Chapter 378: Not to Be Messed With

Could it be that this servant is planned to be elevated to a concubine in the future?

The other servants couldn’t help but lift their heads slightly to glance at the beautiful servant currently bestowed favor by the Madam.

However, if she were to be made a concubine, the Madam shouldn’t have handed over all the stewardship to her directly. Could the Madam be too timid?

But based on glimpses of her attitude and demeanor earlier, it didn’t seem that way.

The crowd was momentarily at a loss, uncertain how to interpret the situation.

With just a glance at their restless eyes, Xiaoyu knew what they were thinking. Her gaze turned cold, "All of you go and wait in the front courtyard."

"Yes." Everyone answered hurriedly, not daring to say more.

Xin He already followed Marquis Mu into the mansion and straight into the main courtyard. There were plenty of courtyards in this mansion to house people - one for her and Marquis Mu, another one for Xiao Bei, and even more spare ones for future use.

For now, she didn’t have the time to manage these details.

At this time, more than twenty servants were waiting obediently outside the front courtyard. The moment Xiaoyu arranged Xin He’s luggage properly, she was the last to arrive.

She had intentionally kept them waiting. These newly purchased servants might appear timid on the outside, but their inner thoughts remained unknown. Xin He asked her to train them properly, so she couldn’t treat this task lightly.

If the training wasn’t up to par, it could lead the servants to slack off, belittle the master, or even harbor ill intentions. Only by demonstrating a balance of kindness and strictness, could she ensure the servants truly comply.

Xiaoyu had kept them waiting for almost half an hour.

Standing in the front courtyard, they initially waited respectfully. However, as time went on, restlessness began to set in.

"What is Miss Xiaoyu doing? She left us waiting here and vanished somewhere. Is she trying to show off her power on behalf of the master?" Someone couldn’t help but whisper.

"Show off what master’s authority? She is just a servant. Madam hasn’t said anything. I think she is just trying to make us look bad on purpose."

"Who knows? By one look you can tell she is Madam’s favorite. It’s safer to be cautious."

Standing off to the side, Xiaoyu quietly observed for a while and mentally noted the restless individuals. Then she stepped forward, "Sorry for the wait. The Madam has instructed me to make arrangements for all of you."

Everyone answered immediately, "Yes!"

"Our Madam isn’t your average woman and doesn’t limit herself to the inner courtyard. Moreover, there is only one mistress in this household, our Madam. So she has handed over the management of the household to me, essentially making me a steward. But that’s only because she doesn’t have the spare time for it. You’d all do well to remember that, and not deliberately misconstrue it or play petty tricks. Our Madam doesn’t have the best temper, so if you provoke trouble and upset her, don’t say I didn’t warn you."

After Xiaoyu’s words, everyone shivered, quickly agreeing.

Only then did Xiaoyu continue, "Very well, today we start assigning tasks. You, you, you, and you."

Xiaoyu casually pointed at a few people, who immediately stood up with mixed feelings of joy and fear, waiting nervously for Xiaoyu’s further instructions.

Xiaoyu then said, "From now on, you are responsible for the minor tasks in the outer courtyard."

Their faces instantly fell.

Xiaoyu coldly watched them, "Do you know why?"

"We don’t know!" Fearful, they knelt on the ground.

Xiaoyu darkly warned, "Just now, I made you wait for half an hour, yet you all grew impatient. Evidently, you need further training. This lack of discipline is unacceptable; it’s best to start your learning as the lowest-ranking servants. This will prevent you from becoming arrogant in the future."

Everyone’s eyes widened in shock, a cold sweat poured down their backs. So, the waiting was actually a test?!

Xiaoyu glanced at them coldly and said without further ado, "Enough. The rest of you, follow me to the inner courtyard."

"Yes." The remaining servants couldn’t help sighing in relief, grateful they had kept their patience and didn’t mess up. They silently vowed never to make any mistakes.

After school, Xiao Bei came straight back to the new mansion. The large and beautiful mansion delighted him so much that he forgot to do his homework, running excitedly around with Xiao Chaihu.

Upon hearing about this, Xin He helplessly shook her head, "Let him be. He’s becoming more childlike day by day."

Shulan poured a cup of tea for Xin He, smiling, "In the past, madam always said that Young Master Ji was withdrawn because he had a tough childhood. Now, seeing him become livelier brings joy. That’s a good thing."

Watching Xiao Bei and Xiao Chaihu gleefully play outside, Xin He couldn’t help but laugh, "It’s as if he is making up for past losses. Seeing him so happy playing makes me happier than seeing him studying hard. He’s been pitiful for so long; I just can’t bring myself to be harsh with him. As long as it doesn’t break any rules, I’ll let him decide how much he wants to study."

Even if he was indulging in play, it didn’t matter.

Shulan laughed, "With such a good sister, Young Master Ji must have accumulated luck over several lifetimes. Many people would be envious. Madam takes care ofYoung Master Ji wholeheartedly; he is clearly sensible."

Xin He laughed and said, "No matter how envious others are, I will only spoil him."

"Only one person? Maybe after Madam gives birth to a little master, will there not be more to spoil?" Shulan posed.

Xin He’s face turned slightly red, she laughed and scolded, "You silly girl, when did you learn to tease me about this?"

Shulan earnestly said, "It’s not a joke. Madam and the master have been married for a long time now, should there not be some indications? Once the future little master or mistress is born, won’t Madam have more to love?"

Xin He’s lips curved slightly upwards into a small smile. She laughed softly, lowered her head, and considered the thought of a child. If a child was in their future, she would love him or her to the bone, just like Xiao Bei.

Xin He got up and slowly walked to the entrance. Looking up at their new mansion, a sense of peace and hope arose in her heart. With flower arrangements pending and settling into her new home, seeing Xiao Bei and Xiao Chaihu frolicking in the courtyard seems like a peaceful day full of hope in the future, something she hadn’t had for a long time.
