"boom--"
It was that voice again. Ji Yueyao narrowed her eyes, suddenly reached out and grabbed the arms of Kaqi and Lin Xuan who were standing at the very edge, pulling them to the side. The next moment, a deep mark was left on the city wall behind them, and dust filled the surrounding area.
"What happened?!" Kachi turned around and was stunned when she saw the mark on the city wall. If Ji Yueyao hadn't pulled her away, that mark would have landed on her!
Lin Xuan could vaguely feel something brush past his ear, but he couldn't see anything when he looked straight ahead.
"That's the wind." Ji Yueyao narrowed her eyes. Now that she had unleashed her ability to distort space, she was extremely sensitive to everything around her, so she caught the murderous attack almost instantly.
The only beings capable of using wind to attack humans are... powerful anomalies.
"Kachi, you all step back." Ji Yueyao looked up at the huge figure in the sky, then clenched her fist. That was... a bird-type exotic bird.
These are rare birds of prey, mostly the size of an elephant. Their plumage is entirely black, and they have ten to twenty venomous tubercles on their heads. They have no eyes and rely entirely on their hearing to orient themselves. They mostly prefer to act alone.
The finches were incredibly fast, and in the blink of an eye they had reached the city gate of the Nanxiao base.
"Fire!" The same voice rang out again from the city gate, followed by a barrage of gunfire.
Under the intense pressure of the firepower, the peacock-type bird angrily flapped its wings, sending a sharp gust of wind straight forward, followed by a piercing cry.
"Screech." Ji Yueyao covered her ears in pain, then gritted her teeth to stay conscious. Mu Yanxuan's expression was also clearly not good. This kind of sharp scream was really too lethal to them.
Kaqi and Zhenyang were a little better off, since they were the only two who weren't superhumans, and their senses were slightly less acute than Ji Yueyao's and the others. But they were still not feeling well; their brains were buzzing so loudly that they could almost faint.
The gunfire from the city wall suddenly subsided, becoming sporadic and almost nonexistent.
The swan-like bird circled twice in the air before fixing its gaze on Ji Yueyao and her companions. In its mind, Ji Yueyao and her group were lone humans and posed no threat.
Ji Yueyao felt the hairs on her body stand on end. When she looked up, she saw a bird of prey swooping straight down at her.
Almost instantly, the huge, strange bird in front of her seemed to touch the tip of Ji Yueyao's nose with its sharp teeth, and she could feel the icy coldness on the tip of her nose.
Mu Yanxuan narrowed his eyes, feeling a sense of panic rush to his brain. In that instant, he raised his hand and locked onto the air around the bird-like creature.
Then... a scene that left everyone dumbfounded appeared. The bird-like creature in front of Ji Yueyao suddenly twisted its entire body, then instantly tore into pieces, with flesh and blood flying everywhere. The poor thing didn't even make a sound before its flesh and blood disappeared from the spot.
Apart from the marks left by the wind on the city walls, there was not a single bird of prey to be seen in the entire field of vision.
What's going on? Where did the rare bird go? Everyone was practically stunned.
Fire Fox and the others knew about their general's special abilities, and that no matter what, the situation they just witnessed would never happen, and they themselves certainly didn't possess such terrifying abilities.
Mu Yanxuan also withdrew his hand. He hadn't done anything at all. Could it be... that he had focused his gaze on Ji Yueyao? Was this her special ability?
Ji Yueyao didn't have time to care about other people's reactions. She breathed heavily, her face pale, and then took a step back to lean against the city wall. She had almost instinctively used her ability to distort space. Fortunately, once the ability was activated, it was as easy to use as breathing. Otherwise, she might have really had her head bitten off.
However... this physical exertion is too exaggerated. If it weren't for the fact that she had trained a lot before, Ji Yueyao felt that she would have collapsed to the ground by now.
Ji Yueyao wondered how Mu Yanxuan could use such powerful abilities without changing his expression. She couldn't help but look at Mu Yanxuan, only to find that he was staring at her intently, his gaze... was so intense it was indescribable.
"Mu...uh, Xuanyan, is there something you need?"
Mu Yanxuan shook his head, then walked over and supported her, saying softly, "The first few times you use your powers, you'll usually be exhausted, but you'll get used to it." Mu Yanxuan didn't ask about Ji Yueyao's powers; he simply supported her with trust.
"I see... Ouch." Ji Yueyao nodded, then as she straightened up, a sharp pain in her arm almost made her choke.
"What's wrong?" Mu Yanxuan froze for a moment, then suddenly pulled Ji Yueyao's arm.
"It hurts!" Ji Yueyao gritted her teeth.
Mu Yanxuan grabbed Ji Yueyao's arm rather roughly, his face horribly gloomy. Her entire arm was rotting, black, and shrunken flesh, which was disgusting.
For some reason, looking at Mu Yanxuan's gloomy face, Ji Yueyao felt extremely guilty and quickly comforted the man in front of her, saying, "This should be the poison wound on the forehead of the bird-like creature earlier. This poison won't spread. We'll figure out a way to treat it when we get to the Nanxiao base."
"If this isn't serious, then what is? Termites." Mu Yanxuan glanced at Ji Yueyao, his voice icy cold, and almost everyone around him shivered instantly.
“I’ve had injuries even more serious than this…” Ji Yueyao muttered, feeling a little aggrieved. The scar on her neck was from a dagger stabbing her during training. Ji Tiehan had said that if it had been any deeper, she would have lost her life.
However, this was the first time Mu Yanxuan had spoken to her in such a cold tone during their time together these past few days. Although she knew he was worried about her, Ji Yueyao still felt something was off.
"My lord." Bai Yi stepped forward. He was quite handsome, and his thin appearance gave him a somewhat aloof air, like a doctor.
"Not a single scar is allowed." Mu Yanxuan didn't look at the termites; he was only holding onto the uninjured parts of Ji Yueyao's arm. Because his head was lowered, his expression couldn't be seen.
"Yes." The white ant nodded, then raised its hand and placed it on Ji Yueyao's arm. Ji Yueyao was extremely quiet and obediently watched as her arm was visibly recovering under the white ant's care.
"Is this a healing ability? That's amazing." Ji Yueyao couldn't help but exclaim in admiration, but Mu Yanxuan seemed to still be in a bad mood, hanging his head and remaining silent.
Soon the scars on Ji Yueyao's arm healed, leaving her perfectly fair arm without a single blemish.
At that moment, the gates of the Nanxiao base slowly and heavily opened.
"Welcome, powerful guys."
