Ruan Ruan squinted at the few boys walking around her, smacked her lips, and then kicked her legs.
"What's wrong?" Ji Yueyao looked down at Ruan Ruan. The leading boy turned around and glanced at Ji Yueyao. Seeing that she was talking to the child in her arms, he turned his head away again.
"Ruanruan wants to walk by herself." Ruanruan stretched out her thin little arms and legs, pouting and acting coquettishly.
"Ruanruan, can you walk by yourself?" Ji Yueyao glanced at Ruanruan's thin arms and legs and was really worried. If she were put on the ground like this, she would probably be blown away by the wind.
She nuzzled against Ji Yueyao softly, much like a kitten seeking affection, and said, "I can."
Ji Yueyao frowned. Although Ruan Ruan was definitely not human, she always unconsciously treated her as a four or five-year-old child... But even a four or five-year-old child should be able to walk by now, right?
He knelt down and placed Ruan Ruan on the ground, while draping a cloak over her to conceal her unusual hair and eye color.
"A child this big can't even walk yet..." The leading boy muttered disapprovingly, glancing sideways at Ji Yueyao. In the apocalypse, to see a mother who dotes on her child so much... Wait, the boy turned back and frowned at Ji Yueyao. This woman didn't look very old to begin with, how could she give birth to such a big child?
"Who is this child to you?" The leading boy frowned, stopped, turned around, and stared coldly at Ji Yueyao as he asked.
"My...little sister." Ji Yueyao didn't understand why the boy would ask such a question. She paused for a moment before saying, "Is there a problem?"
"No." The boy shook his head in frustration and continued walking forward. Was he being too suspicious? The woman behind him had never said that the child in her arms was her child. "From now on, you are not allowed to speak. You'd better get to Grandpa's place obediently!"
"..." Ji Yueyao glanced innocently at the boy's back. What had she done?
"Do you have any convenient means of transportation to get to the Donglin base?" Ji Yueyao asked after a few minutes of silence, as she was genuinely unsure whether there would be vehicles or similar items in Kagan City, a place that was no longer officially under anyone's jurisdiction.
"Grandpa has a car that goes to the Donglin base." The boy in the lead said this without even turning his head.
Grandpa? Ji Yueyao frowned. This wasn't the first time they had mentioned this title. Looking at their respectful expressions, Ji Yueyao was quite curious about what kind of person this grandfather was.
With a car, everything became easier. Ji Yueyao didn't ask any more questions. Holding Ruan Ruan's hand, she lowered her eyes thoughtfully and continued walking forward with the boy.
After walking around this desolate place for more than ten minutes, Ji Yueyao suddenly felt her arm being pulled a little tighter. Then everything went black before her eyes, and it was obvious that something had been put over her head.
"We've walked such a long way and you're only putting on the hood now?" Ji Yueyao frowned, then could only try to lift her feet higher to prevent herself from falling while she couldn't see.
Ruan Ruan seemed a little uncomfortable with being hooded, and the force with which she gripped Ji Yueyao's wrist noticeably increased. For a moment, Ji Yueyao felt as if Ruan Ruan was about to break her fingers.
I didn't expect Ruan Ruan to have such strength... Ji Yueyao endured the pain and whispered, "Ruan Ruan, what's wrong?"
"...Nothing much." Her soft voice was indifferent, seemingly devoid of emotion, but after Ji Yueyao spoke, the force in her hand noticeably lessened.
