The wedding room was completed half a month ago, and everything afterward was arranged by Marquis Mu. Now the room was adorned with red silk ribbons. Even in the dark night, the entire room was enveloped in a festive atmosphere.
Bright lights illuminated the small residence, making it look cozy and warm. The wedding room was filled with red silk, red blankets, and red candles—this would be their future home. Marquis Mu stood in the room, half dazed but thrilled, as he stared at everything inside. He reached out to touch the red festive quilt.
Thinking of her showing up here tomorrow in a fiery red wedding dress made his long-silent heart flutter, involuntarily curling up the corners of his mouth.
Suddenly, there was a little noise outside. Marquis Mu frowned slightly and turned to go out.
Outside the room, a man in black was already waiting. When he saw Marquis Mu come out, he knelt down and saluted, "Greetings, Master."
"Have you found the whereabouts of Gongsun Yi?" Marquis Mu asked coldly.
"Not yet. We dispatched some fast horses to track him down in the Huainan area per your orders, but we seemed to have found no trace of him," the man admitted.
Marquis Mu frowned, "Gongsun Yi is incredibly cunning. Search more carefully and make sure to execute him as soon as possible. Otherwise, he will present endless trouble."
The man, who should have died on the execution ground a long time ago, had already become a problem simply by surviving. If Gongsun Yi caused any disruption, who knew how much more mess it would create, despite the extermination of his clan. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
"Yes, sir!"

Xin He found it incredibly difficult to fall asleep. She tossed and turned with the nervousness and anticipation of a girl about to get married. Unsure of what tomorrow would bring, she didn’t fall asleep until the middle of the night.
She was awakened before dawn.
Madam Quan was there to help her get ready, it was Aunt Guixiang. With both parents alive, a harmonious family, a loving relationship with her husband, and three children, she was considered a fully blessed woman. It was a good omen to have someone so well-off assist the bride in dressing up.
Aunt Guixiang carefully cleaned Xin He’s face and dressed her up meticulously. Looking at Xin He’s pretty face in the mirror, she couldn’t help but exclaim, "You would’ve caught more eyes if you cared about dressing up and weren’t so skinny, Xin He. Now that I see you all dolled up, I can’t help but wonder how many young men in the village will regret letting you go."
With eyes curved into crescents from smiling, Xin He replied, "What’s there to regret? even if I were ugly, I wouldn’t marry anyone else."
Aunt Guixiang chuckled, "Look at you, shameless girl. You are not even married yet."
Xiao Bei, who had gotten up early, was excitedly crowding around Xin He, blinking eagerly he said, "Big sister, you look really pretty when you dress up. Brother Mu Chu will definitely be stunned when he sees you!"
"What a sweet talker. I will give you a big red envelope later," Xin He teased, pinching Xiao Bei’s face.
Xiao Bei naturally took a leave from the academy to accompany his big sister on her wedding day.
"Great!" Xiao Bei cheered, "And then I’ll ask Brother Mu Chu for another one!"
"You little clever clogs," Xin He laughed.
Hong Qin and Xiao Cui arrived shortly, making the room livelier as the girls chatted and laughed.
It was indeed a noisy scene.
Xin He deliberately teased Xiao Cui, "I saw my brother rush out with a bag of silver yesterday, do you know why?"
Zheng Xiaocui’s face turned as red as the snap of a finger, and she quickly lowered her head, "I, I don’t know."
"Really? But why do I hear my brother say that he seemed to go to your house?" Xin He said playfully.
Hong Qin was alerted, "Why did big brother Ji bring silver to your house, Xiao Cui? Did your family lend him money?"
Zheng Xiaocui’s neck turned so red from embarrassment that she snapped at Xin He, "No, no."
"Then what was it?" Xin He blinked innocently.
Ji Dong entered the room and laughed, "Xin He, stop teasing Xiao Cui, she’s shy."
Xin He huffed, "Ah, it’s true what they say about forgetting your siblings after one gets married. I haven’t even gotten married yet, and big brother is already siding against me."
Ji Dong smiled helplessly, "Who would dare bully you? Marquis Mu’s bridal sedan will be here soon and you’re still talking about not being married."
Hong Qin finally understood and exclaimed in amazement, "Could it be that big brother Ji and Xiao Cui...."
"Silly girl, you are just realizing it now?" Xin He laughed.
Zheng Xiaocui couldn’t keep it in any longer and stomped her foot, "I won’t talk to you!" Then she ran out of the room while blushing.
Xin He burst into laughter, "Big brother, you better go after her. Xiao Cui will be mad at you if you don’t."
Ji Dong still shook his head in disappointment, but then immediately ran out of the room.
Slapping herself on the head, Hong Qin admitted, "I can’t believe I didn’t pick up on any signs..."
Aunt Guixiang chuckled knowingly, "That’s because you’re young. Us seasoned folks see these things clearly. Just one glance and I can tell who in the village has a crush on others."
"Really?" Hong Qin asked in amazement.
Aunt Guixiang continued combing Xin He’s hair and laughed, "Of course, after all, we’ve lived longer than you. How could you understand? Look at Xin He. I knew she had found the right person just by the way Mu Chu looked at her. Don’t underestimate my keen observation, it’s usually accurate!"
Xin He, lowering her head with a smile, said, "I hope to be as fortunate as you predict."
"You don’t need my blessing, Xin He. A smart girl like you will see things clearly. You wouldn’t have agreed to marry him if you weren’t sure. Enjoy your married life; the days ahead are long," Aunt Guixiang advised laughingly.
The days ahead are long indeed.
It was a simple and straightforward phrase, yet it sounded like the best blessing to Xin He at that moment. They had a long life to live together. The thought of spending the rest of her life with him brought her great joy.
——
The wedding room was really bustling. Almost all the villagers had come to be guests. The wives and sisters-in-law who were helping out greeted the guests with festive spirits.
Inside the house, Marquis Mu was in a bright red festive suit, which made him look exceptionally handsome. He had always preferred dark clothes and had never worn such vibrant colors before. But whether because of his good mood or that the outfit was genuinely nice, he found his tall figure reflected in the mirror to be rather pleasing.
Smiling, Marquis Mu turned to an attendant standing nearby and asked, "What time is it?"
