Chapter 123: I’m Shy

Ji Xinhe coldly curled her lips: "A guest is a guest, want to come in for a cup of tea?"

Lady Ding’s face turned pale with fright, and she quickly said: "Your house is broken and dangerous, what would we do there? Let’s not go!"

Ji Xinhe laughed: "It might be broken, but my mother’s Sacrificial Day is approaching, and she seems to be visiting me frequently these days. So I thought I might as well invite him in for a cup of tea and let my mother take a look since he will become part of the family when we get married."

As she spoke, Ji Xinhe looked at Ding Hui with a sinister look, making him shudder. He remembered how his mother, Jin Shi, had been insisting that Ji Xinhe’s house was haunted ever since she returned from there. He was already a bit worried, and now he felt that things were even more suspicious.

Ding Hui quickly said: "Let’s forget about going to your house! I bet everyone there is busy working. It would be troublesome if I go. Let’s just go to the main room and sit for a while?"

Lady Ding also added: "Yes, yes, let’s just go to my place and sit for a while. We’re all family, why talk about two separate households?"

Ji Xinhe laughed coldly: "Family? So now that she’s made a fortune, we’re suddenly part of the same family."

Ji Xinhe glanced at Ding Hui’s expectant gaze and raised the corner of her lips in mockery: "Alright then, let’s just go and sit over there."

Lady Ding was overjoyed, and she hurriedly said to Ding Hui, "You go and sit with Xin He in the main room. It’s a good opportunity to bond."

Ding Hui was also very excited, initially thinking Ji Xinhe still resented him for causing trouble for her brother last time and wouldn’t be happy with him. But unexpectedly, she was much more agreeable today, without any rejection, and even happily agreeing to connect and bond with him.

It seemed that Ji Xinhe might actually be interested in him!

Indeed, his charm seemed to be working just fine.

Ding Hui thought happily to himself, his smile broadening, and he eagerly tried to hold Ji Xinhe’s hand to enter the house together.

Ji Xinhe dodged his advance, walking forward with indifference, clearly not wanting to interact with him.

Ding Hui chuckled: "You’re still a little shy, huh?"

Then, he quickly followed her.

Lady Ding, however, looked worried. Ding Hui was a bit foolish and naturally couldn’t see anything, but she interacted with Ji Xinhe too many times to ignore her cunning nature. The fact that Ji Xinhe so readily agreed to this mysterious marriage was beyond strange.

If she really was interested in Ding Hui, why would she be so cold to him? Why didn’t she have any intention of drawing a clear line between herself and that man named Mu Chu?

Ji Xinhe clearly didn’t plan on getting married!

If it were indeed the case, wouldn’t all her efforts go to waste?

Lady Ding could not tolerate such an outcome, having come so far, if Ji Xinhe didn’t get married to the Ding Family, she feared that she wouldn’t be able to get any benefit out of her no matter what.

Ji Xinhe must be married off!

Lady Ding clenched her teeth and decided to add fuel to the fire.

Lady Ding led them both into the living room. Ji Xiulan and Ji Xiaobao were in their room, and Ji Dashan had already gone to town to work and earn money. The living room was naturally empty.

Ding Hui looked very pleased, the two alone, an ideal situation to cultivate feelings.

"You two chat first, I’ll bring you some hot water. It’s so cold outside, you should drink something warm." For the first time, Lady Ding spoke so kindly to Ji Xinhe.

Ji Xinhe pretended not to notice anything unusual and said: "Alright."

As soon as Lady Ding left, Ding Hui immediately approached and said with a smile: "Xinhe, when we last met during the Chinese New Year a few years ago, I didn’t realize how beautiful you were. They say women change eighteen times, and in just a few years, you’ve become more and more beautiful."

Ji Xinhe laughed lightly, with a hint of coldness: "Really?"

Ding Hui moved closer to her and said: "Xin He, don’t worry. Since we have the fate to be husband and wife, I will naturally treat you well. Once we get married, it will be the result of a hundred years of fate!"

While saying that, he tried to hug her.

Ji Xinhe grabbed his wrist and twisted it with a hand.

Ding Hui screamed in pain: "Xinhe, what are you doing?"

Ji Xinhe laughed coldly: "I’m shy."

Ding Hui’s face turned pale. Seeing her sinister smile, he felt a chill down his spine. Shy?! With her devilish grin, it was clear that she wanted to hurt him!

Ji Xinhe casually flung him away and said coldly: "The fate between a husband and wife is hard to say. Until the day we get married, it’s best not to say such things too soon."

Thrown away, Ding Hui stumbled, nearly falling, with a flash of coldness on his face. This woman was not easy to deal with!

Outside the door, Lady Ding was secretly watching. Judging by the situation, things were not going well!

Ji Xinhe was clearly not interested in Ding Hui at all and seemed to have no intention of getting married, probably having a backup plan in place.

Lady Ding clenched her teeth, pushed the door straight in, and said with a smile, "Here, have a drink. You two should talk and build your relationship, have some water to quench your thirst and warm yourself up."

As she spoke, she secretly signaled Ding Hui with her eyes.

Ding Hui’s eyes brightened as if understanding something, and his grim face suddenly cleared up. He diligently handed Ji Xinhe water: "Xinhe, drink quickly, it’s so cold, have something warm."

Ji Xinhe lifted her lips, "Thanks." 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂

Lady Ding laughed, "Why thank me? We’re all family, there’s no need to say thank you. Just drink it."

Ding Hui also looked at her expectantly, wanting her to drink it quickly.

Seeing Lady Ding’s expectant look, Ji Xinhe deliberately slowed down, leisurely putting the bowl in her hand on the table before raising her eyes to Lady Ding. She asked incredulously, "Mother, do you want to drink it too?"

Lady Ding realized that her gaze was too obvious and quickly waved her hand: "Of course not! I just drank some earlier. This was brought for you. How could I want to drink it? It’s just a bowl of hot water, nothing unusual."

"You’ve been standing here the whole time, I thought you wanted to drink it." Ji Xinhe chuckled.

Lady Ding quickly nodded and agreed: "It’s really not good for me to stand here, actually, I just remembered something I have to do. You guys chat, go ahead."

While speaking, she fiercely winked at Ding Hui and then slipped away like a wisp of smoke.
