Xiaoyu, who had always spoken little, now looked a bit strange: "If that’s not the case, then is there another hidden story?"
Xin He’s expression became complicated: "It’s not necessarily a hidden story, but maybe another purpose."
For some unknown reason, this once clear and innocent youth now seemed to have become deeper and more inscrutable, making it nearly impossible for her to guess his intentions.
Xin He shook her head and said, "Forget it, this matter has nothing to do with us, so let’s not interfere."
Li Junyan and she had nothing to do with each other, and so did Duan Lan.
"Stay out of it? But this matter looks quite strange..." Shulan always spoke her simple thoughts.
Xiaoyu glared at her lightly and said, "Madam has said that this matter has nothing to do with us, why should we interfere? The second Miss of the Li family is not in sisterly affection with our wife, and Young Master Duan is even more clean. In the capital, our master will decide, why should you worry?"
Xiaoyu’s words hit the mark, and Shulan was dumbfounded: "That’s right, our master has so many covert forces in the capital, how could he not know about this marriage?"
Xiaoyu poked Shulan’s head with a mixture of amusement and annoyance: "You silly girl, can’t you use your head?"
As she spoke, she glanced carefully at Xin He, minding her emotional state.
Xin He smiled faintly: "How could he not know? I’m afraid he knew about it right away, but he just didn’t tell me."
"Why didn’t Master tell Madam?" Shulan asked cautiously.
"There’s so much going on in the capital, and I’ve never been involved with things there. Why should he feel compelled to tell me about this? He didn’t say anything because he wanted me to ignore Duan Lan as if he were a normal person," Xin He said with a laugh, shaking her head. She clearly understood Mu Houchu’s little thoughts.
This man was very domineering. Since he didn’t want to talk about Duan Lan, why should she bother? Duan Lan was, at most, a friend from her memories, and meant nothing compared to Mu Houchu.
Since he didn’t want Duan Lan’s topic to exist between them, there was no need for her to talk about it.
"Let’s pretend we don’t know about this matter and don’t bring it up in front of the master, lest he gets angry again." Xin He said.
When he got angry, he naturally wouldn’t do anything to her, but his subordinates would probably suffer from his cold anger and bullying.
"Yes," Shulan and Xiaoyu replied in unison.
"Oh, by the way, are you still keeping an eye on the Sun Family? Don’t let your guard down. Yihong Courtyard’s business has been dismal lately, and the Sun Family may make another move. Also, send more people to watch the other Flower Houses, pay attention to their moves, and it will be good for our Flower Houses," Xin He paused, and then asked about her new big plan, "Have I received any bids for the land I circled last time?"
"Madam, you mean that street..."
Xiaoyu didn’t finish her sentence when she heard the sound of "Master is back" coming from outside.
Xin He was stunned, and then she saw Mu Houchu entering from outside, dusty and weary. In the blink of an eye, he was already beside her, pulling her into his arms, his smile unable to be concealed: "Did you miss me?"
Xiaoyu and Shulan exchanged glances, and quietly retreated, apparently very familiar with such dog-slaughtering scenes.
Xin He had also grown thicker-skinned after being with him, curled up in his arms and muttered: "You didn’t come back for three days, how could I not miss you?"
Mu Houchu had been busy these few days, with lots of things happening in the prefecture city, and he hadn’t come home for three days in a row.
Mu Houchu picked her up sideways and placed her on his lap, pinching her little face as if to feel her: "Hmm, you didn’t lose weight, so you didn’t really miss me."
Xin He glared at him and pretended to push him away: "Next time you come back, give me some notice, and I’ll starve myself for a few days first."
Mu Houchu laughed, pinching her chin and kissing her tender lips, invading her for a long time before reluctantly letting go: "How can I bear it? I’ve heard that women are less likely to suffer if they’re a little fatter when giving birth."
Xin He’s heart jumped when she heard the word "child", and she covered the smile on her lips: "Are you going out again this time?"
"Won’t go out, will stay home with you. I’ve finished everything in the prefecture city, and from now on, they can come see me for any problems." Mu Houchu patted her head gently.
Xin He was satisfied, and hooked his neck, kissing him on the cheek: "That’s more like it."
"I heard that Huamanlou had an accident again as soon as I came back. My little wife is really amazing. Wherever she goes, she can cause a storm." Mu Houchu’s smile was filled with pride and indulgence.
"Humph! Of course!" Xin He snorted.
Mu Houchu’s smile deepened, and he took her to the bed. At a glance, Xin He knew what he wanted to do, and quickly pushed him away: "In a while, Xiao Bei will be back from school... Mmm." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"He can’t come in." After Mu Houchu said that, he pounced on her like a hungry wolf. He had been hungry for three days, and he couldn’t wait any longer.
Not until it was almost dark did Mu Houchu finally let her go. Xin He collapsed on the bed, the scent of love filling the room. She was so exhausted that she didn’t even want to move.
Mu Houchu simply wiped her body, then looked at the petite girl on the bed, his heart filled with tenderness. All his painstaking scheming and calculating was ultimately to protect such a little woman, wasn’t it?
No matter how hard things were outside, he would be satisfied just by coming home and seeing her sleep peacefully.
"Are you hungry?" Mu Houchu wiped her face and asked softly.
Xin He’s fan-like eyelashes fluttered and immediately opened her eyes, saying cautiously, "I am very full!"
Mu Houchu found her wary look amusing, as if she was afraid that he was deliberately baiting her and would bully her again.
Mu Houchu touched her flat stomach: "I’m asking if your stomach is hungry? You haven’t had dinner yet, so I’ll have the kitchen prepare something for you."
Xin He snorted lightly, then said, "Whatever you want."
Mu Houchu smiled, got up and went out, ordering outside: "Prepare a bowl of bird’s nest porridge."
After the response came from outside, Mu Houchu returned to the room.
Xin He was now lethargic, sprawled on the bed with her eyes closed, recuperating.
When Mu Houchu came back into the room, his eyes swept over the open box on her dresser. When he came closer, he saw a family letter laying quietly inside.
