Chapter 128: Had a Fight?

Ji Xinhe gratefully said to Li Zheng, "Thank you, Li Zheng, for standing up for me."

Li Zheng responded solemnly, "People of our village are not easy to bully. If it were a legitimate marriage contract, I certainly have no right to interfere. But Ding Hui has gone too far, being so outrageous on our turf, doing such nasty things... If we tolerate it today, outsiders will look down upon our village."

While saying this, he shot a cold glance towards Lady Ding, clearly holding back his anger, and huffed heavily. He turned towards Ji Dashan, "Lady Ding is after all your wife, and married into our village. I can’t treat her the same as outsider Ding Hui and send her away. You decide what to do with her."

Having said this, he strode away angrily.

Once Li Zheng left, villagers also dispersed in groups. Most were still discussing about the shocking event they had just witnessed.

Listening to the bustling talk, Ji Dashan felt stifled. He furiously threw away the fire poker he was holding and rushed out, obviously not wanting to see Lady Ding anymore.

Lady Ding stood still in place in a daze. After a while, she recovered and lashed out at Ji Xinhe, "Ji Xinhe, you mean person, this is all your fault!"

Ji Xinhe raised an eyebrow, "All my fault? If you dare to mess with me again, I will tell the villagers about how you deliberately drugged Ding Hui’s water, and lured him to take advantage of you. Once they know that, Li Zheng might just drive you out, along with Ding Hui."

"You!" Lady Ding couldn’t believe this cunning girl had come up with such a calculated story to put her in a trap!

Yet, she couldn’t refute at all and had to grit her teeth and admit it.

Ji Xinhe scoffed, "So you better not anger me, or else one day, if I let out the ’truth’, that you drugged Ding Hui deliberately, you’d suffer worse than today."

Having said that, she shot a cold glance at Lady Ding and walked back into the house.

Lady Ding almost crushed her teeth in her anger, making her shiver, but she didn’t dare to say another word. She knew how ruthless this girl could be. She wasn’t afraid to carry out her threats. Lady Ding was now despised by everyone for being taken advantage of by Ding Hui. If Ji Xinhe added fuel to the fire, Lady Ding would really be forced out of the village.

She couldn’t have imagined that this cunning child could turn the tables so drastically. Not only did the marriage trap she had calculated so carefully failed, but she also suffered a great blow herself. The thought of it made Lady Ding feel like vomiting blood.

Once inside, Ji Dong still seemed puzzled, "What the hell is going on with Lady Ding and Ding Hui?"

Ji Xinhe didn’t plan to keep it a secret from them and explained everything.

Ji Dong slapped the table in anger, "This is absolutely outrageous! Lady Ding is a wicked woman. I can’t believe she could do such a thing."

Ji Xinhe shook her head, "Luckily, I turned the tables on them. Now, not only are they unable to take advantage of their so-called marriage to the Ding Family, but anyone from the Ding Family is on the village’s blacklist. They’re no longer a threat to me. Now that Lady Ding is in this state, I feel a bit relieved. All we need to do now is wait for our new house to be built, move out, and never deal with them again."

Recalling the sorry state Lady Ding was in today, Ji Dong couldn’t help but feel satisfied, "Serves her right!"

Ji XinHe scoffed, "Now she can’t even raise her head in the village, let alone dare to provoke me again. After all, I’m holding onto her ’secret’. If she makes me angry, I won’t hesitate to corner her!"

Ji Dong sighed lightly, "Why didn’t you tell me about such a big matter? Don’t forget, you have a big brother. Though I’m not very capable, I can at least ensure the safety of my younger siblings."

Ji Xinhe smiled, "It’s okay, aren’t I just fine?"

She then wondered aloud "But where did Mu Chu go today? Such a big thing happened, and he didn’t show his face once."

At the mention of Mu Chu, Ji Xinhe’s heart trembled. Remembering how she couldn’t resist his seduction earlier, her face flushed.

This guy! He clearly knew she was drugged but still deliberately seduced her. If he really wanted to help her detoxify, she could have understood. But, she knew in her clouded state he’d fed her a pill, sobering her up. He had the antidote from the start, but deliberately didn’t give it to her!

As Ji Xinhe thought about it, she couldn’t help but grit her teeth, "Who cares where he is!"

Ji Dong looked startled. With such a fierce tone, could it be that they had quarreled?

——

After Ding Hui was driven out, the Ding Family also caused a scene. But, they were chased away by the villagers. All through this, Lady Ding didn’t dare to show her face. She was involved in an affair and other disgraceful things – even she couldn’t stand the humiliation.

The Ding Family’s fuss was in vain. The key issue was Ding Hui’s misconduct in the village. They didn’t have the moral high ground and the villagers drove them out. The villagers from their own village didn’t bother to help them. Everyone felt disgraced. After being chased away once, the Ding Family didn’t dare to cause a scene again.

As the scandal subsided, apart from the gossip about Lady Ding’s "affairs", there was nothing else left.

With the year-end approaching, Ji Xinhe temporarily pushed her tasks aside to prepare for a visit to the town to buy New Year’s goods.

"Sister, can you take me with you to buy New Year’s goods?" Little Bei came over happily as soon as he heard Ji Xinhe was going to buy New Year’s goods.

Ji Xinhe smiled and tousled his hair, "Of course, Xiao Bei is going to help sister buy things."

While talking, she led Xiao Bei out.

As soon as they reached the courtyard gate, they saw Marquis Mu already sitting in the bullock cart, waiting for them.

Ji Xinhe huffed in annoyance, turning to walk around him. She was still angry about last time and had been ignoring him for several days.

Xiao Bei quickly held on to Ji Xinhe’s clothes and pleaded, "Sister, I want to ride the bullock cart to town. It’s so tiring to walk. With the bullock cart, we can load up all the New Year’s goods, can’t we?"

Ji Xinhe could tell that the boy had been won over by Marquis Mu. The usually lively child was now starting to act weak.

"Oh, my leg hurts, sister. Let’s go sit in the bullock cart. The bullock cart is steady, and we won’t get tired, right?" Xiao Bei made his way to the bullock cart and sat down obediently while waiting.

Ji Xinhe glared at Marquis Mu.

Marquis Mu lightly curled his lips, "Aren’t you coming up?"
