"You’re a girl, new and unfamiliar to these parts, yet you insist on prying around for such information, be careful you don’t get sold off in the process." Xin He is finding this increasingly difficult to handle.
Wu Zhanggui has told her pretty much everything he knows. Now, she wants inside information about the Flower House, but how could he really know anything about that, given that he hasn’t paid much attention to it and he isn’t an insider of Flower House?
But if she wants to find out, she’d have to do it herself. Could it be, does she need to borrow a secret guard from Mu Houchu?
As Xin He’s hesitating, the usually quiet Xiao Chaihuo suddenly stands up and says, "I’ll go!"
Xin He laughs, patting his head, "Why is a little kid like you meddling in this?"
But Xiao Chaihuo insists, "That’s the point. Being a kid, I’m not conspicuous. I can easily sneak around without attracting much attention. I’m not afraid of being sold either!"
Xin He laughs aloud, "You even know about that?"
Xiao Chaihuo’s eyes are resolute, not wavering in the slightest, "I can do it!"
Xin He tilts her head, considering his insistence, deciding not to dampen his enthusiasm. It won’t hurt to let him try, "Well, if you want to go, then go. Be clever and behave if you get caught."
Xiao Chaihuo looks insulted, "I won’t get caught!"
Xin He raises an eyebrow, "Oh, didn’t I catch you last time at the princess’s mansion?"
Xiao Chaihuo’s face turns red, but he stubbornly states, "That was different..."
Xin He waves him off, laughing, "Alright, alright, I won’t tease you anymore. Go tonight. I’ll be expecting good news."
"Okay!"
Now that she’s decided and arranged the matter of the Flower House, and Wu Zhanggui promised to keep an eye on her mansion affairs, her day’s tasks are done.
Xin He isn’t busy right now, and wanders around the familiar streets again, which somehow feel even more comforting.
After a stroll, she visits Qinghe’s shop, checks on business there, then heads home.
She also needs to prepare a strategic plan for the Flower House. This is not a task to take lightly, she has to be conscientious.
By the time Xin He returns to the village, the news of her arrival has already spread to almost everyone.
But why is everyone looking at her strangely?
"Xin He, why didn’t you tell me when you came back? Xiao Cui told me about it just this morning. You probably forgot about me entirely!" Suddenly seeing Xin He, Hong Qin happily runs over, taking her hand and ringing her up to speed.
Xin He laughs, "When did I dare to forget you? I was just talking with my family till late last night. This morning, I had to run errands, send Xiao Bei to school, I’ve been very busy. I was just about to find you."
Hong Qin bursts into giggles, "So you did remember me."
Suddenly, her countenance changes, as she winks at Xin He, "Xin He, I heard you chased your husband for miles and finally got him back! Quite impressive!"
Xin He’s eyes widen, "What?"
"Don’t pretend! Did you think I won’t see through your ruse? We sisters have always shared everything. I even told you all about my fiancé, but you, you left so quietly, I was worried something happened to you. Only now, I find out that you were actually pursuing Mu Chu!" Hong Qin chuckles mischievously, her tone very suggestive.
"Who told you?" Xin He is stunned.
Her chasing him for miles? No, clearly, it’s the shameless jerk who chased her around unabashedly.
"Mu Chu, of course! Today the villagers heard of your return and many came to pay a visit. Mu Chu welcomed them. Although he’s mostly silent, everyone was so happy, they couldn’t help but ask an extra question. He was supposed to be a runaway groom, so how did he end up back here? Then..."
Xin He, infuriated, clenches her teeth, "Mu! Hou! Chu!"
Seems like Mu Houchu in the backyard can hear Xin He’s angry tone.
As expected, it didn’t take long before the furious "wildcat" stormed in.
Watching the shameless man lounging comfortably under the shade of a tree reading a book, Xin He is seething with rage.
"Mu Houchu! Who let you spread such rumors?! Since when did I become known for the Thousand-mile Husband Chase? You shameless bastard!" Xin He pounces on him, ready to give him a piece of her mind.
Mu Houchu smiles gently, effortlessly catching her wrist and pulling her into his arms as she lost her balance.
The wooden chair creaks under their weight as they both land on it together.
With one hand holding her wrists and the other holding her body, Mu Houchu blinks innocently, "What’s with the temper the moment you come back?"
Xin He grits her teeth, "Don’t play dumb with me! Hong Qin just told me that you told everyone I chased after you for miles!?"
Mu Houchu comes across even more innocent, "I didn’t."
As Xin He struggles to get up and punch him, Mu Houchu looks helplessly at her, "Well, many villagers visited today, although I’m not a big fan of guests. But they were here for you, so I couldn’t really tout them away. They were very noisy, all talking non-stop, and I lost my patience."
Xin He immediately imagines the scene of Mu Houchu being surrounded by gossiping women, enduring a level of fervor he’s never experienced before.
Suddenly, she finds this rather amusing.
This man, whom in the capital no one would dare approach within a meter, who made bystanders even afraid to breathe, who hates noise, could really put up with it?!
Even though this amuses Xin He, she manages to keep a straight face, pretending to be angry, "So you started rambling nonsense?"
"I didn’t say anything. It was them who were making suggestions. I was just nodding along, not paying much attention. Who knew they’d come up with such a story. I didn’t even hear it clearly at the time, how can you blame me?" Our "Little White Rabbit Mu" pleads pitifully.
Xin He softens a bit, "Great, now the whole village knows I jumped at the chance to marry you. What a privilege!"
Mu Houchu hastily tries to coax her, "How could that be a bad thing?"
Actually, when Mu Houchu says he didn’t hear clearly, he’s probably lying. He’s merely playing along with their assumptions to reach this desired outcome.
