Marquis Mu Houchu’s face was still tinged with a touch of discontent.
Xin He tasted the hint of jealousy. She chuckled and said somewhat irritated: "I have prepared a veil."
When she goes out, her hair is always coiffed, signaling to any bystander that she’s married. Who would dare to covet? This man was always overly cautious and anxious with his string of petty issues.
Mu Houchu glanced at her agile eyes and her slender neck exposed because of the updo. He spoke coldly: "Wear the veil hat too."
Xin He: "·······"
What was the point of her dressing up then?
Eventually, when she stepped out of the door, Xin He wore a large veil hat. The veil that hung down from the hat covered everything from her head to the neck, leaving only a semblance of her body visible.
Nonetheless, her slender and graceful figure was visible enough to tell she was a beauty.
A horse carriage awaited at the gate of the house. Before the attendant could bring a stool, Mu Houchu directly held her waist and easily got onto it.
The attendant was stunned. He hastily jumped onto the carriage, flicked the whip, and left.
Xin He was quite excited, removed her veil hat and clung to Mu Houchu’s arm saying: "This is our first outing. Even though I grew up in Lian’an Town, I don’t know any fun places here. We are going to Fan Lake today, which I’ve heard has beautiful scenery, and we can even go boating."
Mu Houchu, looking at her joyful expression, softened his smile a bit, "If you like it, we can go out more often."
He also felt a bit guilty, as he rarely took such idle breaks due to his circumstances. Plus, he was naturally introverted, never had a woman in his life before, and didn’t know exactly what she needed and what would make her happy.
Thinking about it, he had never taken her out for fun.
Duan Lan, on the other hand, seemed to know her well.
Upon this thought, Mu Houchu felt somewhat stifled.
"In the future, I’ll take you wherever you want to go," Mu Houchu promised while stroking her face.
Xin He responded gleefully: "Being with you, it doesn’t matter wherever we go."
Only then did Mu Houchu laugh: "Really?"
His face showed a faint color of triumph. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖
"Yes," Xin He confirmed with a smile.
"Xin He, I have never been with other women before, or even much with people, I don’t really understand how to pamper a woman. If there is anything you don’t like about me, just tell me, I will change. Okay?" Mu Houchu uncharacteristically spoke to her seriously.
Xin He was stunned for a moment before scratching her head and saying, "I don’t think there’s anything bad."
Mu Houchu couldn’t help but laugh helplessly. His wife was always satisfied, no matter the situation. She was perturbed neither by his concealment of Duan Lan’s situation nor his failure to take her out for fun. In fact, she seemed to enjoy their one outing as if she were a child.
Her only concern was to help him. Her ambitious business plans were all part of her support structure for him.
The emotions she invested in their relationship were never lesser.
Everyone in the capital had been envious of her luck when they got married. However, only he knew that it was his lifetime worth of luck that helped him marry her.
Mu Houchu sighed softly, pulling her into his arms, choosing to remain silent.
Xin He chuckled in his arms and said, "Don’t overthink things. I’ve never been with other men before, so I don’t know how to get along with my own husband either. That’s why I don’t expect much. Isn’t it good enough for us to be together, peacefully?"
She never demanded much.
Mu Houchu felt a surge of warmth in his heart, he smiled and said, "Hmm."
The trip to Fan Lake was long, requiring them to leave the city and head towards the countryside. Thus, the carriage ride took quite a while. After about half an hour, Xin He, cuddling in Mu Houchu’s arms, fell asleep due to the rocking of the carriage.
Mu Houchu looked at her peaceful sleeping face in his arms. He couldn’t resist stroking her face while whispering, "Xin He, I will treat you well, so incredibly well."
With all his abilities and everything he could give, he would treat her well.
Mu Houchu smiled faintly, his gaze soft and tender.
By the time they reached Fan Lake, it was late morning as they had set off early in the morning.
Xin He, still drowsy, was carried off the carriage by Mu Houchu. As she scanned the surrounding scenery, she was taken aback by the lush mountains and flowing water. It was indeed a breathtaking sight.
Surprisingly, despite being in the peak of summer, the place was refreshing with shade from trees and cool breezes, making it comfortable.
Xin He laughed: "I didn’t expect Lian’an Town to have such a splendid spot nearby. If I knew earlier, we would have come here to escape the summer heat."
Mu Houchu held her hand and said, "I happened to pass by here on my way back from the prefecture city and discovered this place. You can also go boating. Would you like to?"
"Hmm!" Xin He let him lead her forward.
Feeling the refreshing coolness, Xin He felt a sense of joy. The worries that had been weighing on her mind seemed to disappear without notice.
They only brought a servant to drive the carriage. The clever servant had arranged a small boat with a boatman by the lakeside long in advance.
Seeing the handsome couple approach, the boatman was momentarily stunned and immediately became more amicable, "Would the guests like to ride the boat?"
Mu Houchu nodded and helped Xin He onto the boat.
At this point, Fan Lake was vast with dimly visible boats on the water. It seemed they were not the only ones who found this wonderful place to have fun and enjoy the coolness of the summer.
Xin He was initially wearing the veil hat but removed it to get a clearer view of the scenery. After all, she was still wearing a veil. Otherwise, given Mu Houchu’s attractive looks, if she also removed her veil, they might become the talk of the town in little Lian’an Town by the next day.
Little did Xin He know that, in this beautiful place, she would encounter someone unpleasant.
From far away, Sun Yaowen saw the silhouette of a woman stepping onto a flatboat. His eyes nearly bulged out. He hastily asked a servant by his side, "Who is this young lady?"
