gunshot? Then this...

Ji Yueyao turned and glanced at the monster lying on the ground. Her pupils dilated suddenly, and her legs gave way, causing her to sit down on the ground.

The monster lying on the ground in a ferocious posture clearly had a human body, but its skin was dark gray, and... looking at its bloody and mangled head, Ji Yueyao almost vomited. The thing's neck was a full half meter long, and blood was still gushing from its smashed head. On the other half of its face, a ferocious eyeball was about to fall off, and the dead man's pitch-black pupil stared straight in her direction.

"Oh my god!" Ji Yueyao felt as if everything that had just happened was a dream, and she was currently in a nightmare.

Can anyone tell her what's going on?!
