Chapter 178: Getting Ruthless

Ji Xinhe casually wiped the drop of blood on her hand with a handkerchief, her heart inexplicably panicking, as if she was unsettled.

Aunt Guixiang, flustered, rushed over to inspect her injury. She didn’t seem to feel any pain, her face just looked pale.

"Look at your face, why does it look so bad?" Aunt Guixiang asked.

Ji Xinhe seemed a bit dazed and shook her head, "I..I am not so sure..."

Just that her heart, pounding madly, filled her with unease.

"It’s alright, it’s just a minor injury. It shouldn’t be a problem. Just don’t worry," Aunt Guixiang comforted, noticing Ji Xinhe’s bad mood.

Then, she looked outside and frowned, "Why hasn’t the wedding palanquin arrived yet?"

Xiao Bei sprang out and said, "I’ll go outside to check! Maybe it’s on the way."

"Go and have a look," Aunt Guixiang concurred.

Although the bridal chamber and this house belong to the same village, the location for the new house was selected to be as far from Ji Dashan’s family as possible. So it’s quite a distance away, and it’s a good idea to send Xiao Bei to check.

Xiao Bei immediately ran out.

Aunt Guixiang simply stood by the door to watch.

Ji Xinhe sat there, her vision blocked by the red veil on her head. She lowered her head to look at her bare hands on her lap. The penetrated finger and her somewhat stunned heart.

"My goodness, the auspicious hour is almost over, why haven’t they arrived yet?" Aunt Guixiang became a bit anxious.

After a while, Xiao Bei ran back, and Aunt Guixiang quickly asked him, "What’s going on? Has the groom’s procession arrived?"

Xiao Bei, panting, shook his head incessantly, "No, I didn’t see the groom’s procession!"

"What... what’s going on? Someone, quickly go speed them up." Aunt Guixiang impatiently said.

Ji Dong hurriedly said, "I’ll go," and then he ran off.

But, he hadn’t run far when he saw several villagers running towards them hastily.

Aunt Guixiang quickly asked, "Hey, where’s the wedding procession? Why hasn’t it come?"

The villagers hurriedly said, "We don’t know. It was time to start the procession, but the groom disappeared. We searched the entire mansion inside and out, but we couldn’t find him. We’re not sure what’s going on, and came to inform you immediately."

"The groom is missing?!" Aunt Guixiang cried out. 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢

The sound that echoed in the courtyard stung Ji Xinhe’s ears, hurting her deeply. It was unknown whether the sting was in her ears or in her heart.

Ji Dong’s voice erupted, disbelief apparent, his action sloppy, "How... how could that be possible?"

Ji Xinhe touched her accelerating heartbeat, unable to sit any longer. She stood up, pulled off the bright red veil on her head, put on her wedding dress and walked out briskly, "Where did he go?"

The villagers suddenly saw this heavenly bride, they were so surprised that they didn’t react for a moment. After a good while, they hurriedly said, "We... we don’t know either. We can’t find him."

A sharp, sarcastic laugh cut through the air, "What else could it be? He ran away! After all, he doesn’t want to get married. Why ask why? If I were you, I would have hit my head and killed myself by now. I wouldn’t come out and embarrass myself!"

Lady Ding stood at the door, leaning on her waist, her laughter particularly grim. The pain from her wounded buttocks made it unbearable even to move in her sleep. Upon hearing the news of Mu Chu’s disappearance, she got out of bed to mock them.

Ji Xinhe’s eyes turned icy, emitting an intense chill. Her gaze, devoid of any patience, seemed to be looking at a dead object.

The look frightened Lady Ding, making her shiver, but she still managed to retort with a stiff voice, "Why are you glaring at me? It’s such a disgrace to have the groom disappear on the wedding day! You can’t even keep a man, and you don’t let others talk about it?"

Ji Dong, veins bulging in fury, said, "Shut up! Mu Chu has been extremely good to my sister, and he was eager to get married. How could he run away? There must be another reason!"

His words were directed at Lady Ding, but also at Ji Xinhe, fearing she might be overthinking.

Lady Ding gave a cold snort and jeered, "Another reason? What could be more important than a wedding? Had to leave today? If he didn’t run, he must be dead."

Ji Xinhe narrowed her eyes, a lethal intent flitting across, "Say that again?"

Lady Ding, resisting fear, shouted audaciously, "If he didn’t run away, he must be dead! You got what you-"

Before she could finish, Ji Xinhe had dashed forward and kicked her, sending her flying into the courtyard.

Lady Ding had already been beaten with fifty rods, almost costing her life, and any slight movement caused severe pain. Now, a kick from Ji Xinhe struck her chest and she felt as if her chest was about to shatter. The scream she intended to let out-

Came out too late. She was kicked away and fell to the ground, her injured buttocks hitting the ground first. The wounds started bleeding again from the impact. The pain made her break into a cold sweat and she cried out non-stop.

Ji Xinhe watched her coldly, walked to her side and squatted down. She pulled Lady Ding up by her collar, forcing her to look into her eyes. Her voice as frosty as her icy glare, "Say it again?"

Lady Ding gritted her teeth, cursing loudly, "Ji Xinhe, you little wench, you dare to publicly hit me, you’re unfilial, you-- Ah!"

Before she could finish, Ji Xinhe’s hand landed sharply across her cheek. The intensity of her icy gaze amplified, "Say it again?"

Lady Ding’s lips quivered, the slapped side of her face swollen in stark contrast to her pale complexion. The earlier arrogance in her eyes was gradually replaced by fear. "You, you..."

Today she truly discovered the ruthless side of this woman. She regretted provoking her at this time, thought she could hit her weak spot, but the consequence of crossing her line was devastating.

The pain in her body was nothing compared to the terrifying fear welling up within her.

Who could know that this beautiful woman in a wedding dress in front of her was a knife sharper than any other?

A cold smile dashed on the corner of Ji Xinhe’s lips, "I what?" Her eyes held a latent threat.

Lady Ding trembled like an aspen leaf, crying, "I was wrong, I was wrong, Xin He, please spare me. I was really wrong, Xin He, I won’t dare to do it again."
