Ji Yueyao was speechless as she looked at the large scratch on her thigh caused by a tree branch. She raised her hand to try to cover the blood that was slowly flowing out, but it was no use. The blood continued to gush out from between her fingers.
Not only her thighs, but her whole body was covered in scratches, some deeper than others, and some splinters were still stuck in the wounds, causing her excruciating pain.
This is terrible. Ji Yueyao pouted, took off her coat, took out a dagger and cut off her sleeve, then tightly bound the most serious wound on her thigh. She'd just leave it like this for now; she couldn't let the blood keep flowing, could she?
She tried to sit up, but the movement aggravated her wound, causing her to grit her teeth in pain.
Looking up at the dark trees overhead, Ji Yueyao's eyes were filled with complex emotions. Were they kidding her? There was actually a forest underground? The soil beneath her feet had just tumbled, and before she could react, she fell down, getting caught on a bunch of thorny branches, and then plummeted straight down from the middle of the thorns.
With a sigh, she took out a spare flashlight from her backpack and tried to pull out the bunch of thorns stuck in her arm. Some of them were already broken off and embedded in her flesh, so she didn't bother with them. She couldn't squeeze them out anyway, and she couldn't very well pick them out with her hands, could she?
Looking around, I couldn't find any termites. Where did they go? Didn't they fall down with me?
Ji Yueyao shone his flashlight around, but there was basically nothing around except for these thorny trees.
*Sizzle*... Ji Yueyao wrapped the hand holding the flashlight around her arm, the wound on her arm throbbing with pain, and she found it very difficult to even lift her arm.
My whole body was in pain... but all the noise in my brain disappeared, as if there wasn't a single living creature in this place, it was eerily quiet.
Ji Yueyao scrambled to her feet, looking rather disheveled, and gritted her teeth, deciding to move forward first. She wondered if the termites had come down yet… but her face was in pain; she was now disfigured.
Ji Yueyao touched her cheek and felt it was wet. When she took her hand off, it was covered in blood. She didn't even need to look in a mirror to know that her face was covered in injuries.
She was covering her head when she fell, so some parts of her face were inevitably injured.
But now is not the time to dwell on these things... Ji Yueyao looked at the unknown forest ahead, took a deep breath, closed her eyes, and then searched her mind for that crisp sound from before.
"I'm here." The voice suddenly spoke. Ji Yueyao opened her eyes, looked around, and didn't see a ghost.
"Where?" She was completely bewildered, and the chilling darkness of the forest sent a shiver down her spine.
"Look down, look down!" the voice hummed. Ji Yueyao looked down and saw a skeletal human head with empty eye sockets staring straight at her.
"..." Ji Yueyao was startled and took two steps back, jumping up and down.
"Hey, hey, hey, do you have to be so scared?" The skull's voice was full of disdain. Then Ji Yueyao saw something move inside the skull. Ji Yueyao's heart skipped a beat. Damn it, anyone would react the same way if they saw a talking skull.
What kind of world is this? It's terrifying.
Something seemed to move around in the eye sockets of the human skull. Ji Yueyao looked closely and found that they were two large, crystal-blue eyes. The eyes were beautiful, but paired with this skull... Ji Yueyao was very curious about how the eyes could move around in his empty skull.
"I'm not a human skull," the human skull grumbled.
"You'd be crazy if you had a human brain," Ji Yueyao thought to herself.
"I am the skull of an alien," the human skull said proudly.
"..." You'd be better off with a human brain. Ji Yueyao remained silent.
"Will an alien live like you after it dies?" Ji Yueyao asked, looking at the skull that kept blinking.
The human skull continued to roll its eyes, the pale blue light appearing exceptionally beautiful in the darkness. "Don't compare me to those trashy superhumans. I am the direct descendant of an extremely powerful superhuman."
Super-powerful type? Ji Yueyao raised an eyebrow. This was the strongest aberrant type.
"Then how did you end up like this?" Ji Yueyao asked, puzzled.
The skull looked very disappointed when the question was raised. After a moment of silence, his suppressed voice finally reached Ji Yueyao's mind, "My parents wouldn't let me leave this forest, but I always wanted to go out and see the world, so I secretly ran away on my birthday."
The parents of the superhumans? At this moment, Ji Yueyao suddenly felt that these superhumans and humans were actually quite similar. After all, they were all originally humans who had mutated.
"But because I am too young and my power is not yet complete, I, with my noble body, have become the object of contention among these trash outside. Over time, all I have left is this head and my mind," the alien skull said softly.
"So that's why you want me to take you away from here? Don't you want to go back to your parents?"
"How can I go back in this state? Besides, they are in the deepest part of the forest. You and I simply cannot get in now." The strange skull's crystal blue eyes dimmed slightly, and its voice was low and very sad.
Hearing this, Ji Yueyao sighed. Perhaps she could understand its feelings; she too longed for her family but had no way to go home to see them. After thinking for a moment, Ji Yueyao reached out and picked up the skull of the strange being.
"What are you doing? Who told you to touch me? Put me down right now!" The alien skull was a little agitated, and the voice that reached Ji Yueyao's mind trembled slightly, as if... it was shy.
"You want me to take you out of the forest, but you won't let me touch you? Fine then." Ji Yueyao raised an eyebrow, then seemed to be about to throw him away, startling the strange man's skull. "No... don't throw me, I'm afraid of heights!"
"..." You have so many troublesome things to do.
Ji Yueyao sighed and casually stuffed the bone into her backpack. Just as the alien skull was about to say something, Ji Yueyao said in a low voice, "Follow me for now. I'll take you to see the outside world. After I become very strong, I'll take you deep into the forest to find your family. In exchange, you have to behave yourself. If you dare to dart your eyeballs around and scare people, I'll throw you high in the air."
The skull of the strange man suddenly shone with a bright blue light, like watery pearls, but no more tears could flow from its dry eye sockets... It remained silent for a moment, leaving only one word in Ji Yueyao's mind.
"Hmm." Also... I won't go around scaring people.
"You're quite well-behaved," Ji Yueyao chuckled. "But do you have a name? You can't expect me to keep calling you 'you you you' all the time, can you?"
"My name is Sky," the voice of the alien skull said with a touch of nostalgia, "though I have never seen Sky."
"The sky suits you perfectly; it's like your eyes, so clear and blue." (To be continued.)
