Chapter 169: We Can't Go Back

Although the movements were familiar, in Ji Yueyao's eyes, Wei Kang's series of actions were so slow that she could easily dodge them. Ji Yueyao lowered her eyelids and took half a step back to avoid Wei Kang's first attack.

As soon as Wei Kang saw Ji Yueyao dodge, he quickly searched his mind for the moves he had learned before, and then kicked her hard.

Ji Yueyao did not recall the previous actions, not because she did not need to recall them, but because she had already deeply imprinted all the actions into her body during this period of time.

The most profound lesson she learned in this world is that you must apply what you learn.

Instinctively leaping up, Ji Yueyao dodged Wei Kang's second attack in a gliding motion without even touching him, and flashed to his side.

“You’ve regressed too much, Wei Kang. I can no longer fight you one-on-one,” Ji Yueyao said softly. “This is the second attack. I will launch the first attack next.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Ji Yueyao launched an attack from the side. She first aimed at Wei Kang's legs, quickly took half a step forward, and swept her knee across. Wei Kang tried to dodge, but his body couldn't keep up with the speed in his mind.

Keep in mind that Wei Kang is now a superhuman, so how fast must his attacks be to be that even superhumans can't dodge them?

With a sudden ache in his legs, Wei Kang collapsed to his knees. The next second, a heavy weight pressed down on him, and he couldn't even support himself as he lay sprawled on the ground.

Ji Yueyao knelt on the ground, released her grip on Wei Kang's arm, and stood up. "You lost."

She won too easily, so easily that it wasn't even a duel; it was like she was just playing around with Wei Kang.

"How could you become so strong while I was unconscious for months?!" Wei Kang lay on the ground, still unable to comprehend what was happening. How could this be? Even at his full strength, he couldn't even touch the hem of Ji Yueyao's clothes?!

“I have become stronger, but you have become weaker.” Ji Yueyao looked at Wei Kang lying on the ground and reached out her hand. “Think back to when we couldn’t even touch the hem of Ji Tiehan’s clothes. Do you remember how you felt back then? That eagerness to challenge yourself, that determination to break through your limits.”

“Wei Kang, your training back then wasn’t as intense as it is now, working day and night. But I guarantee that your training back then was at least ten times more effective than it is now.”

"Get up, Wei Kang, you should be a stronger being than me."

Ji Yueyao's voice was soft and gentle, with a strange warmth. She spoke softly, bending down to bring her hand closer to Wei Kang, her eyes filled with anticipation.

Wei Kang was her first and closest partner, wasn't he? She believed he would understand.

Wei Kang glanced at Ji Yueyao's hand, then slowly lowered his head and looked away. Time seemed to stand still for a moment, and Ji Yueyao remained silent.

The light in his eyes gradually faded, leaving only emptiness in his dark pupils.

So... we can't go back after all?

"Ji Yueyao, let's go." Mu Yanxuan, who had stood by without lifting a finger the whole time, took Ji Yueyao's hand with heartache, then bent down and picked her up. "Are you tired? Let's go home."

Home? Ji Yueyao looked up and suddenly felt that the word was so unfamiliar. She looked into Mu Yanxuan's eyes, and her eyes gradually regained their luster. She raised her hand and wrapped her arms around his neck and buried her head in his neck.

"Okay, let's go home."

Wei Kang kept his head down the whole time, and no one could see his expression. Only the moonlight could clearly illuminate the tear stains on the soil in front of him.

It's all too late to go back.

Ji Yueyao remained quiet throughout the journey. Mu Yanxuan, somewhat worried, nuzzled her cheek and quickened his pace toward his villa.

His neck was already damp, and a dangerous storm was brewing in Mu Yanxuan's eyes. He tried his best to suppress his anger and prevent it from erupting.

"Mu Yanxuan, when I first arrived in this world... what I really wanted to do was die." Ji Yueyao suddenly spoke, her gentle voice sounding so fragile that Mu Yanxuan couldn't help but tighten his embrace around her.

“Ji Yueyao…”

“But I met Sister Qiao, Lin Xuan, and Kaqi, and then I went to the training area.” Ji Yueyao lowered her eyelids. “Every day was hard but fulfilling. Lin Xuan and Kaqi were always encouraging me, and... my nemesis Wei Kang. Although he said some very hurtful things, he was my closest partner.”

"Mu Yanxuan, you can't imagine what he means to me." Ji Yueyao buried her head in Mu Yanxuan's arms again, said this in a muffled voice, and then fell silent again.

Mu Yanxuan listened to Ji Yueyao's narration without saying a word. However, when Ji Yueyao couldn't see him, he clenched his teeth tightly, regretting that he wasn't by her side at the time, while his killing intent towards Wei Kang overflowed. That Wei Kang... was really even more of a nuisance than Xia Yaoxuan.

“Ji Yueyao, you’ve all gone back. You should be the Ji Yueyao who’s with me now.” Mu Yanxuan narrowed his eyes slightly, and with a few leaps, he scaled the wall and slipped into his villa.

He originally planned to take the usual route and walk back quickly, but with his excellent eyesight, he spotted Xia Yaoxuan standing in front of him at a glance... Tsk, he's really persistent.

"Pfft, what are you saying..." Ji Yueyao chuckled. She was so lost in thought that she had completely lost her guard and naturally did not notice Xia Yaoxuan waiting for her at the villa entrance.

Mu Yanxuan wasn't very good at comforting people; in fact, this was the first time he'd ever done so in his life. So, looking at Ji Yueyao's faint smile, he felt a tiny bit of a sense of accomplishment.

Upon entering Ji Yueyao's room, Mu Yanxuan carefully laid her down. "Look, your eyes are all red. Go to sleep, you'll feel better after a good night's rest."

"I slept all day," Ji Yueyao grumbled, her tone clearly pleading. "I don't want to sleep now."

"Then what do you want to do?" Mu Yanxuan asked patiently as he sat down in front of Ji Yueyao's bed, feeling helpless.

Ji Yueyao leaned against the pillows and hummed, "I've heard that alcohol can drown sorrows, I want to drink some."

She had never even touched a wine glass in her entire life. Now that it was the apocalypse, she was no longer going to be a good girl. She was going to try everything she had never tried before!

Mu Yanxuan shook his head helplessly. He did have alcohol, but it was strong liquor for soldiers. How could Ji Yueyao possibly handle it?

"I want to drink!" Seeing that Mu Yanxuan disagreed, Ji Yueyao suddenly burst into tears, "Even you are bullying me..."

Seeing her sorrowful appearance, Mu Yanxuan understood that this was just her releasing the sadness she had been suppressing, and she even had to find such a reason... He closed his eyes with a bitter smile and pulled Ji Yueyao into his arms. Even knowing the reason, he still couldn't bear to see her tears.

She rarely lets her emotions run wild like this... let her have a good cry. (To be continued.)
