Chapter 403: Individual Thoughts

The sound of Sun Yaowen’s voice resonated, causing everyone in the room to turn and look at him with wide-eyed astonishment.

Some who had regained their senses quietly chuckled at Sun Yaowen’s presumptuousness.

After all, even Grandpa Sun couldn’t solve this mess, and what was Sun Yaowen? All he knew was indulging in eating, drinking, and gambling, ignorant about business affairs. Yet, he had the audacity to jump in now!

Even Sun Yaowen’s father was taken aback, repeatedly tugging at his son’s sleeve, and hissed at him in a low voice, "What are you doing?"

But Sun Yaowen was brimming with pride and confidence. He straightened up and said, "Grandpa has been working so hard due to the issues at the Yihong Courtyard, it’s only natural for me as a grandson to share his worries. I have a solution!"

Grandpa Sun might have many descendants, but that didn’t mean he was unaware of what kind of person his grandson, Sun Yaowen, was. Despite being known as a notorious wastrel among his peers, could he really relieve his grandfather’s worries?

Grandpa Sun’s face was stern: "This is not child’s play."

"Of course, I know this is not child’s play! You just rest assured and recuperate, I assure you I will find a solution for the Yihong Courtyard issue."

Grandpa Sun initially didn’t trust him, but seeing Sun Yaowen confidently asserting himself made him want to give him a chance out of desperation.

He hesitated for a moment before saying, "Everyone else can leave, Yaowen, stay."

Sun Yaowen’s eyes lit up. For the first time in his life, he felt valued! Being kept back in public by his grandfather was a clear indication of his grandfather’s high regard for him!

In the Sun family, this kind of acknowledgment often meant an elevated status and a considerably larger share of the inheritance in the future.

Everyone sneered inwardly and left the room.

Ji Xiulan uttered with a soft voice, "I am worried about your health, sir, may I stay and serve you tea?"

Don’t be fooled by Ji Xiulan’s previous aloof demeanor, Lady Ding had taught her from a young age how to seduce men. From the moment she planned to enter the Sun family as a concubine, she had unabashedly flaunted her craft. Her delicate and timid demeanor appealed to Grandpa Sun.

Whether it was the novelty or Ji Xiulan’s skillful seduction, she was indeed living comfortably in the Sun family, being one of the favored concubines.

Hearing Ji Xiulan’s frail voice, Grandpa Sun agreed to her request.

Ji Xiulan was feeling quite smug and proudly lifted her chin up, watching as the expressions of Grandpa Sun’s wife and other concubines darkened as they left.

Once the room was void of any unnecessary people, Grandpa Sun asked, "So what’s your plan to deal with Flemans House? We still don’t know who is truly behind Flemans House. Are you sure you’ll be able to take them on?"

Sun Yaowen raised his eyebrow, "Does it matter whether we know who is behind the scenes? Flemans House may seem superior now, but that may not last forever. Instead of targeting the unknown behind-the-scenes boss, why not start with their subordinates? Whatever means it takes, as long as Flemans House fails."

Grandpa Sun burst into laughter, "You’re right! But even if you start with the underlings..."

Sun Yaowen interrupted, "Rest assured, Grandpa. Since I have taken up the task today, I have my own plans in place. I just need some time, and I will deliver a satisfactory result."

Only then did Grandpa Sun finally soften his expression and nodded, "Then I’ll leave it to you. If you succeed, I’ll reward you with two estates in East City."

Sun Yaowen’s eyes shined, and he excitedly agreed to the task.

Ji Xiulan, who had been massaging Grandpa Sun, looked bewildered. She knew the kind of person Sun Yaowen was - a good-for-nothing. Why would he suddenly take responsibility for such a disaster? 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

When night fell, Grandpa Sun, who was still bedridden, had no energy to entertain any of the women. After Ji Xiulan helped him settle down for the night, she quietly skulked off to the back garden.

Ji Xiulan had just reached the back garden when she was suddenly pulled into an embrace. She did not resist but instead laughed softly, "Be careful, we might be caught!"

Sun Yaowen chuckled, "What’s there to be afraid of? The old man has gone to sleep, who else is there?"

Ji Xiulan gave a soft moan and seemed to be enjoying the moment, "What exactly are you up to? Taking over the mess of Yihong Courtyard? If it falls apart under your management, you’ll be the one in trouble!"

True, it’s a mess, but if I manage to turn things around, wouldn’t the rewards be great? He promised me two estates if I succeed. If the task is successful, I’ll ask for a stake in the Yihong Courtyard as well. Apart from that, I would have gained favor in his eyes, which will definitely benefit me when the inheritance is divided. Don’t you think I’m onto something?"

"You talk as if you can turn Yihong Courtyard around. Grandpa couldn’t solve the issues there. He even ended up on the verge of death due to the stress. And you have a solution?"

"Of course, why would I take up something without a guarantee? That old man won’t live long. If I don’t make a move now, I might end up with nothing when the property is divided!" Sun Yaowen sneered, and then pinched her chin, "Why? Don’t you trust me?"

Ji Xiulan giggled in a charmingly obsequious manner and closed in on him, "Why wouldn’t I trust you? I’m counting on you for the rest of my life."

Once Grandpa Sun dies, Ji Xiulan’s prospects would be bleak because she didn’t have a son. She may even get targeted by some cruel women in the family. That was why she decided to latch onto Sun Yaowen soon after she entered the Sun household.

Sun Yaowen smirked.

Ji Xiulan was not particularly beautiful, at most a median beauty, but she was considerate and knew how to pamper Sun Yaowen.

That was one of the reasons why Sun Yaowen was attracted to her.
