Chapter Twenty: Don't Go Too Far

Wei Kang and Ji Yueyao stood at the door and looked at each other. Then they both sat down on the sofa next to them.

Looking at Wei Kang, who was holding her hand and had his head down, Ji Yueyao couldn't see his expression for a moment. The two of them just sat there, and the room was very quiet for a while.

Ji Yueyao yawned, feeling sleepy. Wei Kang then looked up at Ji Yueyao and asked, "Didn't you ask me who Mu Liu was earlier?"

Ji Yueyao nodded, slightly more awake, but she wasn't very interested at the moment. She had originally wanted to know Mu Liu just because she was going to find Kaqi, but now where was she supposed to find him? "Hmm, who is Mu Liu?"

“Mu Liu is the captain of the first team of the supply department, and he is also a water-type ability user.” Wei Kang yawned wearily and leaned against the armrest. “It is said that he used to be in the search department, but later transferred to the supply department through connections.”

"Another one with connections." Ji Yueyao curled her lip and turned to look at Wei Kang. "Then who is his backer?"

Wei Kang shook his head, leaning against the sofa armrest, half asleep. "The minister of the supply department seems to be his uncle."

"oh."

In the quiet night, the two chatted idly, not even knowing when they fell asleep.

Ji Yueyao slept until dawn, but the noisy hawking outside made her open her eyes with some annoyance. She got up to get out of bed, but found that the sensation under her hand was a little strange.

Huh? Why is it warm? It doesn't feel like a bed frame. I looked down...

Wei Kang?

Why is he beneath me?

Seeing him shift uncomfortably, Ji Yueyao recoiled as if electrocuted, but accidentally kicked the wrong spot. In a moment of surprise, Wei Kang woke up with a frown.

"It hurts so much, woman, what are you doing!"

When Wei Kang woke up, he saw Ji Yueyao on top of him. His face flushed red, and he immediately sat up and threw her off.

Just as Ji Yueyao was about to apologize, Wei Kang threw her to the ground before she could even utter a word. Annoyed, she stood up and grabbed Wei Kang's ear, "Wei Kang, what's wrong with you so early in the morning? You almost killed me!"

"What's wrong with you, you shameless woman!" Wei Kang winced in pain, but couldn't fight back, so he could only glare at Ji Yueyao.

"You're shameless!" Ji Yueyao kicked Wei Kang in the shin. "How dare you pounce on a young girl like me in the middle of the night!"

"......" Who exactly pounced on whom?!

Wei Kang sighed helplessly, sat up, smoothed his hair, and looked up at the side. "Didn't you have anything to do this morning?"

"I have something to do, I still have work to do." Ji Yueyao snorted, looked around but couldn't find a place to wash her face. "Where is your place to wash your face?"

Wei Kang didn't answer her. He stood up, glanced at her, and walked out. A few minutes later, he came back in with a basin of water. "Go wash up."

Wei Kang personally fetching water made her feel a little embarrassed, but seeing his unwillingness to say more, she couldn't bring herself to express her gratitude.

After washing her face, Ji Yueyao took out half a pack of biscuits from her pocket for breakfast. Wei Kang frowned as he watched Ji Yueyao eat half a pack of biscuits and look full. "Isn't your appetite a little too small?"

"Really?" Ji Yueyao was taken aback, but she was already quite full.

“This isn’t normal for you,” Wei Kang shook his head. “Although I don’t know if it’s because you have a weak constitution, I advise you to eat as much food as possible in this world, otherwise your body won’t get enough nutrition.”

Ji Yueyao paused for a moment, looked at the biscuits in her hand, and nodded. "I understand."

She knew it was abnormal for her to eat so little, but she just didn't have much of an appetite.

"But I feel like there's not much of a food shortage at the Xiyu base." Here, you can exchange points for food, which is nothing like the post-apocalyptic novels where people are starving and freezing. As long as you have the ability, you can get enough food.

“The Xiyu base has dedicated planting and breeding farms, as well as food processing areas, all managed by the living quarters department. But it should be said that not only the Xiyu base, but every large one has them. Besides... who said there's no shortage of food here? If there wasn't a shortage of food, would you be eating biscuits every day here?” Wei Kang glanced at Ji Yueyao, looking down on her ignorance. “You haven't seen those people who can't afford to eat. If you had, you wouldn't have this kind of thought.”

Ji Yueyao remained silent, accepting Wei Kang's disdainful gaze with equanimity. Let him look all he wanted; she was used to it anyway.

After they finished breakfast, they went about their own business.

After finishing her work, Ji Yueyao returned to her dormitory, only to find that Kaqi was not home. She stood at the door for a while, worried, and then hesitated before leaving the dormitory, realizing that she would not have time to go to the training area.

Perhaps because she hadn't slept well the night before, she couldn't muster any energy even standing in the training area. After being knocked away by Ji Tiehan again, she lay on the ground, staring blankly at the sky.

"Look at that deadpan look in your eyes." Yao Lin walked over and waved his hand in front of her. "What's wrong, little girl? What's bothering you? Tell your brother."

"..." Ji Yueyao glanced at him speechlessly, stood up and stretched, then attacked Ji Tiehan again, only to be knocked away once more.

"I have something to say today." Ji Tiehan looked at the crowd in front of him, who couldn't even sit up, with a half-smile. "There will be an assessment in our training area in two months. But you're lucky. It just so happens to coincide with the competition among the five major forces in our country. If you pass, it means that you will represent our Xiyu Base in the competition against the other three bases, including the new recruits trained by the military."

"Why are the four bases and the military still competing?" Ji Yueyao asked, puzzled. Aren't these forces supposed to be completely unrelated?

“That was the old rule.” Ji Tiehan rested his chin on his hand. “Using new recruits to measure the current strength of the base, but Ji Yueyao, you shouldn’t be questioning this right now.”

When Ji Yueyao heard Ji Tiehan call her name, her heart sank. Sure enough, Ji Tiehan then said, "I'm very worried about whether you can pass the assessment with your current level of skill. You know, in the eyes of the other teams in our training area, you guys are practically novices."

Everyone was stunned by the blatant blow.

"How do I pass the assessment?" Ji Yueyao asked again.

Ji Tiehan gave her a cold look. "Compete against the other teams in the training area. If you win, you pass; if you lose, you continue training."
