The night remained peaceful. Ji Yueyao glanced at the clock on the bedside table by the moonlight; it was a little past three in the morning.
A chill ran through her body. Ji Yueyao rubbed her eyes, grabbed her coat from the bed, put it on, and went outside. The living room was still lit. Was anyone still in the living room at this hour?
"Kaki, what are you doing?" Ji Yueyao came downstairs and immediately saw Kaqi sitting in front of the sofa, hugging a cushion and staring blankly. She walked back and asked softly.
Kachi closed her eyes and shook her head, looking rather listless. "Captain, Xia Yaoxuan said he had to go back to the Black Zone first, and he asked me to tell you."
Has he left too? Ji Yueyao's eyes darkened slightly. She nodded and sat down next to Kaqi, concealing her other emotions and appearing not particularly reluctant to part. "I know... Kaqi, why do you look so listless?"
“Yueyao… Sky…” Kaqi was actually a little afraid of Sky, feeling creeped out by having to face a skull-shaped monster all day. But every time Sky’s eyes rolled and emitted a blue light, she was initially scared, but later found it fun… Now Sky had been crushed by Yu Tianfang without leaving a trace.
At the mention of the sky, Ji Yueyao's body stiffened. She gave a somewhat blank, bitter smile and looked down to take out the small bag containing the sky's eyeball from her pocket.
"His last wish for me... I will definitely fulfill it." Ji Yueyao held the small bag, and as she slightly opened it, she seemed to notice something and was about to take it out to take a look.
"Yueyao, I think death is really terrifying... Will I die suddenly like this one day?" For the first time, Kaqi showed her vulnerability in front of Ji Yueyao. The string that had been weighing on her nerves for so long softened. She looked at Ji Yueyao, but did not shed a tear. Perhaps now, even in her grief, she could instinctively hold back all her vulnerability, and tears were no longer a part of her life.
“Kaki…we will all die someday…it’s just a matter of what we do before we die, how fulfilling our lives are.” This question of Kaki’s had been troubling Ji Yueyao as well. She lowered her eyes slightly and said to Kaki with the words she had always told herself, “But even so, I don’t want to die…so I will do as much as I can while I’m alive.”
“Yueyao…” Kaqi nodded, hugging her knees, while Ji Yueyao patted Kaqi’s back reassuringly, “Don’t think too much.”
She stared blankly at the eyeball in her hand. When she first received the eyeball from the sky, she could vaguely sense some energy fluctuations. Although the eye had lost its azure blue, it still retained a faint crystalline blue hue. But now, it seemed that even that layer of blue was slowly fading away...
She raised her hand and touched the surface of the eyeball, and a layer of powder-like substance was scraped off. She hadn't even used any force... Ji Yueyao focused her mind and suddenly realized something. Sky's superpower was time, but now Sky's consciousness had dissipated, so his superpower must also be gone. The superpower that originally maintained this, including the eyeball, was naturally slowly disappearing.
If they all disappear... the consciousness of the sky might completely vanish.
Upon realizing this, Ji Yueyao's eyes sharpened, and she immediately stood up. In other words, when the two eyeballs in the sky completely disappeared... that would be the time when the sky's consciousness completely dissipated.
"I want to go home." The words from the sky still seemed to echo clearly in her ears. Ji Yueyao carefully put the two eyeballs back in and took a deep breath.
She had to get the eye of the sky back to his hometown before it completely disappeared.
"Termites, bamboo and wood." Ji Yueyao stood in the hall and called upstairs. Thinking that they probably couldn't hear her in the room, she was about to go upstairs when she heard two faint responses. Then, in less than a minute, the termites appeared in front of Ji Yueyao. The bamboo and wood were a little slower, but only about ten seconds slower.
"Captain... so late at night..." Takeki rubbed his eyes, looking completely bewildered. "What's wrong?"
“We have things to do.” Ji Yueyao glanced at Zhu Mu with a complicated look in her eyes. The distance between downstairs and upstairs should be quite far... not to mention the obstruction of the room door. She could understand that the termites could hear and react quickly, but was it a bit much to ask Zhu Mu?
"I'm going to the Forbidden Forest, are you coming?"
The Termites were taken aback, their sleepiness vanishing instantly. Why was their captain suddenly going to the Forbidden Forest?
"Of course we'll go if the captain says so... but can the captain tell me why?" White Ant asked worriedly. The adults had told him to take good care of Ji Yueyao, and he was very worried looking at Ji Yueyao's still pale face. "Besides, now that the sky is gone... what if you get a headache again after entering the Forbidden Forest, Captain?"
"It won't give me a headache." Ji Yueyao touched her forehead lightly, her tone faint but clearly tinged with melancholy. "I can feel that there's still a little bit of consciousness in my mind, suppressing those irritating sound waves for me."
"Could it be that Sky isn't dead yet?" Kachi asked in surprise.
“No, he is already dead. And the reason I’m going to the Forbidden Forest this time is because of this remaining consciousness.” Ji Yueyao’s eyes dimmed. She tried her best to hide her dejection. She felt that her mind was in turmoil, but her goal was still firm. She wanted to fulfill the sky’s last wish. This was her current goal. “His last remaining consciousness wanted to go home... and I want to send it back before its consciousness completely disappears.”
The termite hesitated for a moment. He had no feelings for the sky, and subconsciously he didn't want Ji Yueyao to take risks because of a skull. "Captain, can't we wait for the adults to come before we go together? Why are we in such a hurry?"
Ji Yueyao shook her head, took out a small bag containing the Sky Eye from her body, and said softly, "I speculate that this eye may be formed from the last bit of power in the sky. It is slowly petrifying now, and it may completely disappear in less than a month."
“But Captain, you also said that this skeleton… Sky’s home should be in the very center of the Forbidden Forest, but so far no one has been able to reach it.” Termite still disagreed.
“Termites.” Ji Yueyao sighed, her eyes filled with an undeniable resolve. “Back in the Forbidden Forest, if it weren’t for Sky, let alone saving Mu Yan, I wouldn’t even have been able to save my own life. Sky has been helping me ever since… It’s my partner, and that’s all I can do.”
The sky left because of her; it was her cowardice that led to all this. Ji Yueyao lowered her eyelids, burying all her hatred and regret deep in her heart. (To be continued.)
