His consciousness was gradually fading, but he felt a sense of relief and liberation. He no longer had to bear that heavy shackle, and leaving like this seemed... no big deal.
Why? Why did he have to be that person's son? He had no ambition to become a military commander, no desire to unify the country, and no grand aspirations. He simply wanted to be able to relax and quietly bask in the sun with the person he loved, just like when his mother was still by his side.
What did the lives and deaths of those ordinary people and his subordinates have to do with him? He thought this over and over again, but his body kept fighting for that man's ideals.
A strange sense of loss enveloped his heart, and he could hardly breathe. What had he done with his life? But never mind, none of that mattered anymore. He couldn't move at all, and even his heart seemed to have slowed down.
Actually... I'm still reluctant to part with it...
A sudden, sweet, metallic taste filled my throat, and my heart began to pound.
This is the familiar warmth, the familiar temperature.
Ji Yueyao.
Mu Yanxuan opened her eyes and saw Ji Yueyao tearing at her clothes and wrapping them around her bleeding wrists again and again.
"I feel completely drained." Ji Yueyao said with a miserable face, "What, you're saying I deserve it? Do you believe I'll kick you out of here?"
"If you kick me out, I won't be able to find my way back up," Sky chuckled smugly.
"Yeah, fine, I'll allow you to gloat for a bit." Ji Yueyao rolled her eyes, tied a perfect knot in her arm, and rubbed her sore thighs. "But we really need to get out of here as soon as possible."
Sitting on a rock nearby, Ji Yueyao let out a long breath. She didn't have the strength to stand up for the time being, so she decided to rest for a while. She was really tired.
Who was she talking to? Mu Yanxuan looked at Ji Yueyao with some confusion, then focused his gaze on the wound on her wrist, gently licked the corner of his mouth with his tongue, and narrowed his eyes slightly.
This is...her blood?
Has she gone mad...? Why would she...?
He felt a sudden tightness in his chest, and negative emotions such as pity, regret, and pain surged towards him all at once.
"When will Mu Yanxuan wake up? I've already given him my blood. If he doesn't wake up, how are we going to get up there..." Ji Yueyao muttered, resting her chin on her hand. Then she turned to look in Mu Yanxuan's direction and saw that he was looking at her with his eyes open.
"..." Ji Yueyao was dumbfounded and startled. When did this guy wake up?
"He seems to have woken up," Sky said calmly at this moment.
"I'm not blind, I saw it!" Ji Yueyao roared inwardly.
"Cough, you're awake." Ji Yueyao coughed lightly, suddenly realizing that her blood-soaked and ragged appearance was indeed somewhat inappropriate for public display.
Mu Yanxuan didn't speak, but shakily got up and walked towards her. The burning intensity in his eyes made Ji Yueyao turn her face away uncomfortably.
"Did you feed me your blood?" Mu Yanxuan asked softly.
"Hmm." Ji Yueyao shrugged slightly, not knowing why she couldn't look Mu Yanxuan in the eye. It was really inexplicable. She mentally bit herself.
"Don't get excited, don't get excited." A gloating voice came from the sky, making people really want to kick this guy away.
"Why?" Mu Yanxuan seemed to lose his composure and knelt down in front of Ji Yueyao, who was sitting, and then hugged her in his arms.
"What are you doing..." Ji Yueyao was stunned by the hug, and didn't even notice the pain from her wounds.
"I'm asking you why." Mu Yanxuan's hoarse voice brushed gently past Ji Yueyao's ear, causing a tremor in her heart.
"I want you to wake up," Ji Yueyao said softly.
“You can’t hurt yourself…” Mu Yanxuan buried his head in Ji Yueyao’s neck, greedily inhaling her scent. “I’m not worth you doing this, not worth it. Someone like me… I just want you to be alright.”
Ji Yueyao was stunned, staring blankly at Mu Yanxuan. Her face, which had been pale from blood loss, gradually flushed red. "It's because it's you that I did this."
"Tch." The sky rolled its eyes, indicating that being a third wheel was really not easy.
The sudden sound from the sky startled Ji Yueyao. She had almost forgotten that there was a spectator watching the show. She immediately raised her hand to push Mu Yanxuan away, but Mu Yanxuan was holding her tightly, and she couldn't move at all. Struggling a little aggravated her wound.
"Let me go, I'm in so much pain." Ji Yueyao's face was burning hot, and her whispered voice was barely audible. But this tiny sound was a huge deal to Mu Yanxuan. He immediately released Ji Yueyao and then carefully examined her body. Only then did Mu Yanxuan notice the deep wound on Ji Yueyao's leg and the hideous scar on her left cheek. He hadn't noticed it before because her face was turned to the side.
“Ji Yueyao…” Mu Yanxuan felt an unnamed fire ignite in his heart. Looking at the disheveled Ji Yueyao, he suddenly stood up and carried her on his back. “It’s all my fault… Ji Yueyao, we need to leave this awful place right now. Where is Bai Yi? Didn’t I tell him to protect you? Now you’re injured like this and he’s not here?! Damn it!”
"I got separated from the termites when I fell, and can you carry me on your back... I can do it myself..." Ji Yueyao was roughly carried on his back. She bit her lip and kicked her leg, but Mu Yanxuan ignored her completely. She struggled for a moment but didn't know what to say.
