"What does that have to do with you being my woman?" Mu Yanxuan rested his chin on his hand, his eyes crinkling into a narrow smile as he looked at Ji Yueyao's bewildered expression with great pleasure.
"..." Ji Yueyao was speechless again. She covered her face and sighed, stealing a glance at Mu Yanxuan only to find that he was staring at her the whole time. Ji Yueyao sighed again, looking at the backpack she had thrown aside, and suddenly said, "By the way, Mu Yanxuan, do you know... the End of the Year?"
Mu Yanxuan's expression changed instantly. He looked at Ji Yueyao with a serious expression and frowned, "How do you know about the end of the year?"
He knew it after all! Ji Yueyao blinked, then took out the Sky app from her backpack and handed it to Mu Yanxuan. "He told me."
The sky's eyes emitted a ghostly blue light from their sockets, while Mu Yanxuan lowered his head and silently gazed at the sky. The two of them just stared at each other in the car.
"Is he alive?" Mu Yanxuan was also somewhat surprised, but only for a moment.
"Yes, I can talk to it." Ji Yueyao nodded in response and then began to recount all the things she had said to the sky when she encountered it.
Mu Yanxuan listened intently the whole time, without uttering a single word.
"So you could talk to this skull from the Forbidden Forest? I always thought... you liked these things." After listening to Ji Yueyao's explanation, Mu Yanxuan's opening line was so aggrieved, which completely stunned Ji Yueyao. Was that... the point?!
“Mu Yanxuan, you’ve got to the point…” Ji Yueyao was speechless. “I mean, it was this that told me the end year, the final seven years of the end year.”
Mu Yanxuan nodded, but felt a little regretful. He had prepared a room full of skulls, intending to give them to Ji Yueyao as a gift. This was the first time he had ever given someone a gift... Mu Yanxuan turned his head away in disappointment and said softly, "Oh."
Ji Yueyao was about to ask a question, but her keen senses immediately noticed Mu Yanxuan's unusual behavior. She waved her hand in front of Mu Yanxuan's face, and asked curiously, "What's wrong with you?"
Mu Yanxuan did not answer. He looked at the small hand waving in front of him, suddenly reached out and grabbed it, then held it in his own hand and refused to let go.
The sudden sensation set Ji Yueyao a burning sensation all over her body. She looked at Mu Yanxuan's face, gritted her teeth, and tried to struggle free, but she couldn't even pull herself out an inch.
"Let me go!"
Mu Yanxuan selectively ignored those words. He raised his hand and touched Ji Yueyao's hair before starting to talk about the End Year with a smile. "The End Year? That was a long time ago. It's also one of the top secrets in our countries right now. Because very few people were alive at the time, only a handful of people besides the heads of state of our countries know about the End Year. Are you very interested in this?"
"It's still classified?" Ji Yueyao stopped struggling and let Mu Yan hold her hand. "It's not like I'll lose anything," Ji Yueyao thought to herself.
"It's okay if it's classified information and I can't say. I'm just a little curious."
The warm touch traveled through Mu Yanxuan's body, unconsciously softening his entire being. Seeing Ji Yueyao's dazed expression, he shook his head and said, "It's alright if you know."
"The final year is indeed the last seven years, but the remaining ten years and the last ten years of the twenty years that we kept secret have different names." Mu Yanxuan happily squeezed Ji Yueyao's small hand, and the joy in his heart could be seen from the corners of his mouth. "The first ten years are called the End of Darkness, and the last ten years are called the Beginning of Hope."
Ji Yueyao lowered his eyes and nodded. The emergence of five major powers in the world during the last ten years can indeed be seen as the dividing line of the entire final year.
“Between the years leading up to the end of the darkness, 70 percent of humans mutated into aliens. Many more died while fighting against the aliens, with the seven years of the final year seeing the most deaths.” Mu Yanxuan began to tell Ji Yueyao everything he knew.
"Is it because three absolute powers have emerged?" Ji Yueyao asked softly.
Mu Yan paused for a moment, then glanced at the sky in Ji Yueyao's hand. "So you already know all this. That's right, it was because of the emergence of the three powers. The owners of these three powers at the time were two humans and one alien. Because there was no stronger power to suppress them, both humans and aliens suffered massive massacres in the seven years of the apocalypse."
Different species slaughter humans, and humans slaughter different species.
“I remember a coastline in Country A, where blood is still everywhere. Even after so many years of wind and sun, the bloodstains remain on that shore, impossible to wash away. And this is only a small part of Country A’s power. You can imagine how many people have died in so many places across the country.” Mu Yanxuan’s voice was low, hoarse, and tinged with suppressed emotion. “But that was a long time ago. Such a thing would never happen now.”
"How can you be so sure that no one else will possess that pure power?" Ji Yueyao asked, looking up in confusion.
Mu Yanxuan gave Ji Yueyao a deep look, then reached out and pulled her into his arms. "Ji Yueyao, do you really want to know?"
Ji Yueyao was suddenly caught in Mu Yanxuan's cold embrace. She was stunned for a moment, but did not struggle. The loneliness that Mu Yanxuan exuded was extreme... even a dark aura surrounded her, causing a strange feeling to well up in her heart.
"I want to know."
Mu Yanxuan slightly curled his lips, his obsessive gaze falling and locking onto Ji Yueyao's face, "Even if you can never leave me in this lifetime, do you still want to know?"
Ji Yueyao was slightly taken aback, instinctively about to shake her head. She wasn't about to get herself into trouble over a single question. But when she looked directly into Mu Yanxuan's incredibly deep eyes, those alluring and mysterious vortexes like black holes, she couldn't look away. A sense of danger stirred within her. She repeatedly told herself she couldn't answer, but ultimately, she couldn't resist the fatal attraction of that vortex.
Everything Mu Yanxuan had done for her flashed through her mind. Actually... she knew it. She had always liked the warmth emanating from Mu Yanxuan and liked being by his side, but she was too weak, so weak that she would feel ashamed just standing next to him.
Saying that she would only be qualified to stand by his side after she became stronger was just an excuse she made for her own inferiority complex.
Ji Yueyao, do you still want to stay far away from Mu Yanxuan for this reason?
Ji Yueyao asked herself this question over and over in her heart, her gaze shifting from unfocused to resolute. She believed she could thrive in this world; she believed she could do it. She was Ji Yueyao, but no longer the timid and hesitant Ji Yueyao.
"Hey, tell me." (To be continued.)
